Jan 8, 2011I'm using openSUSE 11.3 with KDE 4.5.4. The updater applet works fine for me, however I think it only checks for updates from the update repo. I tried to modify this behaviour by right clicking the icon and checking "show available updates, when the backend provides it(for experts)" (translation from polish so it may not be 100% accurate) but the behaviour is the same, it only prompts me when there are updates available in the update repo but I would like it also to prompt me when there are updates available in the packman and KDE stable repo. Is it possible to force the updater applet to do this ?

May 11, 2010My family uses a computer running Ubuntu 10.04. We each have a separate login. This computer connects to the internet via wifi.
A behaviour which I have noticed is as follows - the first user to log in gets the network manager applet icon. So they can control the network connection. Any other user that subsequently logs in does not.
Now this is a real pain in the butt as sometimes our wifi connection drops and I might have left my wife logged in and used the 'switch user' function to get access to my login. The only way I can access the applet is by switching back to her login.
Is there any way to make this appear in everyone's login's at the same time?
OpenSUSE :: Dummy Patch In Update Tray Applet?
Dec 9, 2009In my update tray applet I often get a notification saying an update for my system is available and when I click for details the only patch listed is dummy Patch. Anyone know what or why this is? It's happening on my 11.1 and 11.2 machines.

May 19, 2011OpenSuSE 11.4 --- 2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2011-04-25 21:48:33 +0200 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux So recently in the last couple of days my NetworkManager Icon has disappeared from the "System Tray" on the Taskbar, even after a reboot. I have tried doing: Alt+F2 then typing "nm-applet" and nothing happens. Also tried in the terminal typing "nm-applet" and I get:

An instance of nm-applet is already running. I am connected to the internet so I know it is working but how do I get the icon back? I would like to be able to switch between connection types (i.e. wlan0 or eth0 etc...) but can't do it without it (well easily anyway, probably could switch through the terminal but I would rather not). Also, on another note I remember earlier in the week reading a post that someone had the same problem, and they told him to Alt-F2 and type "nm-applet", which did work for me once but now it is not.
***And I do remember accidentally deleting something involving NetworkManager from the "Startup Applications" app. Can't remember exactly what it said but I do remember it had the word "-disable" at the end of the command. --> If anyone has NetworkManager icon in their system tray could you please look at your "Startup Applications" and tell me what the one for NetworkManager's command says?
OpenSUSE Network :: Skype Aborting On Launch - Tray Icon Will Pop Up For 1 Second And Then Just Disappear
May 27, 2011Wondering if any one else is having this problem lately under 11.4. My Skype does not want to launch any more. When I click to open Skype, the tray icon will pop up for 1 second and then just disappear. Have tried launching from command line to see if there are any messages, but it just says aborted when you try launch it.
I noticed this started happening randomly when I had the laptop in hibernate and then would resume, Skype would then just disappear and then I would just relaunch it and it would be find again.

Aug 21, 2010Whenever I check for updates, or download/install them, the openSUSE updater applet never shows the loading bar. The border showing the loading bars position is there but the loading bar never appears. It always sits at 0% but still successfully complete updating.

Aug 2, 2010I set up a friend's laptop with opensuse 11.3 yesterday and everything was working fine. He has been playing about with it today and now cannot connect to his wireless access point.
It was set up to automatically connect to the wireless network but now the wireless icon (bottom right hand corner of the screen) is shown as 'unmanaged'.

Aug 16, 2011I dont use Network Manager to connect, but the nm-applet wireless icon wont go out of the system tray. Ive tried to do it through the GUI by unchecking Network Manager in the startup applications: didnt work. I tried to do it by editing the .desktop files in /.config/autostart and /etc/xdg/autostart: didnt work. I deleted all the .desktop files: didnt work. I can get rid of it by killing nm-applet, but then it comes back next time I log in. Is there any way to get rid of this stupid thing outside of purging Network Manager?

Jan 16, 2010I am relatively new at Linux and am having some problems with an install of openSUSE 11.2. I installed 11.2 on my Thinkpad X31 dual boot with WinXP. It seems to work very well except the network. I looked up swerdna's instructions on setting network cards up. I used YaST to try and set the system up as described in swerdna's instructions. Everything looks fine my network card and wireless card show up in the overview settings screen and everything sets up fine. But when I exit YaST the network doest show up no icon in the system tray and it doesn't even try to connect.
I did go into hardware to see if it was identifying my hardware and my network card shows up as "Thinkpad R40" and the wireless shows up as Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b. As far as I know this is correct. I have tried three other distro's and this one has gotten the closest to working so far.

May 25, 2010I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on a laptop of mine, and also a desktop. On this laptop, it's a clean install and I'm having a weird issue with the panel on the top of thescreen.ometimes when I start up the computer and login, I get two noticeable quirks. Instead of having the wireless icon in the tray next to the volume, I have two volume controls next to each other.The one icon, that takes place of the wireless icon, is not functional.The other volume icon functions as normal.
The other quirk is that my power button, used for choosing to logout, shutdown,etc,isappears. Instead, it shows two of my username next to each other (one is the legitimate one that lets you set your away status and such). And in place of the power button, is another username menu, but it is cut off by the edge of the screen and doesn't function.Has anybody had this problem before? Is there some kind of package I can update or reinstall to try fixing this? Sometimes the power button will be fine, but the volume icon will still double up.

Apr 3, 2011I don't know but just one day after I restarted my ubuntu 10.10 pc. Probably after an update. Dropbox no longer shows up in the top panel. I also had a thing called googsystray, that no longer shows up either. I can see the process dropbox is running.

Jul 30, 2015I have a multi-platform QT4 application and I'm trying to make it run on Debian 7.x. In this app I'm creating 2 QSystemTrayIcon 's and when I run this application on Debian 7.8 with Gnome 3 disabled both tray icons show up nicely in the notification area in the top-right panel. However when I have Gnome 3 enabled nothing shows up in the top-right panel and the tray icon shows up in the (hidden) bottom panel, but the problem is only the first one of my 2 tray icons shows up - the other one is lost.
I'd like to ask, whether it is by design so, that on Gnome 3+Debian 7.8 there can be only one tray icon per application? Or is it some issue with Qt? I tried also Ubuntu 14.04 with Gnome 3 and there both tray icons showed up nicely in the top-right panel.

Jul 2, 2010I have done a fair bit of Googling first but with no success...I am using PS3Media server to stream audio, video etc to my PlayStation. It works very well indeed on the PS3 end, but I have a slight annoyance that is messing with the nice look and feel of my Ubuntu desktop: The PS3 Media Server icon seems to have a grey background, whereas my panels all have dark transparency, this makes it stand out a mile.Is there any way of altering this icon? I was looking in the ..../pms-linux-1.10.5 folder but couldn't find much there.
