Feb 19, 2010after upgrading VirtualBox from 3.0.x to VirtualBox-OSE-3.1.2-1.fc12.x86_64 VBox fails to start any virtual machine with error: Failed to open/create the internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking-eth0' (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
When I run
sudo /etc/sysconfig/modules/VirtualBox-OSE.modules
I get
FATAL: Error inserting vboxnetflt (/lib/modules/2.6.31.12-174.2.19.fc12.x86_64/extra/VirtualBox-OSE/vboxnetflt.ko): Invalid module format
FATAL: Error inserting vboxnetadp (/lib/modules/2.6.31.12-174.2.19.fc12.x86_64/extra/VirtualBox-OSE/vboxnetadp.ko): Invalid module format
Kernel is (obviously) kernel-2.6.31.12-174.2.19.fc12.x86_64, but same thing happens with any installed kernel, IE kernel-rt-2.6.31.12-1.rt20.1.fc12.ccrma.x86_64
I reinstalled VBox and kmods got rebuilt but the problem persists.

May 13, 2010I recently installed VirtualBox 3.1.8 r61349 from the deb file virtualbox- .1_3.1.8-61349~Ubuntu~lucid_amd64.deb onto a recent clean install of Lucid Lynx on my HP p6210f (6144 MB RAM, AMD Athlon II X4 620 CPU). I then imported a friend's VM and tried to boot it. The VM consistently hangs with the following showing on the console (this is the last 3 lines, for context):
NetLabel: protocols = UNLABELED CIPSOv4
NetLabel: unlabeled traffic allowed by default
NET: Registered protocol family 2
I thought initially it was a problem with my friend's VM, so I decided to create a new VM from scratch, and boot from a CentOS-5.4-i386-DVD instead, which I have done before with previous versions of VirtualBox. When I do that, I'm able to select my installation method (so I know it's booting from the CentOS ISO), and then it hangs at exactly the same point. I couldn't find any other mention of this problem, but it's a pretty recent release of VirtualBox - I think just days old.
The VM: OS Type=RedHat (presumed 32-bit), 1 processor, 1024 MB RAM

Mar 10, 2009Running Fedora 10, I installed CentOS 5 in Virtualbox, but I can't ping the Virtual Machine...
From within CentOS, I can ping my laptop [known as the host?] but from the laptop I can't ping the CentOS Virtual Machine. I tried turning off the firewall on both too... CentOS was able to access the internet through my laptop right away without any configurations too.
Unless someone has an idea to resolve the above, I am also wondering about something else VirtualBox-related:
To see if it was possible to get around the above issue, I was going to install another CentOS virtual machine to see if I can get them to communicate both ways [if at all], but to do so, I think I have to install CentOS AGAIN on another allocated amount of hard disk space. This will take some time, so I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to just create a quick duplicate of the previous installation, if you wanted 2 different virtual installations of the same OS.
Fedora Installation :: Install F13 In Virtual Machine Within Virtualbox / But Its Not Working
Jun 28, 2010My laptop is running Linux Mint 9 and I am trying to install Fedora 13 in a virtual machine within Virtualbox. However, it's not working. It takes forever to get past the initial white/blue loading bar when it first boots and then it just goes white, so I can't see anything. I've already tried modifying the bootline parameter of the live CD to include noprobe, noacpi, noapic, nousb, and nofirewire. However, the result is the same. Am I missing something? Is it possible to install this?

So, i've rebuilded all VirtualBox dependencies with safe flags, then i've recompiled most of the sys-* packages also with safe flags. However VirtualBox still doesn't work.

May 23, 2011The only things i need out of it are: mars_nwe (Netware server under Linux) and a reverse telnet server (the dos machine is a bbs) I need the virtual server to support a very old dos machine, and while i COULD use samba for drive mapping, the VNC server I'm useing on the dos machine is a progrm called TINY which pretty much means i'm stuck useing the novell dos network stack.
how best to configure opensuse for this? I'm running the install off of the live-dvd which has quite a bit selected by default. I'm not in need of an x-server or a desktop manager, as this will be a set it up and forget about it once it works VM
OpenSUSE :: Cannot Create A New Virtual Machine In Xen
Jan 5, 2010I have been unable to create any type of Windows VM in Xen. Every time it tells me that the processor(s) in the machine do not support full virtualization. After some research, I found several articles regarding the vmx setting in /proc/cpuinfo not showing up when the xen kernel is booted versus it showing up in the default kernel. Of course, I am not seeing the vmx extension in /proc/cpuinfo after I boot to the xen kernel. In the other posts where other people are in the same situation, the only resolution is to upgrade to the 2.6.16 xen kernel. I am already past that:

yet I am still unable to create any form of Windows VM. I have even seen that some people are able to create a partially virtualized Windows VM, and they report that the message is only a warning. However, I am unable to get past this message. I am running a Dell Optiplex 760 with an Intel Core 2 Duo E7300, and I have the VT-x setting enabled in the BIOS. Has anyone else seen this situation or have any thoughts on why this is happening?

Apr 8, 2011I have 3 boxes running opensuse-11.4 64 bit - Phenom-I 2.6 GHz, Intel Q9400 quad core 2.66 GHz and Intel SU7300 dual core 1.3 GHz (the last one is a laptop). When I run a KVM virtual machine and load it quite a lot all host OS freeze. Interestingly, the laptop works the longest (hours), while the fastest system with Q9400 freezes in max. 10 minutes. After a hard reboot there is nothing in /var/log/messages This bug is 100% reproducible. The guest OS is either RHEL or openSUSE. Is it a 11.4 bug or I am missing something? Have not tried the same hardware with RHEL-6.

Aug 29, 2011I have OpenSuse 11.3 with VirtualBox on it, and with installed Oracle DB (on host OS).. but, sometimes this computer is disconnected, without it's gateway (adsl router)... and in that case, I cannot ping from virtual OS to host OS, or another virtual OS. I tried to use 'Host only' option within VirtualBox, but it doesn't work. What should I do? It seems that virtual machines requires some kind of gateway/router, but since machine is disconnected, it's not working.. how could I fix it?

Apr 27, 2011Until yesterday I was living the Linux dream. I had my computer working like a charm but I wanted more and I installed Virtualbox. It asked for some drivers and the kernel source for compiling them. After a reboot VB was working ok but sound was gone.
I've done some tests for solving the problem with no luck:
1. reinstalled all ALSA packages
2. reinstalled all pulseaudio packages
3. reisntalled all phonon packages
4. regenerated /etc/alsa-conf
5. rechecked all sound settings under YAST (volume), everything looks good but there is no sound
6. rechecked all sound settings under System preferences > Multimedia > phonon (gstreamer and xine are installed, gstreamer is the default engine)
7. executed /usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh [url]
8. tried $speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav and other commands from SDB:Audio troubleshooting - openSUSE with this output

OpenSUSE :: Vmware Server Cannot Connect Virtual Machine Console?
Jan 29, 2010Since a few weeks I cannot open a console in vmware server 2.0.2 anymore. I don't know exactly when this started because I use vmware only occasionally (I have only 1 program (an old Ashlar DrawingBoard) which does not run properly in wine). VMware server and the console have been working before without problems, but now I get the message "Cannot connect virtual machine console." and it times out. This is on Opensuse 11.1 with VMware Server on the same pc, Firefox and the guest is Windows2000.
I have tried to disable all extensions in firefox 3.6, disabled the firewall, even created a new user (on the same pc) with a clean firefox, all without any result. However when I connect from a different computer which runs Internet Explorer under windowsXP, then I can get the console without problem.
So, somewhere there is something wrong between Firefox and VMware server.
