I just recently setup a OpenSUSE 11.3 server with Xrdp which I got from the 11.1 tutorial. Everything had been working great until yesterday I let the system run a update and now whenever I try to login I get login failed. When I look in xrdp-sesman.log file it says X server died. I've searched around for this problem and it seems there is some talk about it from a few years back but nothing as of recent and nothing that has worked so far. I'm kinda at a loss with this and really would like to get it up and running again.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI updated Samba to 3.5.1 as shown in: Fixing "Authorization Dialog" bug in Samba for 11.2 - openSUSE ForumsWhen I copy files between two copies of Samba in two openSUSE 11.2 PC's with the new update, I get Samba Process Unexpectedly Died (in Dolphin). This happens going from Computer 1 to 2 or 2 to 1, it does not matter and the error is the same.
After reverting back to Samba version 3.4.2 in both PC's, all files copied between PC's work fine again. Though the "Authorization Dialog" bug is gone, not all seems right with the newest update version.
I was just mucking about in xfce, trying out new window buttons in conjunction with the black theme - dusk?? - when POW! - X shut down. Rebooting didn't restore things. Error is along these lines:

I'm working with OpenSusse 11.2. I installed and activated the NFS server via yast2. I exported the relevant directory via yast2 (NFS server configurastion)
I'm trying to setup my Linux target to boot via NFS. The kernel boots up but fails to mount the file system. When looking on a capture from ethereal it can be found that the NFS server return error when client try to mount the /nfstest directory from this server. The returned error is 13

Installed earlier today VNC Free Edition and i like it a lot but the problem was that i have to log in after a restart whit my debian server before i can use vnc viewer, and i didin't like that you had to use it with out any encryption in the free edition. Sow i decided to try remote desktop sollution from windows 7 to debian.[edit] ended up whit xrdp on my debian server and it installed with out any problem but when i connected to it with windows 7 with the program Remote desktop Connection i get this error when i click something:
Remote Desktop connection: Becuse of a Protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again have somebady crost this problem before? does sombady have any good alternative program for xrdp? I have a wireless router, but my desktop computer is connecting to it, or maybe to the modem, by an Ethernet cable. It has a built-in wireless card, so just as an experiment, I tried to connect to my network wirelessly. It didn't work. And not only did I not get any internet connection, I can't get any internet through the wired connection either. The internet works fine with Windows Vista (I'm dual-booting), as well as when I boot up Backtrack off of a Live DVD. I can still access my router's config page by going to 192.168.2.1 on a web browser, but I can't access anything else.

I was connected remotely using Putty, doing some stuff, and all of the sudden some commands, like "ls" stopped working, giving a "file or command not found" type of message. I restarted the ssh session, only to find out I couldn't log on any more (access denied). I have added few printers over there and everything is working fine. I can also able to add - delete - modify any printers from "yast2 printer" command. I can also able to browse cups web interface via http://cups:631, but when I am going to manage the printers (start - stop - delete etc), none of the buttons are working in firefox5 not even in IE also. Older version of firefox is giving error as "This address uses a network port which is normally used for purposes other than Web browsing. Firefox has canceled the request for your protection." All other buttons are working properly.

WINDOWS - LINUX Printing - NOT OK
While giving printing from Windows machine (Printer attached on Linux), there is no problem to coonect the printers, but unable to print.
I install from openSUSE-11.3-NET-x86_64.iso. Installation was succesfull, but after install all packet on test internet / update was error. And after log in in installed system internet not work. I use router with DHCP

I went about installing it thinking that it would all work. But it seems that I was wrong. So I try to start mysql, and here's what I get:

I am running a NFS share on a Debian Lenny server with to network interface.
Sometimes when booting the server the following messages i shown in syslog:

If the system is rebooted then NFS is functional again. I would like to know way this happens somtimes so i can repair it, anyone with an idea? Another thing is that i would like to bind the NFS service to a specific interface e.g eth1 is this possible?
I'm new to networks and servers, been using Linux on the desktop for a while now but always relied on the company's IT guy for setting up everyting LAN-based.
Now I want to build up my home LAN, and want to do it with Linux. I've managed to set up LAMP and file share servers.
What I am looking for is information on what I need, and how to set up a server for the following tasks:Centralized Username and Password, that when the user logs into any one of the desktops in the LAN, it uses this for authentication
Something that allows this authentication to be utilized in other servers (file access, web access, router logging, etc.). Something to make it easier for continuing permissions from one service to another. e.g. I have IPCop filtering content, and it has provisions for tracking who is making which request if there is authentication going on. (optionally) to run a script for mounting Samba shares or mapped network drives so from one system to the next. For example, in whatever box somebody logs in, it mounts a server share ("smb://Myserver/users/<username>") to a local folder ("my_user_share").
So;user "fred" ="smb://Myserver/users/fred" and user "wilma" = "smb://Myserver/users/wilma" but both would find their respective one mounted under "~/my_user_share". This would be irrespective of which box they are loggin in with. If the server share location changes (new server/servername), I change it on the server so the next time they log in it points to the right place.
I guess it is similar to Window's Active Directory, though I'm not sure what it's called, how to configure it and what it is and is not capable of doing.
I have openSUSE 11.2 installed and i need to create a gateway server that allows virtual private network connections. I want to play with my friends some lan games, but we are in different networks, so i want to create this gateway server so we can connect with VPN clients to this server and play freely.
