OpenSUSE :: 11.3 X86_64 Compile - Not Recognized Configure: Error: /bin/sh ./config.sub X86_64-unknown-linux- Failed

Aug 3, 2010

Attempting to compile an application that is not located in any of the repos yet for 11.3 64 bit. I have downloaded the appropriate src and untarred it. However, when I attempt to run the ./configure command here is the error I receive. checking build system type... Invalid configuration `x86_64-unknown-linux-': machine `x86_64-unknown-linux' not recognized configure: error: /bin/sh ./config.sub x86_64-unknown-linux- failed

I have made sure that I have all kernel-headers packages installed and am unsure as how to proceed. I tried using the command "./configure --build=x86_64" and then receive an error stating that the "SYSTEM IS NOT SUPPORTED" and continued errors stating that gcc is not installed, eve though it is.

Fedora :: Glibc Conflict Between I686 And X86_64?

Dec 3, 2010

I have both glibc.i686 and glibc.x86_64 installed in Fedora 14 because I have programs that require both. Using a yum update gives me the following error: file /usr/share/doc/glibc-2.12.90/NEWS from install of glibc-2.12.90-19.i686 conflicts with file from package glibc-2.12.90-18.x86_64

What is the best way to work around this issue? Trying an "yum update glibc.x86_64" gives me the corresponding opposite error. Doing a "yum update glibc.i686 glibc.x86_64" gives a longer list of dependency conflicts with glibc-headers and glibc-common.

Fedora :: FC12 X86_64 Rpmfusion K3b-extras-nonfree Conflict?

Nov 25, 2010

I am trying to set up k3b. It complains about a missing mp3 decoder. Following this solution, I set up yum to use the livna repository and then found I actually needed the rpmfusion repo, so set that up as well. Now when I run "yum install k3b-extras-nonfree", I end up with a transaction error: Transaction Check Error: file /usr/lib64/libfaad.so.2.0.0 from install of faad2-libs-1:2.7-1.fc11.x86_64 conflicts with file from package libfaad2-1:2.7-16.fc12.x86_64

Any idea why the repo is trying to install faad2-libs x86_64 1:2.7-1.fc11 rpmfusion-free when all the other objects are correctly shown as fc12 and how do I get around this without breaking something which is already installed?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Suse 11.0 Nvidia Software Repository Not Working When The Updater Is Run And Gives An Error

Oct 23, 2010

Suse 11.0 nvidia software repository not working when the updater is run, and it gives an error message which indicates it must be out dated and no longer used. Here is the site in my repository for nvidia; [URL], I did try to add a new nvidia repository site with that Yast tool, but I could not get it to fully work. The new one I did find was as a ftp type, not [URL]. With this older Suse 11.0, and kernel 2.6.25.20-0.7-pae, then is it true that there may not be any more nvidia display driver updates available.? So then I should just remove that nvidia repository from the list, and be okay if the kernel does not update too much newer version, right ?

OpenSUSE :: 11.1 - Repository Signature Required Message In Updater

After booting up openSUSE 11.1 i586 this morning, I got a message I had never seen before:

So I said Yes. But then it wanted root access, which I declined to provide and canceled the thing, whatever it is. Now, of course, my updater is displaying the yellow triangle with the ! in the center. This is the creepiest thing I have encountered since starting to use openSUSE several years ago. Did this result from some kind of screwup by the folks of openSUSE?

OpenSUSE :: Reset The Online Updater After The App- Crashed During Update

Dec 17, 2010

I'm running 10.3, KDE, 32bit. I am working with a fresh install. The updater stated that I had updates , I accepted the updates. At this point the updater failed in some way. It did not become a zombi but stalled. I quit the updater. Now when I try and get online updates using the sys tray updater it sais none available. When I use yast online update it has some recommended updates but does not install them. I rebuilt the rpm data base and this did not help.

How can I "reset" the updater. I believe that it thinks that it did go thru the updates and therefor cant see that they still need attention.

OpenSUSE :: Gnome 3 64 Bit: Erroneous Update Via Software Updater?

May 22, 2011

My openSUSE 11.4 adventure continues apace, and is brilliant! However, recently the Gnome 3 Software Updater has begun to show me an update I cannot get and actually I don't think I need. It doesn't turn up when updating via YAST, which is fine, but sometimes the Software Updater is a handy thing, and I don't know why this should appear.

The update is xorg-X11-server - Mesa 4546 noarch. This seems to be for Radeon and RadeonHD cards, of which as an Nvidia user I have neither. Like I say when using YAST there's no sign of it, but it just turns up in the Gnome 3 Software Updater every day. If I try to install it it tells me there are failed dependency resolutions and it doesn't install it. Is there anything I can do to remove this unwanted update from the Gnome 3 updater?

Jan 8, 2011

I'm using openSUSE 11.3 with KDE 4.5.4. The updater applet works fine for me, however I think it only checks for updates from the update repo. I tried to modify this behaviour by right clicking the icon and checking "show available updates, when the backend provides it(for experts)" (translation from polish so it may not be 100% accurate) but the behaviour is the same, it only prompts me when there are updates available in the update repo but I would like it also to prompt me when there are updates available in the packman and KDE stable repo. Is it possible to force the updater applet to do this ?

Debian Configuration :: Kernel Installation Error - Conflict With PCI Bus

Oct 6, 2010

I got a new laptop the other day, repartitioned it and installed Lenny. The wireless did not work. From some searching, I decided that I have the 14e4:4727 broadcom chipset. The driver I need is partially supported by the 2.6.33 kernel. I installed squeeze and downloaded the 2.6.35-7 kernel from kernel.org Then compiled it with the debian 2.6.32 kernel config file. Once it was done I installed the kernel deb files, and restarted it.

Kernel 2.6.35.7 Compiled with commands
make oldconfid
make menuconfig
export CONCURRENCY_LEVEL=2
make-kpkg clean
fakeroot make-kpkg --append-to-version "-hermes" --revision "10-5-2010" --initrd kernel_image kernel_headers

[0.433831] PCI_root PNP0A03:00: address space collision : host bridge window [mem 0xafffffff-0xdfffffff] conflicts with PCI bus 000:00 [mem 0xd0000000-0xffffffff]
And it seems to hang until I manually hold the power button to shut it down.

Before I compiled my own kernel I tried to use the liquorix-2.6.35-amd64 kernel with the same result. Am I doing something incorrectly?

Computer: DELL Inspiron m5010
