OpenSUSE Network :: Disconnected Machine With Virtual Machines?

Aug 29, 2011

I have OpenSuse 11.3 with VirtualBox on it, and with installed Oracle DB (on host OS).. but, sometimes this computer is disconnected, without it's gateway (adsl router)... and in that case, I cannot ping from virtual OS to host OS, or another virtual OS. I tried to use 'Host only' option within VirtualBox, but it doesn't work. What should I do? It seems that virtual machines requires some kind of gateway/router, but since machine is disconnected, it's not working.. how could I fix it?

OpenSUSE Network :: Set Up 3 Virtual Machines On A Server

Dec 10, 2010

I only have one IP adress to access the server. But the server will host 3 web sites and I want them to be hosted in a vm. So, I want to setup 3 virtual machines to do it and use apache reverse proxy and vhosts to redirect the domain requested to the right vm. Now. I understand the concept, but I am not an expert to set that up....

I have an openSUSE 11.3 server. So, I have to set a virtual machine server, is that right? I have been told that I cannot do it with VMware server in oS 11.3. Can I use virtualbox for this? I only have to install virtual box? Is there a special version to install? Once the virtual machine server is install, is it trivial to create 3 vm? So, I want to know wich are the steps I have to take to set that up.

General :: DHCP Server Inside A Virtual Machine Can't See Other Machines

Jun 2, 2010

I setup a private network from virtual machines and one of the machines is the DHCP server for the group. I want to specify a next-server for the DHCP server but I'm having trouble connecting to any of the machines that I lease IPs to. I'm just trying to do a simple ping/ssh to 10.0.0.252 (a machine with a lease) but it doesn't seem to respond. I'm assuming I need to be able to connect to my next-server but maybe I'm wrong.

I've installed VirtualBox OSE and have a couple of guest OS setup. I am running Ubuntu 11.04 and VBOSE version 4.x (the most current). Now this installs the guest OS virtual harddrives to a folder in my home directory. How do I get other users on the same host machine access to those virtual machines within VB? Currently logging in as another user and going to Applications/Accessories/VirtualBox OSE ... the list of guest machines is empty save of course on my login.

Fedora Networking :: Isolated Network For Virtual Machines?

Oct 10, 2010

give a reference to the definition of 'isolated network' as used in the Virtual Machine Manager? I have virtual machines that I do not want to have access to the host, I thought 'isolated network' did this but the VM's can ping the host. If (probably) I am wrong, how can I create an network that can not see anything else but what is also on the same network? The host and the isolated network are 192. and 172. The virtual bridge is not connected (or so it says) to any physical device.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Gathering Network Usage Of Xen / Virtual Machines?

Jun 23, 2009

I've run into a problem gathering usage for my xen virtual systems. With my old model I used to gather all network usage via my cisco devices using the the counters for each port. Each system had it's own port on the switch, and I tracked network usage accordingly. Now that I'm using xen for virtual systems, and multiple vm's share the same switch port, i'm not exactly sure what my best option is for tracking usage.

I thought I may be able to setup vlans on the switch, and bind each vm to a different vlan using vconfig... but it seems like there has to be a better solution than that.

Networking :: Feasible / Desirable To Setup A Network Of Virtual Machines To Use As An Environment To Learn Networking?

Nov 18, 2010

I've been learning linux for a while now with half an eye on making a career out of it in future. One sizeable gap in my knowledge at the moment is networking. Is it feasible/desirable to set up a network of virtual machines to use as an environment to learn networking? My budget is non-existent so I was hoping to be able to get a basic understanding of the principles from installing a few desktops, a virtual gateway etc on VMware workstation on my laptop, and doing a lot of reading online.

Is this feasible, or will I just end up learning about virtual networks instead of real ones? Also how much power would be required, because my 3GB RAM lappy has just gone bang and all I have now is a (new) 1GB RAM lappy.

The problem over here is when i click on the icon and click on activate it won't happen. So, i have to unplug the hardware and then re-insert it to make it work again.I went through a site, there they have mentioned a work around that is to keep a ping command always running. I'm fine with that, but why do we need to remove the hardware n re-insert it to make it connect to the internet again

Ubuntu Networking :: Virtual Machine Not Listed In Network

Code:
sudo apt-get install install gnome-core gdm network-manager-gnome human-theme x11-xserver-utils tangerine-icon-theme gnome-themes-ubuntu ubuntu-artwork jockey-gtk gnome-utils firefox

I'm using the Ubuntu VM as my local http server. It is reachable via ip - so http://IP-ADDRESS works. I also use samba for shared folders... but ubuntu is not listed in my network. What means that i cannot access files from outside the vm. Do I have to install further packages, because "normal" ubuntu distributions are listed in my network connections. Samba packages are correctly installed.

Debian Configuration :: Use A Network Bridge To Connect Virtual Machine?

I'm attempting to use a network bridge to connect my virtual machine, like so:

[Code]...

The issue is that when I type the following command, I get the further following horrible error message that doesn't seem to really point me to anywhere and I can't seem to find any relevant information to my problem on the web:

root@darkstacks:~# qemu-system-i386 -hda test.img -m 128 -curses -net nic -net tap,ifname=tap0 warning: could not configure /dev/net/tun: no virtual network emulation

Does anyone have any idea what I need to do here? My processor does not have the vmx flag, as it's a 2.4GHz P4. I don't know if that might have something to do with it.

Fedora Hardware :: Use A Bridge So A KVM Virtual Machine Can Be Exposed Directly To The Network?

Jan 5, 2010

I'm having issues with my GigE Marvell NIC. The problems have started recently. Anytime I push network bandwidth over ~9MB/s, I loose all network connectivity. Stopping the network, rmmod'ing and modprobe'ing the sky2 module and then starting the network again does not resolve the issue (even though eth0 dissapears and then comes back). The only non-standard configuration (as far as desktops go) in my network is that I use a bridge so a KVM virtual machine can be exposed directly to the network. I'm currently testing the problem to see if it exists outside of the bridge.

OpenSUSE :: Cannot Create A New Virtual Machine In Xen

Jan 5, 2010

I have been unable to create any type of Windows VM in Xen. Every time it tells me that the processor(s) in the machine do not support full virtualization. After some research, I found several articles regarding the vmx setting in /proc/cpuinfo not showing up when the xen kernel is booted versus it showing up in the default kernel. Of course, I am not seeing the vmx extension in /proc/cpuinfo after I boot to the xen kernel. In the other posts where other people are in the same situation, the only resolution is to upgrade to the 2.6.16 xen kernel. I am already past that:

linux-vxke:~ # uname -r
2.6.31.8-0.1-xen

yet I am still unable to create any form of Windows VM. I have even seen that some people are able to create a partially virtualized Windows VM, and they report that the message is only a warning. However, I am unable to get past this message. I am running a Dell Optiplex 760 with an Intel Core 2 Duo E7300, and I have the VT-x setting enabled in the BIOS. Has anyone else seen this situation or have any thoughts on why this is happening?
