After a series of unrelated problems with my mouse (that had nothing to do with suse) I opened a process but I don't know what is it. It looks like a series of micro-post-its in the bottom of my desktop:Also, I checked the option to start a new session every time I start KDE, but this keeps appearing.
I get the follwing error, since I added a new S-ATA HDD to my server, if trying to open the Yast2 Partitioner:
Fehler Das Speichersubsystem wird durch eine unbekannte Anwendung gesperrt. Sie mssen diese Anwendung beenden, bevor Sie fortfahren knnen.
In Englist this means: Error The storagesubsystem is locked by an unknown application. You have to exit this application before you proceed. Here is the output of /var/log/Yast2/y2log:
It started when I wanted to dual boot Windows 7 and Opensuse off of my netbook (No DVD/CD drive) I tried install suse from an external hard drive and I botched it. I ended up erasing EVERYTHING off of my internal netbook hard drive. Windows and all.
Well, I had a couple of other computers so I studied up and eventually successfully installed OpenSUSE 11.2 on my external hard drive (11.3 being the one that I accidentally erased everything with, so kinda scared of it) and now I want to install openSUSE 11.2 on my internal netbook hard drive.
I can not use disks
I can not use a flash drive (For some reason, even if I make it bootable, it will not load up, this could be because it's actually a 8GB microSD card that is placed in a USB card reader.)
I can not use an external hard drive because that's what I'm running suse off of.
I've tried reading up on how to install suse on another drive off of the hard drive and I've gotten as far as whenever I boot up the netbook with the suse external hard drive connected it will ask to boot into OpenSUSE, the Fail Safe, or to install OpenSuse. When I select to install it it gives me the Error 18 Unknown File system.
I've tried formatting the internal hard drive twice. One as NTFS and again as EXT4. Neither seems to effect it other than when it's ext4 I can open it and it contains a Lost and Found folder.
When I interrupt the boot sequence by pressing c and going to the terminal and I use the root (hd +TAB command it tells me I have a hd0 and a hd1. The hd1 only has 1 partition which is ext4, which I'm assuming hd1 is the internal hard drive (I'm not sure how to check) and the hd0 is the external hard drive, which has three partitions. One with an unknown file system and two with ext4. When I try to enter the set up from the terminal it gives me the same error for any thing I put it (e.g. root (hd0,0) gives the same error as root (hd0,1), or root (hd0,2) and root (hd1,0)
Something like it cannot locate these two files I'm assuming it needs to boot. If anyone finds this relevant I'll retry it and post the files its missing.
I've been searching for awhile and can't find any threads that can solve my problem. From other threads, however, I have noticed that I should probably include my menu.lst, listed below
Code:
I have also ran the boot info script and received the RESULTS.txt file it generates. Listed below

Just installed fedora 14 and do not have a printer config app. Im not sure what packages should be installed. I just came back to linux after years off. Lots different from redhat 6.
every here and there i enter a page where a box pops up:Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page . After a number of steps I am at a page by Adobe, and I download what seems to be a generic package (Ubuntu will of course be there). But its instalation has never proved helpful. Still the same pop-up. Are there binaries for Slack or a way to get the sources?
Maybe someone can shed some light on this process that is running. It is using my CPU about 100% since there are 2 instances of it running with about 50% used by each.abc_sieve_2.10_i686-pc-linux-gnuI've never noticed it running before and don't think I've installed anything except updates.
I am using Gstreamer for creating one of my video streaming application. My application creates multimedia session and then stream around 200 video sessions (a very processor intensive job).In doing so, the no. of threads created is around 1500 and I have given around 1536 KB as my stack size for each of these threads. I have one Quadcore(intel Xeon) system of around 8 GB of RAM(64 bit) with RHEL 5.5(kernel - 2.6.18-92.el5). After few hours of testing I see that my overall memory(RAM) is eating up. I did checked the memory and I saw that my cache size is growing. So far so good, as I can understand that system does cache instead of leaving some RAM free. My problem comes, when I see that after almost 20-25 hours of testing, RAM is continuously being eaten up and maximum part of that is going into cache. If I leave the system for few more hours I see whole of my memory is consumed up and now my swap started getting used. If I check the cache now, I clearly see most of RAM is now in form of cache. I still didnt stop my application and allowed it run for few more hours and after sometime I see that process give segmentation fault while creating the pthread (create_pthread::unknown error 513).I also tried to observe the core file of application created in this way , but it doesnt show anything.
One thing I must mention that, in top I see almost constant values of resident memory, virtual memory and shared memory. There is no increase of memory usage here. So here I can assume that my application is not leaking the memory. I also observed that if I kill my application any time during this, the memory doesnt go into free pool. Anyone, here can give any pointer for this kind of behavior. Is it can be because of some kernel BUG which is not freeing the memory to application usage.
I've downloaded VideoLan (VLC) via Yast but the icon was placed in the audio folder. How do I move it to the video player folder? Also, where are additional icons stored? I run SuSE 11.2 (boxed version) with KDE.
As the thread states, I wonder why my RAM usage is about 56% without any application running. It turns to 58% while opening Firefox (with only one Tab/Page opened) and typing this post. Is there something wrong?
I'd like to know if there is a script that can check and see if an application has been closed (I don't know a great deal about bash programming).I'm running an organ programme with this script.

I have a lyric plugin enabled but when I ask for a song's lyric I can't see it because of the character map settings, here is an example:So the question is how can I run Rhythmbox with an specific charmap?
I have two computers running Ubuntu. I want to run the copy of Firefox that is on the remote machine. i connect to the remote in the usual way, "ssh -X fermi", which brings up a console on the remote machine, fermi. When I type "firefox", however, it starts the copy of firefox that is on the local machine. On the remote machine, "ps aux|grep firefox" confirms that firefox is not running there. Is there a way to force execution of the remote copy?Or, can I start a local copy of firefox using the remote bookmarks, preferences, etc?
Running the Lynx and I have set up Evolution to download my Gmail e-mails but now I have a question.
When Evolution is running I get the notifications when e-mail come in and the little envelope at the top becomes "lit" to indicate I have new mail. What I want to know is how can I get notified without having the application "open", still having the notifications etc. but without having the application window open (like when you "close" Rhythmbox but it is still running at the top even though the windows is closed)?

I want to launch qiv upon startup to show a series of photos in slideshow fashion (this will be the sole purpose of this particular laptop). I tried adding the command via System->Preferences->Startup Applications but this does not produce the desired result. In fact, the slide show doesn't even start.

I have come across an issue. We have an application for the biotechnology. The application is very heavy so we are trying to run it on cluster. We have four Dell workstation 7500. Each is having 32 GB RAM. But I am not getting the exact method of configuring cluster and node. I have tried Conga (Luci, Ricci). My questions are:1) Is it possible that our application can run on cluster ?2) If its possible then how shall i configure it?
I frequently access my home computer throughout the day in two ways: either locally, or remotely using nxserver/nxclient. As one user, I have two concurrent X-windows sessions running, possibly with different applications running in each. Is it possible to move a running application from one session to the other? That is, I want all the active windows related to the app to disappear from one desktop,

I need to run an application on a virtual desktop (let say desktop #2) and control it via another app running on the root desktop (desktop #1). That would include screen capture and mouse movements. So basically I capture the application window from desktop #2, scrape it and then click on buttons via my app on desktop #1. Anyway you got the idea. Now my big question is: is that doable ? and if so what's the best language to do it ?
