View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been unable to create any type of Windows VM in Xen. Every time it tells me that the processor(s) in the machine do not support full virtualization. After some research, I found several articles regarding the vmx setting in /proc/cpuinfo not showing up when the xen kernel is booted versus it showing up in the default kernel. Of course, I am not seeing the vmx extension in /proc/cpuinfo after I boot to the xen kernel. In the other posts where other people are in the same situation, the only resolution is to upgrade to the 2.6.16 xen kernel. I am already past that:

yet I am still unable to create any form of Windows VM. I have even seen that some people are able to create a partially virtualized Windows VM, and they report that the message is only a warning. However, I am unable to get past this message. I am running a Dell Optiplex 760 with an Intel Core 2 Duo E7300, and I have the VT-x setting enabled in the BIOS. Has anyone else seen this situation or have any thoughts on why this is happening?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just install QEMU and virtual machine manager to use virtualization, but virt-manager cannot run properly. I can create a VM, then mount CDROM ISO, startup. With Windows installation, it runs well until format partition step, after that it is disconected and exit with error related to VNC. I dont know why have this problem cause the packages that I installed is from Fedora repo and I think they have been tested.

I am trying to install a 11.3 virtual machine through Xen on a 11.3 installation. I am trying to install from the opensuse DVD. I get to this point, setting up everything (I can only do paravirtualization) Then the DVD spins for a little while and after that I am returned this error message "device 0 vif could not be connected opensuse....."

I had set up 4 virtual machines on centos 5.5 system where I directed the image locations to an external storage. I have lost the image files in the storage, but I have the image files that were copied from the virtual machine image location. I want to put up the same system on the same computer by copying these backup images. However, when I copy the image file to the same exact location and start the corresponding virtual machine I get "no bootable disk" error. When I increase the size of the image using "qemu-img" commands, I can get rid of this error, but get "error reading disk" error. Is there a way to overcome these problems, or is it not possible to restore a virtual machine by copying the machine image file under ..../xen/images?

I'm working on a script. fter it has installed and removed packages, I need to configure a ton of settings. In GNOME, I understand that those settings are kept in "/home/user/.gconf". Can I create a virtual machine and configure the system through the GUI to my liking and then dump all of the settings, so that I can load them on another machine? Is it as simple as copying the directories?

My hardware fully supports virtualization, and I'm running qemu as the hypervisor with Virtual Machine Manager as the GUI to manage and create VMs. Host hardware is a Dell PowerEdge T710, with a quad core Xenon processor and four 1TB disks in a raid 6 array.
Within the Virtual Machine Manager when trying to create a new VM, there is the option to not "allocate entire virtual disk now". What format is created when you "allocate entire virtual disk now" and when you don't?
I want to create a qcow2 image format, but it doesn't look like it is supported. Does anybody know how to create a VM with a qcow2 image format?
When you create a blank disk with "qemu-img create -f qcow2 disk.qcow2 3700G", it indeed does create a qcow2 image. However, Virtual Machine Manager is unable to read these images, claiming that it is 15 megs or so in size (which is what it actually occupies in host disk space until you try and put a VM into it).
i have fedora 11 installed on my laptop. i used to run another linux flavor through virtual machine manager but it is giving error. i have just tried it with different flavors. i tired it with BACKTRACK, UBUNTU AND MINT(live cd) each time it gives error. last time i tried with QEMU type connection as loca installation media(iso). with the MINT iso it gave the error.

When i try to create a virtual machine using the Windows 7 Enterprise Evaluation iso file, everything goes as planned untill i click on the start button. when i click on it i get two error messages. the first: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows 7. The virtual machine 'Windows 7' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1. Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908). The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. reinstall the kernel module by executing
'/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'
as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary. i have installed the DKMS package, but when i try to run the command stated in the error message, i get another error message in the terminal:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 3 boxes running opensuse-11.4 64 bit - Phenom-I 2.6 GHz, Intel Q9400 quad core 2.66 GHz and Intel SU7300 dual core 1.3 GHz (the last one is a laptop). When I run a KVM virtual machine and load it quite a lot all host OS freeze. Interestingly, the laptop works the longest (hours), while the fastest system with Q9400 freezes in max. 10 minutes. After a hard reboot there is nothing in /var/log/messages This bug is 100% reproducible. The guest OS is either RHEL or openSUSE. Is it a 11.4 bug or I am missing something? Have not tried the same hardware with RHEL-6.

When trying to reach my bank, I get the following error: Code: icedteanp plugin error: Failed to run /usr/lib64/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk/jre/bin/java. For more detail rerun "firefox -g" in a terminal window. Is there anything I can do to remediate ? Does IcedTea everything that Java does?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have OpenSuse 11.3 with VirtualBox on it, and with installed Oracle DB (on host OS).. but, sometimes this computer is disconnected, without it's gateway (adsl router)... and in that case, I cannot ping from virtual OS to host OS, or another virtual OS. I tried to use 'Host only' option within VirtualBox, but it doesn't work. What should I do? It seems that virtual machines requires some kind of gateway/router, but since machine is disconnected, it's not working.. how could I fix it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSince a few weeks I cannot open a console in vmware server 2.0.2 anymore. I don't know exactly when this started because I use vmware only occasionally (I have only 1 program (an old Ashlar DrawingBoard) which does not run properly in wine). VMware server and the console have been working before without problems, but now I get the message "Cannot connect virtual machine console." and it times out. This is on Opensuse 11.1 with VMware Server on the same pc, Firefox and the guest is Windows2000.
I have tried to disable all extensions in firefox 3.6, disabled the firewall, even created a new user (on the same pc) with a clean firefox, all without any result. However when I connect from a different computer which runs Internet Explorer under windowsXP, then I can get the console without problem.
So, somewhere there is something wrong between Firefox and VMware server.
