I'm using Opensuse 11.3 with KDE 4.4.4. When using the task switcher, only programs open on the current desktop are visible. I think it would be handy to have the Launch Bar work in the same fashion.
Is it possible to have the Launch Bar only show programs open on the current desktop?
I am using nx client and I would like to ask your help. Is it possible when I connect from home to my work's computer (using nx client) to see the exactly same desktop-taskbar and open programs as I left them in my work computer.
Imagine that you are at work using your computer. You lock the keyboard and you go home(you didn't turn it off). You go home and you login to work's computer. What I want to see is the same if I was just unlocking works's computer. IS that possible and how?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been searching and searching for the way to make the taskbar just display the applications that are currently open on the current desktop. It's maddening to click thinking you'll pull up the terminal that's hiding beneath the browser and be whisked away to a different desktop.I'm running KDE 4.4.3 and FC13. I know there's got to be a simple option to have the taskbar only show what's there...I've changed it before in other distros and just can't seem to find a clear, obvious option for that this time around.

wmctrl -a program This will switch to the desktop where the program is open and make it the foremost window. However, instead of going to the desktop where the program is, I want to bring the program to the current desktop. There is also this command:
wmctrl -R program The documentation says that this will do what I want, but it just does the same thing as the former command.
I would like to ask you if you know a program that can show the current cpu's and gpu's temperatures.

To start apps during boot, I use two different methods: The .xinitrc file in /home/dan works fine under: "Add your own lines here..." Startup Applications in Gnome | System works well as well. Here, I can enter nautilus /dir and nautilus starts up just fine in that directory. But as I mentioned, I have yet to find a way to direct the program to run in a different desktop other than #1.

My normal windowing operations are fine. I have no problems running parallel kde desktop sessions (1 user, 1 root), switching back and forth with ease. I have been able to get vnc remote connections to work, but the only desktop environment I can get to run twm. When I try to start kde it fails with:
startkde: Starting up...
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib64/libkdeinit4_klauncher.so
kdeinit4: Communication error with launcher. Exiting!
Communication error with KInit.
startkde: Could not start ksmserver. Check your installation.
Which is weird because:

I have this in my .vnc xstartup:

I've read several related vnc threads. It appears to me I have a more general X11 setup failure, but at this point I'm lost.

I have a Nvidia GEforce 8400 GS card, and the drivers from the Nvidia repository. When I try to enable Desktop Effects, I'm told that "Desktop effects are not supported on your current hardware / configuration." Clicking no, something starts using up 90-100% CPU, I can't tell what the rogue process is, top only shows the gconf daemon using 10-11% CPU. I have to log off to end it. What's up with the card not being supported? I can't find a list, but I'm sure this is new enough to be included. Is there a way other than top to trace the rogue application? I've never seen anything like this before, top has always been reliable. I have Gnome 2.30 on openSUSE 11.3.

My system is openSUSE 11.3 64-bit with KDE 4.4.4
If it helps, I installed my system through the openSUSE 11.3 LiveCD.

i've iregulare situation here i use LXDE and when i use chromium (for ex)and download a jpg file and then open it it starts FIREFOX and then asks me to open it i want chromium (for ex) to open that file type directly with images viewer another example when i installed awn and made some favorite applications shortcut on it when i try to open those shortcuts it opens firefox again and ask me to download or open O_O how can i remove firefox from all this proccess ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed an application named Specto for monitoring websites and im trying to launch this on boot.i got XFCE4 and went into Application Autostart in the Session and Startup... and i cant seem to find out where to point Specto, is it in the /usr/share/applications or not cause i tried adding it from there and it wont launch on start... anyone got a rundown on this? trying to understand it but i just dont coming from windows. Not sure where applications are going at all and the file system is just a mess compared to windows so i have no control on what and where to look.Also Specto does not show up in task manager and in the Session tab of Sessions and Startup... why?

I don't know if it's KDE issue or another conflict.All programs seem to continue running smoothly, but none of the menus on windows will work, or anything in the task manager, or desktop itself. I've tried killing the task manager but it doesn't affect the issue. If I knew what process was causing this, I might be able to restart it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a 3 year old Seagate Freeagent 80Gb harddisk and after installing Opensuse 11.4 yesterday would like to copy my backup documents into the laptop. So I plugged in both power usb cables to the laptop and it seems to be detected by the OS, but being a newbie to linux I do not know how to read the contents of my drive which is formatted in NTFS. Is it because of the NTFS that's why the harddisk does not show up?

My wish is to launch some programs (chromium, pidgin and xchat on the first virtual desktop and the terminal, the file manager and geany on the second one). I also wish them to have the same size and place than they've had the last time I used them (just to keep them always at the same place). My researches haven't been successful for the moment cause the only idea I found was lxsession-edit which doesn't do exactly what I want..
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe problem is that KLauncher seems to periodically lose the ability to launch programs. Sometimes an error dialog pops up: "Error launching /usr/share/applications/kde4/ksysguard.desktop. Either KLauncher is not running anymore, or it failed to start the application." (I verified that KLauncher is in fact still running). Other times, the pointer icon bounces and the placeholder shows up in my task bar, but then it all goes away without any error.
There doesn't seem to be any pattern as to what's running when this happens, or how much memory is in use, or what I launch, or anything else. Sometimes, if I start closing apps that are already open, then the thing I tried to launch will start up. Other times, I have to actually log out and back in before I can get anything to start. Other than that, the desktop continues to behave normally. Nothing seems to be locked up or anything. It's very strange.

Ok For some reason I open my ports in security and firewall. I open ssh and other ports and port 7001 for example but when I go to check to see if they are open or try to connect to them. It shows that they are still closed. I am using - [URL] Also yes my ports are open on my router. I know my router works fine with opening ports because I have shoutcast setup on another computer with xp that is currently running. I am willing to pay for who can ever get this fixed for me...
I open the ports in graphical mode.
