I can't get my wlan running, although it already worked on my notebook (Dell Inspiron 1545) with opensuse 11.1. Then I installed debian and, I don't know how, it changed my kernel in grub from .pae to .debug (renameing in grub didn't help)

There is no wlan0 interface when trying to run FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick N 2.4 on OpenSuSE 11.2, though it works fine on Fedora 11 and Mandriva Spring 2009.1. All 64bit. Contrary to Fedora and Mandriva, there is no need to compile the compat-wireless module ar9170usb for OpenSuSE 11.2 because the kernel is very recent and includes this driver. I have just installed opensuse 11.3. I am absolutely new for Linux and for this forum. I have tried to open Network manager to configure my wlan. But its not starting. How to start network manager and configuring my wlan.
Am all of 2 days old on Opensuse 11.0 having just installed it on my old PC. All my experience has been with XP/Vista and Macs and it took some courage to finally try this out. My Belkin F5D9050 wireless(g+ MIMO) usb network card is recognised in yast but does not connect to the internet. On reading through forums I understand that this adaptor uses RAlinks RT73 chipset and support for should already be available in the OS. Is this correct ? If not, where do I get the driver for this and how do I install this. As per the Belkin site, Opensuse driver support isnt listed. Am struggling due to the unfamiliar environment and am not aware of terminal commands.
I can't get WLAN up on my Dell Mini 10v (BCM 4312)/openSUSE 11.3/LXDE. And yes, I have thoroughly read iwfingers's 'Getting your Wireless to Work'. After installing openSUSE 11.3 ifconfig can see eth0, l0 and wlan0. No WLAN running. dsmesq|grep firmware prompts me to '/usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware"
After having done that and reboot ifconfig can only see eth0 and l0. Installing broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36-7.pm.16.4.i586.rpm broadcom-wl-kmp-default-5.60.48.36_k2.6.34.0_12-7.pm.16.4.i586.rpm (current ones from Packman) does, Shall I try to install the drivers without installing the firmware first?
Why does broadcom-wl-kmp-default-5.60.48.36_k2.6.34.0_12-7.pm.16.4.i586.rpm install a new default kernel? Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 had no problems with WLAN.
Brand new to the OpenSuse project. I'm have an old AMD Duron running 11.3 and I am having no luck in connecting to the www. I'm using a D-Link usb wireless adapter. I seem to have an IP address for the PC. here is the print from ifconfig:
The wireless network on my laptop is configured with a static IP. (not using nm). When I take the laptop out of the range of my wireless router the essid is becoming off/any therefore when I'm back in range the connection is not reestablished and to re-enable the connection I gotta do "iwconfig wlan0 essid <essid name>" otherwise there is no connection. Make sure that essid stays configured unless I manually want to change it?
recently ran into a problem with my internet access. Im using open suse 11.2 on a Dell Vostro 1520 laptop. I managed to get my wlan running and i can use firefox to access my router. In my router the laptop is also showing as connnected, dhcp reserved an ip for it.However if i try to browse the internet, no page is loading, actually no software that needs access to the web is working.

I get connected to the internet via a router. The router dials to my provider and is connected to my computers via LAN and WLAN (mostly WLAN, see below). A few days ago I installed Suse11.2 to an old laptop (connected both ways: ethernet with wire and wireless ethernet).
The access to the online repositories worked only after I added the LAN-Adapter (Eth0) to the Demilitarised Zone of the firewall (I did also with the WLAN Adapter).
1. Is this normal?
2. Should I add the network devices now to an other zone?
I want to update my main laptop now from openSuse11.1 to 11.2 via new installation (from DVD) and make this installation right.
Or should I install only the data on the DVD and update after the installation via Yast? (My main laptop has also an loose contact at the ethernet adapter.)

Now I am using (on my main laptop = Samsung X20) openSuse 11.1 and Gnome 2.24.1 (mostly, 1 account is using KDE) and Kernel Linux 2.6.27.45-01.1-pae. "/home" is on an separated partition (as part of an extended partition). I have also 2 NTFS partitions for Windows XP (System and Data), and a FAT, a root (/) and a swarp partition. My router is a AVM fritzbox 7270 (firewall should be included).
I'm trying to install the drivers for my Wlan card, I've downloaded the drivers in the tar.gz-file from Broadcom and untar-ed it in my /home/<username>/hybrid_wl-folder and cd'ed to it and I try to run "make" but I get an error: KBUILD_NOPEDANTIC=1 make -C /lib/modules/'uname -r' /build M='pwd' make: *** /lib/modules*2.6.31.5-0.1-default/build: No such file or directory. I'm getting really desperate, I need my Wlan on Wednesday. I'm following the README but this is what I get.
I'm unable to get into my university's WLAN network. LAN works just fine, but sometimes it's quite convenient to be able to access stuff wirelessly. It doesn't seem to be a hardware problem, because if I configure my computer according to our computer department's instructions it works fine with Ubuntu (currently I carry around a stick to get into the Internet when I really need it and don't have a cable). Some info:
My device: Broadcom WLAN controller on a Lenovo G560
My system: OpenSUSE 11.3 64-bit
The drivers are installed, I can get into normal private networks, but have never managed to get into the university network except for with Ubuntu.
The university instructions tell me to use the following settings: Security: WPA Enterprise Authentification: TTLS Inner Authentification: PAP Username: My username Password: Password CA Certificate: Deutsche_Telekom_Root_CA_2.pem In the KDE instructions, they tell you to write "anonymous" into the anonymous identity field, but in the GNOME instructions it says to leave it blank. In Ubuntu, I leave it blank and it works.
I've got the recommended settings, which also work in GNOME.
I'd ask the tech support here, but I am the tech support We've got it working with other systems, like I said, but not with SUSE, and I'm a SUSE fan.
I have searched around a bit for a knetwork manager issue I am having on my opensuse 11.2 32 bit install. My wireless card is an 04:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01) I am currently using the Broadcom wl driver
I am on the Internet with this machine as I am typing using the older "ifup" method. I am having great difficulty connecting to the Internet when I use knetwork manger though. The strange part is when I am connected to my router with knetwork manager, I can log into my Router, but I can not get to any web-page/ping any outside address.
so far the best (I was able to locate) advice I was able to get is located in this post. < Broadcom wireless, partchy internet - openSUSE Forums > following a posted how to to disable IPV6 (I suspect this may be the issue??), I was unable to locate modprobe.conf, or modprobe.conf.local, even after I updated via updatdb. I gave a shot at entering in "disable_ipv6=1" into "menu.lst". However, this did not solve my issue with knetwork manager. If my network information is needed when I am "connected" utilizing knetwork manager
i installed suse (KDE) on my old notebook and now I'm trying to get the wlan to connect to our router and can't figure out how to get it to work. My card seems to work, the network manager even finds the router, but i just cant get a connection. I followed the steps of the "Getting Your Wireless to Work" thread and these are the results:

I have a CentOS 5.5 server running currently with a Netgear gigabit ethernet card and for wifi I have a wi-fi card with the chipset: RT2860.Now I have gotten the ethernet card and wi-fi card working but my main question is: How do you bridge the connection between the ethernet card and the wi-fi card to create a wireless network with a hidden ESSID if possible and WPA encryption? (So the server basically acts as a wireless router as well as doing all the other stuff I need to do on it).
I removed using yast the package "ssl-cert". At this point yast2 started throwing the error:

I had a wireless connection to open suse from last year. I then had a problem with my Netgear 824 router. I have reconnected to windows vista. Now I have to get opensuse working on wireless. I do not have much experience in opensuse I have read the forums and the sticky and also from wicd forums. I have checked the yast settings and it is for AR242x ath0 and Wired L2 100 eth0.

Even though I am not new to Suse, I am still very inexperienced, especially when it comes to wireless. I am running Suse Linux 11.3 and I am having problems connecting to my wireless. My network controller is a RaLink RT2500 802.11g Cardbus/mini-PCI (rev 01). I am recieving a signal from my wireless router, however when I try to connect to my ESSID via KnetworkManager It asks for a WEP key. After entering the key, Knetnetwork manager will try to connect for a minute or so and then it will ask for my WEP key again. It keeps repeating this cycle without ceasing. How to configure the WEP so that Knetwork manager will connect or a way around WEP.
My Dell Vostro 1520's Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card must not have been set-up correctly, as the Network Manager won't even let me select the wireless tab. Please just explain to me, step by step, what exactly I must do to make it work! I recently installed opensuse 11.2 on my laptop which also had windows vista and windows 7, i created a new partition and the installation went smoothly, after i went to boot back into windows 7 i got a blue screen of death, strangely vista boots perfectly.I could just reinstall windows 7 but its a pain to reinstall all my programs and such

Since a recent update on Stretch, I have been unable to use the network-manager to connect to my home wireless network on my laptop. It was working fine before. I did not change any settings on the WLAN router. I can still connect to other wireless networks at work and university, just not this particular one at home. All other non-Debian devices in my household are still able to connect just fine.While figuring this out, I have tried connecting manualy with ifup but I don't really know how that works. Right now there is only the loopback entry in /etc/network/interfaces.

I bought an USB-WLAN stick, which does not recognize any network. A Ralink 802.11 bg WLAN Stick works fine, but the Ralink 802.11 n WLAN Stick does not work unfortunately. Both get recognized by the nm-applet of network manager but only the first one recognizes my network and is able to connect to it.
I have found instructions but they are not working. I am new to Ubuntu and have only had a few classes that dealt with Fedora and CentOS. So I am rather new to Linux in general. The drivers say they are compatible with linux kernel 2.6 and later so I am going to assume they should work with ubuntu--am I correct in this assumption? If so, when one installs anything in ubuntu should one be set as the admin?
Recently, I had the courage of installing Fedora 11 on my laptop while risking of trashing my Windows XP. Fortunately, the installation went fine and windows and fedora seems to be working together. But I needed to reinstall Fedora because I didn't do the partitioning right. After that the problem arises. I couldn't connect to the wlan. The first installation it was working fine. Now I can't. I select the network, enter the password and then it just says "Disconnected" or something like that then nothing else happens. So I had to reinstall it again thinking I did something wrong on the installation. But still it wasn't working. But it seems to be working when I boot from the live cd. I must have messed up my network configuration.
recently I risked a look to the Linux world and I'm happy so far, but now I've got a Problem, I'm unable to solve by myself. I installed Mint (Julia) on my old Laptop to test Linux. The Laptop has a very old PCMCIA WLAN Card with a Realtek rtl8180 chipset. Everything seems to run perfectly so far with one exception: the WLAN doesn't find any Network to connect although the card and the driver seem to be installed correctly.

I dual boot windows xp and ubuntu 10.04 LTS and the wireless card works perfectly fine in xp so I know its not a hardware/network issue. In ubuntu, it detects wireless networks, will connect to network and work for about 20 seconds.

and it continues on after this alternating between a normal 20ms and high ping over 200ms. The connection refuses to load anything off the internet/local network.
I've just got a TP-Link wn-851n PCI WLAN card, and the problem is that ubuntu can search for the network, but I can't join into the network after typing the password. I'm sure that it is correct as m Windows notebook is also using that network.
Taking a look in dmesg, and it start to loop this message after I joined the network.
After reading and trying tons of tutorials and several OS reinstalls, I'm stuck trying to load wireless on my Dell Vostro 1400 laptop. Before you say search forums! I hurry to tell I did. No solution seems to work. WLAN chipset - Broadcom's BCM4311 / BCM 2050. 1st scenario - native CentOS 5.3 drivers Although CentOS recognize WLAN card and displays it's name correctly, neither network or NetworkManager sees any of wireless networks.
2nd scenario - Broadcom's drivers Most know Broadcom has released Linux drivers. I had some more luck with them than in 1st scenario although problems occur. After successfully compiling Kernel module, wireless networks are discovered and can be successfully connected but no pages load. It seems like DNS is not resolving at all and page loading timeouts instantly. Tested on TKIP-encrypted network.
