The last 5 days or so ,when I start software manager or zypper to update/install/remove something it can't refresh the repositories. Is something wrong with the repos? or it's just my problem? I'm using openSUSE 11.4 KDE 64 bit

I am running Suse 11.1 64bit, with KDE, recently I received a pop up on my screen, "something about update problems", I used Yast 2 and selected online Update and it couldn't find updates for Nvidia and froze at that point. I dis-enabled that repository and refreshed all of the remaining Repositories individually and it seemed to work. I then went to the repositories listing and selected "Add" and selected "community" repositories and received the following: WARNING Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. What is my problem? How do I acquire the list of community repositories? I can live with out the Nvidia repository for now but would eventually like to get it back.

I receive an error, "Unable to download list of Repositories or no repositories defined."
in the /etc/YaST2/control.xml the external repository is:download.opensuse.org/YaST/Repos/openSUSE_111_Servers.xml
Like the subjects says everytime I try to install a program using synaptic it says the repositories are not available, even changing the repositories included in it doesn't work, fedora 14 gnome.

So I installed it on a laptop (Downloaded the 6 DVDs). Now, how do I add some repositories to Synaptic so I can update my software? Also, is there a list of repositories? So far, every time I want to install something I need to insert one of the DVDs.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just re-installed Ubuntu 10.04. -The installation went smoothly, completing in approximately 25-30 minutes. All of my hardware, including keyboard, mouse, monitor and network interface has been detected and works properly. I am currently using the machine to type this. I can browse the web using Mozilla Firefox. My network connection does not start and stop; the machine remains connected with no indication that there is a fault with the NIC, and so on. I am able to download files at 150-170kB/s as is normal for me with Firefox.
I have not yet installed a graphical user interface to configure the firewall. I have not in any way worked with any system files. I am using the same hardware that I have used for approximately one year before this with no incident. I first encountered this with my previous install at approximately 3:00 AM (local time,) when I manually started Update Manager and attempted to check for updates in the default repositories. I have not altered the repository list in either the previous install or this new install. The Update Manager is entirely default.
Upon checking for updates, the list of repositories hangs after I believe at least ten lists have been checked. All of the lists checked before this hangup read "0 B" in the downloaded section of the window. It appears that upon checking for updates, no actual data is transferred to my computer. Again, after going through several of the default repo lists, the entire process halts. A wait of approximately ten minutes still reads that the process has not continued. -During this time I am able to browse the web using Firefox, and the OS seems to be responsive and otherwise functional. There is not a slow response from the keyboard or mouse, there are also no graphics glitches. Again, this problem first occurred with my previous install of Ubuntu 10.04, which was up-to-date as of approximately midnight last night. I have reinstalled the OS and the problem persists. The symptoms of this problem are consistent between my previous install and the reinstall.
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 GNOME. Today I wanted to add a new repository. I tried to open the repositories manager (Software Sources) through Synaptic, but nothing happened. Then I tried to open it directly by directly clicking on the Software Sources program in the system menu, but still it wouldn't open.

What is the correct method of moving to the 11.4 repositories?
The package manager is scrambled in my Ubuntu 11.04. It started with the repositories list being scrambled with multiple entries. Now when the Package Manager is launched it just accesses the hard drive forever. I did give it a half an hour just in case so it clearly stuck in a loop of some kind.
What I'd like to know is: Is there some way to reset, clear, turn off or de-select the added Repositories list from the command line (terminal.) This seems to be the only way since the Package Manager gets stuck. Keep in mind that I'm only slightly competent with Linux and have no idea where the Debian Package Manager data is located or how it works. If I go poking around without at least some guidance I may make things worse.
The problem seems to be spreading. Got stuck again while saving this message. Turned off the system, rebooted to recovery mode and did a file system check. Okay for now. Switching to clean OS on other partition.
I'll check for answers there but it's only Ubuntu 10.04 and I'd very much prefer to have 11.04 working and not have an effectively dead partition and don't want to loose everything on it with a re-format and 2 day re-install process (no installation disk.)
From some time now whenever i start the Package Manager it hangs at the line "Loaded Plugins: refresh-packagekit" I don't know the reason as it doesn't throw up any errors. Even if i reset the terminal. nothing changes. if i force quit then when i start package manager again (in the same boot) it stops and gives the message that other application has yum lock as i cannot auto install any software

I'm using openSUSE 11.4 Tumbleweed with KDE 4.6. I started using emacs and I wound when I scroll, emacs gui does not refresh the screen properly, and the characters get messy.
Especially the first column (first chars in every lines) does not go away for a while when I scroll.
When I start yast2 it seems to hang at around 50% (the lower progress bar) while refreshing the repositories. It can sit there for a minute before moving on. Once yast2 has started and I add / remove repos the refresh happens very quickly. It's only when starting that it gets stuck.
This is something that really only started after I upgraded to 11.2. In 11.1 the progress bar would move cross quickly and you could see the various repos flashing up above the progress bar. I didn't bother with it too much but it's starting to annoy me now. It also sometimes just hangs there permanently and I have to abort it.
I've tried unconditionally updating the yast stuff but it hasn't helped. My network connection is fine and I have now problems or speed issues with browsing the repo urls from a browser.
When i install openSUSE 11.3, reboot the system, and then yast stay in automatic configuration. It take a long time to download some packages, and it seems that it has no response already. How would i skip this step?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed openSUSE last night thinking I'd give it a try after once using Ubuntu for a couple months and giving up on Windows completely. When I used Windows and Ubuntu I never had much trouble setting the resolution or refresh rates and ran my monitor at 1280x960 72Hz, openSUSE will let me select 1280x960, but the only refresh rate I can select is 60Hz...I've tried the default Nvidia driver that installed with the OS and I tried the one from the website, it's a Geforce FX 5200, is there some way to force the refresh rate to what I want it to be?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use kde and in it's control panel the only option it has is 50hz. I have an lcd with 1680x1050resolution, and 60hz max refresh rate. It has dvi input capability, but my video card does not so it's on vga. The current refresh rate is killing my eyes. Is there any other way of modifying it? Is there any change i can make in the xorg.conf? My graphic card is an integrated nvidia 7025.

I just installed ubuntu because the newer versions were not working for me. So I installed 7.10 and there is no repositories that are still up. Is there any repositories that I could add from the newer ones or other distro repositories.

i have a Compaq V1100 monitor, which is capable of 75Hz refresh rate (i`m sure, it works under windows) but it works only on 60Hz under linux.my video card is a hd4850 and i use the proprietary fglrx drivers.i tried opensuse 11.0, 11.1 (installed drivers manually, not from repository), and now i have a 11.2 (this time the drivers are from repository the fglrx-desktop version)i have tried editing xorg.conf, using modes generated by gtf (maybe i copid them to the wrong section, but i tried putting them to the monitor and the modes section), tried disabling RandR1.2, also tried setting the monitor to vesa with 75hz refresh rate, i still cant set the refresh rate to 75hz (amdcccle lists only 60hz)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've given it the old college try for a couple years, starting with openSUSE 11.1 without success. I'm up to 11.4 now with no change or relief. My openSUSE box with NVIDIA proprietary driver and the default refresh settings of 80KHz/75Hz, has an annoying beat frequency with... something, somewhere, causing an annoying ghostly flicker on my trusty 1280x1024 LCD display. I can run both openSUSE and Windows XP on this hardware and they both have the same annoying flicker at those settings. However, in Windows XP, all I have to do is select a 70Hz refresh, resulting in settings of 74.6KHz/70 Hz, and the annoying flicker is cured... for Windows only, of course. I have tried to change these settings in openSUSE to no affect. In 11.4, I find that the advice is to create modelines using CVT and edit xorg.conf, but despite rigid adherence to instructions, there's no change. The monitor continues to see refresh settings of 80KHz/75Hz and the annoying flicker persists.
I hate to rag on openSUSE since it does so many things well, but there's a number of adjustments I'd like to make, especially the vertical refresh, that simply won't change, even when following documented or testamented procedures. Concentrating on the vertical refresh for now, is there anything that really works?

I was able to add other repos and install applications and upgrades (new install Gnome 11.4 64 bit on friends laptop), and Packman and Video lan are the only repos I can't refresh, any ideas?
I am trying to install openSuse 11.2 from netinstall disk into a vmware virtual machine under vmware server 2 (free edition). The installation process starts ok, but later i receive a warning indicating that the opensuse repository can not be found. View 4 Replies View RelatedSome month ago I installed openSUSE 11.1. It worked not bad, but I wanted to get the newes release of Firefox. So I did an upgrade to 11.2. Yast2 refused to work with an error message: unknown option -s (or similar). The regular updates didn't work also. Then I decided to do a new installation. Now I'm having a new problem: Display settings (Anzeige-Einstellungen) reports: Monitor unknown (Monitor unbekannt).
Possible resolution settings are: 800 x 600; 640 x 480; 400 x 300; 320 x 240;
Possible refresh rates are: 60 Hz or 56 Hz @ 800 x 600
I need 1024 x 768 @ 76 Hz. In the previous installation it worked well. How I can teach openSUSE to run 1024 x 768 @ 76 Hz?
YAST2 Hardware information shows me in Monitor > Monitor > Resources > Resolution: High: 768; Vertical frequency: 76; Wide: 1024
The VGA controller is also correct shown in Display > 3d Blaster Savage 4
