I have written a script which builds a repository into a website document root and it seems to work OK apart from one little problem other servers which use that repository have set it to autorefresh, but they don't, I have to manually execute "zypper refs".how yast2 knows that a repository is out of date?
View 2 RepliesWhy does this happen? I am (this time) trying to install Atmel's gnu-avr toolchain. Atmel's web site gives the repository as http:www.atmel.no/avr32/suse/11.0/i586. I put that into YAST2's repository manager, and it comes back with "unable to create repository from URL..."
Why does this happen? It's hardly unique to the Atmel repository: in fact, it seems to be YAST's default behavior on ANYTHING other than the official SUSE repos.
Is there some way to fix this, or bypass it with some other installation tool, so I can get the software I need?
I am meeting some problems on my opensuse 11.2 system in the last week, I see an higher load on CPU and the system seems to swap a lot of time. Checking on dmesg I found that at boot time I have a lot of errors: I paste a little part of the full log at the end of this post
If I am not wrong I have found and installed an official opensuse 11.2 kernel update through zypper some days ago Moreover, actually I am not able to use yast package manager because it seems to crash during repositories refresh (or just after it)

Have loved using v11.0 of Opensuse for years, lately I have noticed over time 7 of my 11 repo's have stopped/failed...does this means Novell-community has/will stop supporting this version and I should move on to a higher version ??? There hasnt been any change in my linux box for years.

According of technical support of this repository yast is not able to handle HTTPS repository and as result yast going to point error of download failed. There are no other repository available than HTTPS.
It would be nice if someone have ideas about that? Is it really bug or is it have work around available? Idea was try with some other HTTPS repository for random software but i did not find any from the Internet.
I tried to add another repository to yast (Index of /repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_11.2) and when I was done, Yast gave me an error message and now no repositories show up.
The error is: "/etc/zypp/repos.d/_mozilla_openSUSE_11.2.repo:Line 2 is missing '=' sign"
How do I fix this? How do I get my repos back? I took a look in that directory and this is what is in it:

YaST2 -> Package -> All Packages -> Update if Newer Available that YaST would install the most current in the highest priority repository. Given the example data below, I thought package A, version 01, which is currently installed from repository abc, would be updated to version 02 from repository xyz.
How do you get YaST to update packages from the highest priority repository?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhat the heck do I do now? 2 times I've re-installed suse 11.2 and this is what I get every time it tries the first update. I just had a perfectly fine working version of 11.2 that was installed using the network install just 3 days ago but I messed up and couldn't access mySql. Today I blew it away thinking I'd just start over and now it doesn't work. I installed it exactly the same as 2 days ago, whats changed? How do I fix this? I can't access the software repository settings in yast, nothing happens when I try to start it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I create a user with Yast using ldap than at some later point delete that users ( also using Yast ) I cannot recreate a user of the same name until I have rebooted the machine, which seems a bit excessive ! Closing and reopening Yast doesn't work, it still thinks the users exists. Even though it doesn't appear in the Yast and if you look in the ldap browser it is gone. Is there something else that need restarting ( other than the whole box )

I have downloaded openSUSE-11.2-DVD-i586-iso and verified the file using MD5. I am currently running windows XP (SP1) on a Fujitsu Siemens V1000 laptop andI am trying to install linux from my hard drive and not from a DVD drive.
The path to the downloaded file on my windows partition is: e:/OpenSuse/openSUSE-11.2-DVD-i586.iso I have initialised installation and selected sda6 as the partition where the sourcefile is located. and when prompted for the directory, I typed " /OpenSuse/openSUSE-11.2DVD-i586.iso " The installations then proceeded through to "Initialising Package Manager" upon which I get the following message:
" Unable to create repository from url' iso:/? iso=openSUSE-11.2-DVD-i586.iso&url=hd:/OpenSuse?device=/dev/sda6"

There is an option to try again at which point an additional dialog box appears and I have the opportunity to change things. Other than that, the only option is to cancel and terminate the installation. I've tried the process around 3 times, but if I'm doing the same thing then not surprising I'm getting the same result.

I am trying to add a few additional repositories to SLES 11 64-bit but I can't seem to get them added. I am trying to add Index of /repositories/server:/database but I get the error "Unable to create repository from [URL]... Try again? So I browsed that repository and then tried to add Index of /repositories/server:/database/SLE_11 but still got the error message with this new URL listed instead. I tried just the 11.2 repository and it worked - Index of /distribution/11.2/repo/oss/suse.
How or what do I need to do in order to get Index of /repositories/server:/database added to my repository?

I feel ashamed for even asking this, since it seems like there's about 3 samba questions here every day. However after an hour of searching, I keep finding strange variants that aren't what I need.
My Goal: Create a single file share on an Ubuntu Server - share it via samba to Windows clients that are on a domain with active directory. It sure would be nice if AD authentication would work - so users don't have to type in a linux user/passsword each time they want to access the share.
In my adventures, I've found the following items (which may overlap)
1. Joining the server to a Windows Domain
2. Turning the server into a Windows Domain Controller
3. Authentication with LDAP (still not quite sure how/what this would do)
4. Stuff with Kerberos
5. Lots of people bickering about Samba 3/4 & how it's impossible to make Samba a PDC.
I'm not sure if I need to make the ubuntu server a domain controller or not...all I want to do is create a file share and share it on the domain...I don't need to make the ubuntu server a domain controller for that, right? Maybe just a member? Maybe nothing at all?
I guess if I want to authenticate stuff correctly (or forward authentication requests? Not sure), I probably need to join the ubuntu server to the domain...I think.
But let's say I do join it to the domain...then how to I create a file share that is authenticated via active directory rather than a local ubuntu server account? I see a dozen guides on joining the server to the domain, but nobody ever mentions sharing the folder over the domain.
The lines are also blurred between joining Ubuntu to the domain and making it a domain controller. What should I keep an eye out to avoid in these tutorials?
I get lost between the Kerberos/LDAP/Samba/WinBind etc...and I have a feeling I don't need all of these for something this simple.

1. How much space do we need?

I have a computer on my network that I want to use as a local repository for apt. I've got the set of Debian Lenny 5.04 CD's and would like to know how to put all of the packages from those CD's onto this computer and then use it as a local source for my Debian computers to get packages from. The CD's appear to hold all of the packages in the folder /pool if that helps at all.

I'm using openSUSE 11.4 Tumbleweed with KDE 4.6. I started using emacs and I wound when I scroll, emacs gui does not refresh the screen properly, and the characters get messy.
Especially the first column (first chars in every lines) does not go away for a while when I scroll.
