I want to have an inn server running on my own server, both to relay my prefered newsgroups and to manage my own newsgroups.
I installed inn with YaST, but I'm lost in the inn documentation. I'm pretty sure openSUSE defaults solve most problems but can't find where I have to setup my own config
I have installed OpenSuse 11.3 and I works quite well in my dell latitude xt2, even touch screen right out of the box.
I like Liferea for news feeds but when I try to read any feed from Slashdot it crashes after some seconds. It also happens with another source, etwinning.es.
I think that i lost my memory, because i completely forgot how to accomplish this.
I have a WEB/MAIL server configured to work on a static IP address, lets say 200.11.22.33.
Now I wanna point a domain to that server to get the services up and running, lets say mydom.com ...
The static IP Address is assigned by my Internet Provider.
I'm lost in the part of connecting the domain with the server.
I have the domain DNS pointing to the ISP name servers, but I don't remember if this is the correct way, or if I have to setup my own DNS server.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed suse on this computer, and am wanting to allow other computers to store files on it as a file server. I was reading the online manual and in the personal file preferences, it shows an option to enable 'share public files over network'. The problem is I don't see that option when I open up file preferences. All I see is an option to allow sharing using bluetooth, nothing about sharing over the network. When I look in the network I can see the computer running suse, but when I try to connect to it, it says 'unable to mount drive: connection refused by server.'

The network is a private network with a few servers without any connection to Internet and no DNS. They resolve one another by /etc/hosts. with smtp configured am able to send and receive emails on one machine(host1) from unix user abc on host1 to user xyz on host1 and vice versa. the commad i used to test is host1@abc #echo "this is a test mail" |mailx zyx@host1 But when i tried sending from user abc on host1 to user xyz on host2 its giving error for DNS unable to resolve hostname.

I have a devolo MicroLink 56k Fun LAN modem, which I could configure in openSuse 11.2 as an DSL device. With 11.2 it worked fine. But it isn't possible in 11.3 to configure it, because I cannot set the dial up internet provider phone number for this DSL device.I also tried it to configure it as a modem, but then it used the /dev/modem device, which is the wrong device for this LAN modem.

In mandriva it is done by modifying a file :

where you state your gmail account details.

I'm new to networks and servers, been using Linux on the desktop for a while now but always relied on the company's IT guy for setting up everyting LAN-based.
Now I want to build up my home LAN, and want to do it with Linux. I've managed to set up LAMP and file share servers.
What I am looking for is information on what I need, and how to set up a server for the following tasks:Centralized Username and Password, that when the user logs into any one of the desktops in the LAN, it uses this for authentication
Something that allows this authentication to be utilized in other servers (file access, web access, router logging, etc.). Something to make it easier for continuing permissions from one service to another. e.g. I have IPCop filtering content, and it has provisions for tracking who is making which request if there is authentication going on. (optionally) to run a script for mounting Samba shares or mapped network drives so from one system to the next. For example, in whatever box somebody logs in, it mounts a server share ("smb://Myserver/users/<username>") to a local folder ("my_user_share").
So;user "fred" ="smb://Myserver/users/fred" and user "wilma" = "smb://Myserver/users/wilma" but both would find their respective one mounted under "~/my_user_share". This would be irrespective of which box they are loggin in with. If the server share location changes (new server/servername), I change it on the server so the next time they log in it points to the right place.
I guess it is similar to Window's Active Directory, though I'm not sure what it's called, how to configure it and what it is and is not capable of doing.
I have openSUSE 11.2 installed and i need to create a gateway server that allows virtual private network connections. I want to play with my friends some lan games, but we are in different networks, so i want to create this gateway server so we can connect with VPN clients to this server and play freely.

According to what I've read, this requires rarpd and tftpd which I've set up on opensuse, but also bootparamd which I can't find for 11.3. It seems it was last included with opensuse 9.2. View 1 Replies View RelatedThis time I'm attempting to get Xorg up, and running. I've done a minimal Debian install from a network install disc. I used aptitude the install the following, with the dependencies configured automatically I assume:
- xorg
- openbox
- xserver-xorg-video-n (Where n is your graphics card family)
I've rebooted, and no X. I've typed in 'xstart', with no result. I've even typed in 'Xorg' at the CLI where it loads to a black screen, and hangs. I had to power off the PC by holding down the power button.Is there something I'm missing to configure/run it for the first time?

In 10.04 there is only the taskbar icon to edit settings, and it has a different structure. It asks for MAC address (example 00.11.22.33.44.55). Other info required is IPv4 settings, DHCP client ID, about routers and other stuff. There may be other system settings to be made, which I can try with proper guidance. The ubuntu help page gives very sketchy information, and the images are not clear at all. No response to that till second day. Subsequently: In the 'wired' tab the 'routes' button popped a table where I entered address as 127.0.0.1, and netmask as 255.0.0.0, leaving gateway and metric blank. This is all geek stuff for me - I'm an old-fashioned engineer from the slide-rule era!

When I installed OpenSUSE 11.1 on my server, at some point, I gave the server a description. Whenever I connect to any of the shares on the server, this description appears. For example, on one Windows workstation, there is a share which appears in Windows Explorer as "Midwest on 'Cincinnati Corporate ISS Server (ISS0042)' (T:)".
For the life of me, I cannot find where this description, "Cincinnati Corporate ISS Server", is stored. I've search through /etc, and poked around ad nauseum in YAST, but I am missing it. Where is this description stored? What is the YAST function to change it?
