View 2 RepliesI have ubuntu-8.04.1-server installed on virtual machine. It works perfect. Now, I made copy of this virtual machine. I started that copied machine and it works fine, except one thing: network does not work!
I have several others VMs with freeBSD, openBSD or Windows on it, but only ubuntu machine hes network problem after coping. I tried some other VM with ubuntu on it - same problem! I downloaded VM with ubuntu - same problem.I take a look into /etc/network/interfaces file and it looks just as it should (same as before coping) but ifconfig command returns parameters for lo only (before coping there was eth0 and lo).
I installed a minimal ubuntu (minimal.iso) on a virtual machine (vmware) on my windows pc using following packages:

I'm using the Ubuntu VM as my local http server. It is reachable via ip - so http://IP-ADDRESS works. I also use samba for shared folders... but ubuntu is not listed in my network. What means that i cannot access files from outside the vm. Do I have to install further packages, because "normal" ubuntu distributions are listed in my network connections. Samba packages are correctly installed.
Recently loaded 11.3 onto a virtual machine, however none of the network settings will allow me to connect to the internet. First time Ive had this happen, other distro's Ive experimented with connected with no problems. I recall seeing a similar topic some time ago (dont remember if it was here or another forum), but at the time, there had been no fix. Anyone know if this has been fixed?

I have OpenSuse 11.3 with VirtualBox on it, and with installed Oracle DB (on host OS).. but, sometimes this computer is disconnected, without it's gateway (adsl router)... and in that case, I cannot ping from virtual OS to host OS, or another virtual OS. I tried to use 'Host only' option within VirtualBox, but it doesn't work. What should I do? It seems that virtual machines requires some kind of gateway/router, but since machine is disconnected, it's not working.. how could I fix it?

The issue is that when I type the following command, I get the further following horrible error message that doesn't seem to really point me to anywhere and I can't seem to find any relevant information to my problem on the web:

I created an archlinux vm guest using virtualbox on my windows desktop at work. I'm planning to use it for django development because there are no unix machines available to use as a workstation at work.
From the vm guest I can ping/ssh to other machines in the network, but not the other way around. It's like even though the guest machine has an ip address on the network and a hostname, neither is recognizable.
I'm working on a script. fter it has installed and removed packages, I need to configure a ton of settings. In GNOME, I understand that those settings are kept in "/home/user/.gconf". Can I create a virtual machine and configure the system through the GUI to my liking and then dump all of the settings, so that I can load them on another machine? Is it as simple as copying the directories?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having issues with my GigE Marvell NIC. The problems have started recently. Anytime I push network bandwidth over ~9MB/s, I loose all network connectivity. Stopping the network, rmmod'ing and modprobe'ing the sky2 module and then starting the network again does not resolve the issue (even though eth0 dissapears and then comes back). The only non-standard configuration (as far as desktops go) in my network is that I use a bridge so a KVM virtual machine can be exposed directly to the network. I'm currently testing the problem to see if it exists outside of the bridge.

After that I would like to ssh into the guest from the host but just the ssh command doesn't work. firewall is disabled on guest. the ip I use is the one that ifconfig shows when I run it on guest. sshd is running.
I have an ubuntu kk laptop connected via wireless to my mixed network (xp, win7, other ubuntu), but i can not ping said machine or connect via ssh. Internet and smb-browsing ON this machine work, as does pinging FROM it. If this was a windows machine, I'd say a firewall is in the way, but since it's a vanilla karmic install, this should not be the case (or should it?).

I am a linux beginner and dont know that much about networks! I have access to a linux VM. The machine is remote and i access via putty. If i can access this machine via SSH and putty, is there any reason why i should not be able to use ssh tunnelling to connect to a vnc server?
I don't know the details of the server and what firewall is set up but i believe that tunnelling uses port forwarding over the ssh connection that is already set up. Where does the port forwarding actually occur? At the actual linux VM or on the router the VM is connected to?
I've forwarded incoming connections on port 25 to my virtual machine with the following commands:
sudo iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -i eth0 -d 10.1.1.3 --dport 25 -j DNAT --to 192.168.56.101:25
sudo iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp -i eth0 -d 192.168.56.101 --dport 25 -j ACCEPT
The strange thing is the connections coming through in the virtual machine seem to be getting dropped. A port scan from the internet says the port is closed, but it is not the case as I can see the connection coming through. As you've probably worked out, I am running a mail server. When I send myself test mail, the connections from the senders mail server also gets dropped.
I've a weird problem about my honeypot project. All start from installation until running process is going smoothly but when I try to ping my honeyd vm from honeyd host it couldnt but it can be ping from other machine inside my local network. I am also usinng arpd for ARP request reply and standard honeyd config.

Bothf them are configured for static IPs. The trouble is that when machine B goes offline or hits a kernel panic, machine 1 goes offline too. I am using Ubuntu 10.04, 64-bit. I am trying to set up a virtual machine on it using vmbuilder. As I understand, I need to set up bridging. If I set up br0, then I cannot get out of the machine. Even a ping to 192.168.1.1 (my gateway) comes back as network unreachable. If I comment out #auto br0, then I can get out (on eth0), but i get an error from libvirt. My /etc/network/interfaces file (eth0 networking works, but libvirt does not):

I am currently running ubuntu on a qemu-kvm virtual machine, and the host is fedora. I would like to mount a folder of the host machine on my VM, but never succeeded. The result of the command is :

I had been running my SMTP server with WINE, as the SMTP server software is a Windows-based program (MERCURY), but I cracked the shits with WINE and removed it. Now I am running my SMTP server in a Windows virtual machine.This virtual machine has a different IP address from my host machine, so what I need is for my computer (the host) to redirect incoming traffic on port 25 to the virtual machine at 192.168.56.101 on port 2525.Can someone please help me with it? I think its done with iptables.
