OpenSUSE Network :: "ping Winpc" Resolves To Wrong Ip Address?

Mar 13, 2010

I have a Suse 11.2 machine named "susepc" on a network with some other windows machines. From the Suse 11.2 machine, I try ping winpchere winpc is the name of a windows machine on the LAN but the name resolves to an odd ip address:PING winpc.HOMENET (72.215.225.9)he "HOMENET" is the correct name of the windows workgroup, but the ip address is completely wrong. My LAN is based on 10.20.x.x and the winpc ip address should be 10.20.0.100. I can "ping 10.20.0.100" and it works correctly. Some things:- DHCP server is on the router- pinging from winpc to susepc works perfectly ("ping susepc" resolves to the correct IP address 10.20.0.101 and the pings respond)- "net view" on winpc lists the susepc - SAMBA is installed on susepc- the Netbios name is set to susepc- I have a shared folder on susepc that I can see, create files in, etc. on winpc with no problems.- IPV6 is disabled on susepc- I have tried setting up susepc as a WINS server (Wins Support)
- I have tried setting up susepc as a Local Network Browser

OpenSUSE Network :: Nmblookup Resolves But Cannot Ping Netbios Names Or Ping FQDN

Feb 23, 2011

This applies to my 2 opensuse PC's, my Windows PC is fine.I can ping a hostname, say "PC1" but I can not ping PC1.domain.local (even the host PC can not ping it's own FQDN). When I ping just the hostname the ping stats even list the FQDN.Onto the next issue, since all my PC's, have the domain prefix domain.local, my Synology can not. I can ping it's IP and that is it. I can resolve it's name with nmblookup just fine tho and that is what is killing me. How is this not resolving.Even weirder, I can browse to "Synology" in Network Servers under places on the slab.

Networking :: Domain Name Resolves To Wrong Ip From Lan?

Nov 12, 2010

I have a peculular routing problem on my hands. I have a server running in my office. it has various services running on it (httpd sshd etc.) in order to access these services I have a domain name pointing to my IP.If I try to connect to the server from an external IP, all is fine and working as normal. However, if I am connecting from the interal lan to the server, my domain name resolves to the address of the routerSo for instance everywhere on the interent my domain name resolves to the correct external IP (12.23.34.45) which is then connecting through my cable modem (12.23.34.45) to my router (192.168.55.66) and directed to my server (80.80.80.80)however if I resolve my domain from within my lan, I get my routers ip 192.168.55.66 so trying to connect to my server times out while connection to the wrong device. My network setup is very simple. nothing fancy.I think I'm using google's 8.8.8.8 for my dns server

OpenSUSE Network :: Unable To Ping The Default Gateway When Using Custom Settings - Unreachable Network

Jul 17, 2011

I installed openSUSE on one of my work system. The network port wasn't working when I was installing, but works fine now (checked in Windows). But for some reason, I am not able to configure the network. I used both Dynamic and Static IPs (both work fine in Windows) but still no go. I am using Yast Control Center for this purpose. I can't even ping the default gateway when I am using custom settings. When I use dynamic settings, it says Unreachable Network.

OpenSUSE Network :: Weired Ping Problems In Working Network?

Feb 13, 2011

I'm new to SuSe and lateley I was trying to establish a Network, when some weired problems occured. I was able to establish the network and i have connection to the internet. The suse-machine is rechable by ping from all the other computers in the network. If I'm tryiing to ping the other computers from the suse-machine, nothing happens. The router responds without packet loss, but every other ping occurs in:

From 192.168.2.6: icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.2.6: icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.2.6: icmp_seq=4 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.2.6: icmp_seq=5 Destination Host Unreachable

I've been searching for some ideas to solve this problem but couldn't find any.

OpenSUSE Network :: Error As "This Address Uses A Network Port Which Is Normally Used For Purposes Other Than Web Browsing

Jul 27, 2011

I am facing two issues with CUPS - 1. I have installed cups 1.3.9 over OpenSuse11 x86. Please check below -

cups:/usr/share/cups/banners # cups-config --version
1.3.9
cups:/usr/share/cups/banners # cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.27.7-9-pae (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.3.2 [gcc-4_3-branch revision 141291] (SUSE Linux) ) #1 SMP 2008-12-04 18:10:04 +0100

I have added few printers over there and everything is working fine. I can also able to add - delete - modify any printers from "yast2 printer" command. I can also able to browse cups web interface via http://cups:631, but when I am going to manage the printers (start - stop - delete etc), none of the buttons are working in firefox5 not even in IE also. Older version of firefox is giving error as "This address uses a network port which is normally used for purposes other than Web browsing. Firefox has canceled the request for your protection." All other buttons are working properly.

2. LINUX - LINUX Printing - OK
LINUX - WINDOWS Printing - OK
WINDOWS - LINUX Printing - NOT OK

While giving printing from Windows machine (Printer attached on Linux), there is no problem to coonect the printers, but unable to print.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Network Manager Stuck On 'setting Network Address' Then Continuously Prompts For Hex Or ASCII Key

May 28, 2011

When I attempt to connect to a wireless network, the network manager asks me for the network's password, then says 'setting network address' for 20 or so seconds, then asks me for some random Hex or ASCII key in the same type of window I put the password in (Secrets for Noel -- KDE Daemon). Since a key is already typed into the window, I press OK, which then causes the network manager to go back to 'setting network address', then the window pops up again and keeps repeating itself.

I'm running Opensuse 11.4 with KDE, and my driver is ath9k. I don't know much about linux so please don't tell me to 'recompile this' or 'change this setting' without explaining how to do it. Please help, I've been unable to connect to wireless in OpenSUSE for 2 weeks now.

OpenSUSE Network :: No Internet Except For Web Browsing / What Went Wrong With It?

Jan 18, 2011

I'm hoping someone might be able to suggest what went wrong with my networking, so I can continue using OpenSUSE! I've been running version 11.3 with KDE (64 bit) for a few months now (dual booting with Ubuntu); everything had been working fine until about a week ago - the only issue I had was that some internet-based things seemed a bit slower than in Ubuntu.

Anyway, after the last set of updates I installed (around Jan. 6th; there was a kernel update and a few other things. I'm not sure where to locate the history in YaST) I lost functionality of all internet-based programs, with the exception of Firefox. (I'm using Firefox in openSUSE right now to access this forum, for example.) Although I can browse the web just fine, I can't use Thunderbird to check email, the weather and comics plasma applets don't work, and the system can no longer connect to the software repositories.

I didn't change any settings (to my knowledge), but somehow Internet access is being denied to most of my system!

OpenSUSE Network :: Ping Between Two Guest Os On Two Different Subnet Masks

Mar 15, 2010

Step 1 : In Hyper-v Machine i have created two Virtual Ports.

Step 2 : Now for these two diff ports two ip address with different subnet mask(e.g 192.168.9.19 and 192.16.9.20)have been assigned(and have checked using ifconfig).

Step 3 : In Host machine i have added one subnetmask for one machine next one for another machine, however i m not able to ping both the ports from either of the machines having static ip 192.168.9.13 or having ip 192.16.9.107.

Step 4 : If i add same subnet mask for both machine it is pinging properly between 2 machines.

The install itself went acceptably, although I ended up manually fixing GRUB.Now the system is running, I've got a ridiculous problem, in that I'm still seeing the old hostname- It used to be ubuntu-server, but should now be unimatrix-001.Checked both the obvious places (/etc/HOSTNAME & YaST), but the correct hostname is in both of them.
