After that I would like to ssh into the guest from the host but just the ssh command doesn't work. firewall is disabled on guest. the ip I use is the one that ifconfig shows when I run it on guest. sshd is running.
Recently loaded 11.3 onto a virtual machine, however none of the network settings will allow me to connect to the internet. First time Ive had this happen, other distro's Ive experimented with connected with no problems. I recall seeing a similar topic some time ago (dont remember if it was here or another forum), but at the time, there had been no fix. Anyone know if this has been fixed?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have OpenSuse 11.3 with VirtualBox on it, and with installed Oracle DB (on host OS).. but, sometimes this computer is disconnected, without it's gateway (adsl router)... and in that case, I cannot ping from virtual OS to host OS, or another virtual OS. I tried to use 'Host only' option within VirtualBox, but it doesn't work. What should I do? It seems that virtual machines requires some kind of gateway/router, but since machine is disconnected, it's not working.. how could I fix it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedVirtual Box doesn't work under ordinary user, though this user is in vboxusers group. Under SU it work normally. This happied after upgrage to 4.0.10-8.1 version from obs://build.opensuse.org/Virtualization community repository. In Oss repository there is 4.0.4 version.
Here the massage, that appears after start of Virtual Box under ordinary user: "Failed to create the VirtualBox COM object.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have ubuntu-8.04.1-server installed on virtual machine. It works perfect. Now, I made copy of this virtual machine. I started that copied machine and it works fine, except one thing: network does not work!
I have several others VMs with freeBSD, openBSD or Windows on it, but only ubuntu machine hes network problem after coping. I tried some other VM with ubuntu on it - same problem! I downloaded VM with ubuntu - same problem.I take a look into /etc/network/interfaces file and it looks just as it should (same as before coping) but ifconfig command returns parameters for lo only (before coping there was eth0 and lo).
Can I copy my virtual box VM windows XP virtual-machine files to another Linux computer and run the machine on that computer while I keep on running it on the original computer?

have You noticed that mt command doesn´t work anymore on 11.4? We try to install new version to hadle robotic library, but someone has written mt command as a new, and it doesn´t accept mt -f command anymore. cpio based mt command it´s not reliable as old one. Can anyone tell where to get old mt command which is compatrible new 11.4 x64 bit version?

Ubunu 9.1 and I would like to set up my machine so that when i type a domain name into another browser on my local network, I will get the apache server. I currently access the pages i have on the ubuntu server by typing the ip address into another machine on the network, I would like to type in a DNS type of name instead.
Ultimately, I would like to access this machine from outside of my network over the Internet, and would appreciate insight on how to do this, too.
The main thing preventing me from going Linux although I have it installed in a multi-boot is the probelm I have with Reconnecting the Network (eth0)
If I reboot everything is fine and I am automatically connected to internet via my Ethernet_NAT_router/Homeplug_PowerLine/Cable_Router (using DHCP)
But if I manually disconnect the Network using the tray icon, or through the terminal, when I reconnect the Network Manager says I am reconnected but actually I am not connected to the internet. I can load my Cable Routers configuration page but pages beyond that in the outside world are accessible no longer...
To regain access I have to reboot.
The reason this is important for me is that I reckon if I could get this sorted then if I put the laptop to sleep it will will wake up and reconnect.
As it is using Linux sleep function is unworkable unless I don't mind losing internet.
I am determined to get this sorted eventually as I feel sure there must be a solution. My laptop isn't new but is a good workhorse.

I know that you can run programs on a remote machine if both machines are windoze, or if both are linux. but can you run one from the other?
we have here a few openSUSE-machines (some 11.1 and 11.2) which mounts their /home from a NFS-Server and imports the users via NIS. I got everything working except any localhost connections from within the server. I've tried to connect using localhost, 127.0.0.1, and dedicated IP from within the server and several CMS sites I have moved over to the server and all the local host connections fail.

I'm using the Ubuntu VM as my local http server. It is reachable via ip - so http://IP-ADDRESS works. I also use samba for shared folders... but ubuntu is not listed in my network. What means that i cannot access files from outside the vm. Do I have to install further packages, because "normal" ubuntu distributions are listed in my network connections. Samba packages are correctly installed.

I created an archlinux vm guest using virtualbox on my windows desktop at work. I'm planning to use it for django development because there are no unix machines available to use as a workstation at work.
From the vm guest I can ping/ssh to other machines in the network, but not the other way around. It's like even though the guest machine has an ip address on the network and a hostname, neither is recognizable.
8.04 on a Lippert PC104, no xwindows. This is a little computer intended to just run one program headless in an instrument i am developing. I would like to run this one program from boot.The obvious answer is to add the program to rc.local followed by an &. This doesn't work.I have tried adding all sorts of things to rc.local including mkdir, touch, echo etc etc. the only utility that works is 'touch' which tells me that rc.local is getting executed.I tried creating a new service called local and putting that in rc2.d as priority 80 using rc-update.d. again, only touch worked. so i tried adding sleep 10 and running the utilities as daemons and still they won't run (except touch /var/lock/local).
