OpenSUSE :: Recently Installed Items Are Not Showing At Add To Panel Item List
Nov 27, 2010
Recently I have installed DockbarX and Cardapio. After installation they are supposed to be found in the Add to Panel items, but both of them are not there.I can run them directly without any problem. Is there anything else I should do manually? I have tried pkill gnome-panel to restart the panel as well.

Bizarrest thing after swapping in my HDD from an old laptop into a new one. My LXDE panel temperature display is showing "-273," AKA absolute zero in celcius. I've done a bit of googling for lxde temp sensor, and most of the discussions I saw referred to installing lm-sensors, which apparently I did not yet have, although on my old laptop the temperature was shown correctly. I believe the automatic sensor location is off and I need to give it the correct location manually. I am unsure of how to do that, and it makes sense that it's hardware specific. After installing lm-sensors, I saw that sensors-detect provides me with a list of the correct temp sensors in my computer, but I'm unsure how to save those results so the computer can use them.

I installed the xfce4-quicklauncher plugin from a tar file in Slackware 13.37. It is showing as installed in gslapt, but it is not showing in the xfce panel's "Add New Items" menu. (see attached images) I tried rebooting and a few google searches. What must I do to get the xfce4-quicklauncher plug-in to appear in the xfce panel's "add New Items" menu?

Is there something like GtkRecentManager that will give you a list of recently-used or most-used applications instead of files, or will GtkRecentManager give you apps too?

One of my objections is the "recently installed" list at the top of the menu (I use the CLASSIC one-column style as opposed to the box version with multiple "tabs"). I often install 5-10 or more applications at one time and do NOT want a long list of programs popping up. Is there any way to at least clear this list? Disabling it would be even better, if anyone can tell me how to do that.While I have other aesthetic complaints, I have seen at least partial solutions to some of my other ones but this one I haven't seen anywhere.I have read it only stays there for a few days, but it is still annoying to have that long list. Also, if I ever set a friend up with our favorite OS they would have a list of around 50 programs sitting there and that looks really cluttered.

I have my own declared types and I have to operate with lists of items. I wish to write a one macro, instead of using a function for each type. It's intended to be like this: Code: #define ____append_to_list(head,
item, type)
type* ptr;
for ( ptr = head; ptr->next != NULL; ptr = ptr->next )
[code].....

I was reading some code the other day and thought that I saw they were using the list.pop method to pop of more than one item at a time. Something like this.
Code:
l = [ 'a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e' ]
l.pop(0:3)
['a','b','c']
l
['d','e']
But of course when I looked at invoking the method, it only works for one item at a time. I'm working on a data structure where I'm parcing weather data that is 15 items long that are return in as data in a list that has 3,000 + items. I was wanting to pop off a lists of the 1st 15 items breaking them into chuncks (still trying to figure out how I'm going to store the associations as each day has 2-4 readings an hour for the past 72 hours, so I was wanting to group the days together but have each data point for each time).
I know I can just write a function (with some additional tweaking needed for neg starts to work on the right end):
Code:
def longpop (seq, length=1, start=0):
slice = seq[start:start+length]
del seq[start:start+length]
return slice
But with increasing data sizes, I was wondering if there was a faster built-in way of doing this (perhaps implemented under the hood written originally in C as an extention, for example).

I realise KPDF is quite old now but as this issue may recur when I move to a newer distro (well, newer than Hardy) with Okular I thought I'd better ask.I use Gnome, but prefer KPDF to evince when viewing PDF files. However, KPDF's "Open Recent" list behaves very oddly - there's no apparent way to clear it, and items which were on the list one day aren't on it another day (coinciding with old items reappearing on the list).
Is there any way to clear this list?Similarly, is there any way to clear the list of recently opened files in the "Location" drop-down box in File-Open? (which also seems to mysteriously lose list items inbetween reboots).

Using Ubuntu Lucid with Gnome desktop.I was just playing around trying to find a media player I liked and installed Bangarang via the Software Centre. This took an absolute age and now I realise why - it has basically installed the entire KDE environment and associated lib packages as well.I have found /var/ log/ dpkg.log shows what has been installed and of course I can wade through that to make a list of all the packages and uninstall them all via Synaptic. But that will take a long time to do.
Is there anyway to somehow automate rolling back any package changes since a certain time?I've checked the man for dpkg and I can't see any mention of anything like this.

about 6 months ago I installed Ubuntu because my Windows XP had been partially corrupted and was screwing up. One month ago I formated the drive XP was on and installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on it; I couldn't dual boot so I looked online, found EasyBCD 2.0, installed it, and from what I can tell, I need GRUB on my Ubuntu side to be able to boot it, before this I didn't even know what GRUB was.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.
I recently modified the nautilus to show the trash icon as it didn't come by default on the Desktop.
I have a problem because the trash keeps showing items in it. When I put my mouse over it it keeps saying "6 items", however, when I open the trash it is totally empty.
Code:
sudo find / -name "Trash"
And couldn't find anything that let me fix this.

Recently, I'm having a problem with items not appearing on my desktop (at least not right away) after just being saved there, forcing me to either find them in a Konqueror window (they do show up there) or do some other unusual thing to make the desktop notice them. They used to, and as far as I know, they always should. For instance, I just took two screenshots with Ksnapshot, and told it to save them on my desktop. It saved them, but they didn't show up on the desktop. When I noticed that, I opened the desktop folder in Konqueror, and mainly to see what would happen, tried to drag the screenshot files from the Konqueror window onto the desktop (copying the files onto themselves). That made the desktop notice the files--they appeared. But of course I shouldn't have had to do it. What could be wrong?

I reinstalled Natty yesterday and then installed Fedora on a separate partition.
I now havedouble the menu items in GRUB2 for both of these.
I ran the update grub command in the terminal and it goes smoothly, but the extra menu items still don't go away.
Puzzingly the menu items point to the same partition on the drive as their clone. Both of the Fedora menu items point to sda8
For example.
tl;dr:
How can I remove menu entries in GRUB? I searched but could not find a reliable answer other than re-running update-grub.
How could I remove GRUB and replace it with Plymouth? Ubuntu Software Centre actually shows Plymouth as "Installed" even though it does not run on startup.

I have a bit of a minor niggle with ubuntu 10.04. The items in my top panel seem to rearrange themselves at random whenever i logout and then log back in again. For example, i normally have indicator applett session in the top right hand corner of my screen, but if i logout and log back in again it has occasionally jumped across to the left of the active panel items.

Items in my xfce panel are disappearing. First it was the networkmanager launcher which disappeared in xfce but still appeared when I used GNOME, then it disappeared in GNOME. My "x updates are available" icon and volume control icons are also gone, and just now my entire "applications" drop down menu disappeared. I frequently use xmonad so I know all the /bin/ commands for critical programs, but this is really annoying. Also, my desktop keeps changing back to a certain image without me changing it. If I was on windows I would think I had a virus. Maybe I dowlnoaded some bad games I was trying to play in wine? xubuntu 9.10, not updated for a little while since the icon disappeared, Thinkpad T61...
