When I go to openSUSE Download Mirrors - Overview, after I click the "http" of the mirror I want, where do I click down to after that to get the proper url? It just keeps opening new folders, so what's the url I need to put in yast, say for the argonne national laboratory (usa) mirror?
View 2 RepliesAs I have had some problems using kpagager I've used file asociations to set yast as the default. When I download an rpm the yast icon bounces around for a while and then dies. I assume this means I need another set of yast launch instructions. Suppose I could download to a directory and set it as a repo but would rather just have it launch for rpms as it's quicker. 11.4 KDE 4.6.0
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter a fresh install of openSUSE-11.2 (yes, still 11.2) I noticed that the -desktop flavour of kernel is in use. All types of kernels are installed. Is there any easy way to change the kernel in use with yast? I would prefer -pae to get full use of RAM.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have just recently found I have a problem under SUSE 10.3. History, I had my PC, an IBM Power Centre box with 4g ram and 2 hard-drives (80gb and 1Tb) fail to reboot after a power drop. Got an error message about the 80gb H/D losing some information. I was able tofix the issues by using "fsck". The PC was able to restart after this, and seemed to be working well.
However in the last couple of days I noiticed that the time was incorrect, it seems the sync for time has switched to normal time too early. Right mouse click to adjust this would not bring up the "adjust time" window. ?Why, unknown. I then decided I would go through "YAST" to do my changes, but now I am unable to load "YAST". I can load it through a terminal window, but there must be some reason why it won't load the GUI? from the menu.? There could be other programs that are also not loading that I have not found.
Q- could something have been lost when I had the H/D reboot issue? And if so is there any way of restoring lost or coruputed OS files?
I have the 10.3 OS on DVD, which is how I installed it, and note that there is a recovey prompt, but need some advise on how to go about it. A total reinstall is not an option at this time until I can get a backup unit running.
Ive a little problem in xen guest machines. The hardware UTC time is grather than the insanity time (ntp doesnt works) and I cant change the date and time from yast. I can`t access the hwclock information (errno=19) unable to get /dev/rtc.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI did zypper dup to move from 11.3 to 11.4. Almost everything works fine. But when I try to add community repositories I get the 11.3 repositories, not the 11.4 repositories. So there must be a .conf or .rc file somewhere telling yast that we're on 11.3 when in fact we are on 11.4. How/where can I change that? And while we're at it, how do I load a Factory repository? They do not appear in the list of Community" repositories.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having a wireless issue (go figure) where I can't get to the internet, can get to my LAN just fine, but trying to ping anywhere on the net just gives me "network unavailable" message.One thing I've seen noted here time and again is people saying "Use Yast vs Network manager" when I go through the Yast Network Devices GUI it tells me it's using network manager, and I need to use ifup (if I want to use Yast), however I have no clue how to go about changing it from one to the other?
Currently I'm using hard-link to get all the updates and see if that will resolve my problems, but figured I'd learn how I'm supposed to switch it for the future.
As I have 15 repo's enabled in Yast it a bit tedious changing them in the package manager, is there an easier way to bulk change them? Something like doing a kfilereplace on the /etc/zypp/repos.d/ folder and changing all occurances of 11.3 to 11.4 (in all *repo, which are all the files in the folder). Will this work?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed openSUSE on my notebook with an usb drive using openSUSE 11.4 KDE LIVE iso. The installation process set the name to "linux-ygrl" which I don't really like. (I probably just missed the setting during the installation.). I tried to change it through YaST -> Network -> Hostnames and I set everything where needed to the new name and restarted but the changed weren't applied. I searched the web and found out about the /etc/HOSTNAME file which still contains "linux-ygrl". Now I could change it manually but I was wondering if there is a GUI for it? (I mean, openSUSE has for alsmost everything a GUI.

From yast > hardware > sound, I can see the (default) internal audio from the motherboard, and I can see the usb headset that I would like to be using as the default. View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I just switched from KDE to Gnome and after a successful install upon logout I went to the panel that allows one to choose an application (KDE, Gnome, Windowmaker etc).
Gnome worked like a dream.
"I don't remember installing any other applications," I says to myself "Why would they be listed there? I'll try booting into one of them."
At random I chose a new xWindow and hit enter... blackness.
So like any linux user I created /etc/sysconfig/desktop with DESKTOP="GNOME" and DISPLAYMANAGER="GNOME" parameters to force my hand back into Gnome.
I have found the way to do this for KDE 3.x.x but not for KDE 4. Konqueror is the default web browser which opens when you click a link, but I want to use FireFox instead. Where must I go for KDE4 to change the default web browser to something else?

I would like to change the default blue oxygen icon, I went to system settings (now is configure desktop), file association, select inode and directory, click on the icon and change it to the one I like. Click ok, reboot but the blue folder icon is also there, how can I change this icon to one I like better?

whenever I try to install something via yum, it automatically downloads stuff from mirror.cse.iitk.ac.in as shown above. However, i thinks there's some problem in that mirror because installation freezes after sometime and I have to start again. How do I change my mirror to another one, possibly nearest and fastest to me other than that?
PS: I use plugins axel and fastestmirror.
I want to change the default command line editor from vim to nano, so for example when I type "visudo", I want it to user nano. In Ubuntu this can be easily done by using "update-alternatives --config editor", but openUSE doesn't have an editor-option

I've made Chrome the default browser in KDE's "Configure Desktop>Default Applications", but html attachments in Thunderbird still open in Firefox.I've tried most of the fixes offered on this and other forums as well as those offered by Mozilla's various help files, but nothing works. Most suggestions refer to fixes for 1.x versions of Thunderbird and no longer can be used.I just checked another OpenSUSE 11.2 PC with the newer 3.04 version of T'bird and saw no solution there either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using OpenSUSE as a guest OS in VMware. Display settings are 1400x1050@60Hz but I want to change them for 1440x900. Using root account I go to Configure Desktop -> Display -> 1440x900. The first problem is that I can't choose 60Hz, only "Auto" or "0.0". I click Apply and the resolution changes, but if I reboot the computer or just logoff... resolution goes back to 1400x1050. My card and monitor properties: [URL]. Another strange thing is that if I click Ok on the Card and Monitor properties (changing from one resolution to another), I can choose to "Test" it, and xfine2 appears but... it ALWAYS says "1400x1050". View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd like to make Gnome Terminal always start using this command line: gnome-terminal --geometry=92x49+0+0 However, when I right-click the icon either in Start Menu Favorites or in Application Browser, there is no 'Properties' option where I can configure this. Nor does there appear to be any option in Gnome Terminal Profile Preferences (other than to run something other than the shell when starting Terminal). Anyone know how make this modification so Gnome Terminal will always start in the same size and position?

I'm mainly interested in changing the default print resolution and the pages-per-side layout setting I can change the settings for all KDE applications through [URL], but I can't seem to be able to find the respective dialog for Firefox / GTK applications.
Firefox itself doesn't seem to have a dialog for the printer default settings; I've looked into about:config but all the value names are rather confusing.
My system environment:

Printer: Brother MFC-7420
Where is preferred applications in the Gnome menu. I want to change the default Banshee to Totem.

I would like to change this default to:

I tried changing fstab, but umask and guid are not supported mount options for ext4. What can I do?
Note: I know I can do a chmod, but I don't want to do this again and again for every new file I create.
Recently, I upgraded 11.1 to 11.2. Everything seemed to go fine. However, for some reason the system boots with the debug kernel - 2.6.31.5-0.1-debug. According to Yast every kernel under the sun seems to be loaded on the system. Grub, however, gives two choices - one for the regular and one for the failsafe system. They both boot to the debug kernel.
How do I get this thing to load into the regular, as opposed to the debug, kernel?
Where is the location of file which holds information about open with dialog? I need to edit it to change default programs that open certain files?

I have desktop effects on and window shadows enabled. The main windows don't seem to follow this, nor does any taskbar pop-ups when you hover your mouse over them. I even set the shadow settings to high/annoying settings but I only see it on context/right-click menus.
I don't like the blue shadow because it is too light, but I can't seem to find where to change it. This seems to also apply to in-active windows as far as the size of the shadow but with a gray shadow instead. Still, if the desktop effects were effecting this, then the shadows I see should be large. Plus, desktop effects only give you one color choice with it just being darker on the active window. How to change this?
