OpenSUSE Network :: Easy-LTSP Will Not Setup?

Feb 4, 2010

Just loaded Open SUSE EDU L I F E 11.2.2 on a Server and like what I see. The install went well and everything came up fine. I like the look and feel of this distro. The GUI features are impressive. Internet connects via eth1 . Sound, CD/DVD works and plays ok/ , grapics all working. I have two NIC cards installed.I am preparing (learning , testing, exploring) with a number of Servers that I want to take to schools in Africa. One of the key components that I need to get up and working is the LTSP. I was delighted to see that this version includes EASY-LTSP with a KIWI component. [SUSE KIWI-LTSP] So I printed out the LTSP/Quick start/Easy-LTSP (Guide) and tried to set up LTSP on my server.I went to KIWI/Prebuild in the Easy-LTSP presentation page.A box popped up with this info:

Prebuild Images:
IP 10.0.0.254
Interface eth0

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.2 Xen Bridged Networking - Setup Multiple DomU Through The Default Bridge Setup

Feb 4, 2010

Im trying to setup multiple domU through the default bridge setup. I am able to access only one of them through the network at a time. If you ping one of the domU it works perfectly but you cannot ping any of the others until you stop pinging the one and even then it takes a bit before you can. Ive looked around for a while and seen similar problems but nothing ever seems quite the same. Im probably missing something really stupid. Or is this the way the bridge is supposed to behave? Do i need to use a routed virtual network?

I have an opensuse 11.3 install which I want to set up as a network boot server to install Solaris 10 on a Sun Ultra 10 client. According to what I've read, this requires rarpd and tftpd which I've set up on opensuse, but also bootparamd which I can't find for 11.3. It seems it was last included with opensuse 9.2. Does anyone know if it's available, if I could use the suse 9.2 version, or any alternative?

Networking :: Thin Clients On The Network All Have The LTSP Server IP While Surfing?

Dec 10, 2009

My 32-bit Ubuntu 9.10 [Karmic Koala] LTSP server has two NICs, one with Dynamic IP set by a DSL modem and the other with static IP of 192.168.0.254. I also have 4 thin Clients that boot from this server without any problems and another computer with Ubuntu 9.04 running some PHP programs with dynamic IP given by the same DSL modem. When I send requests to these PHP programs from thin clients, they all give the LTSP server's dynamic IP as their IP so I cannot trace who has sent this request to response back.

I actually know this is logical. Because the requests are sent by a program that's actually running on the LTSP server rather than the thin client. But my question is How can I run a program on a thin client with it's own IP? I also should mention that the dhcp3-server service running on the LTSP server has no conflicts with the DSL dhcp on the network and I know that the 4 thin clients get the IPs ranging from 192.168.1.101 through 192.168.1.104 from the dhcp3-server service. Because I can ping them while they're on. but /sbin/ifconfig on them shows info about the LTSP server.

Ubuntu Networking :: LTSP Server Doesn't Have Client Network Card Driver

Sep 1, 2010

I'm setting up an LTSP server using Ubuntu 10.4 64bit, and PXE connecting with thin clients using Atheros cards. The ltsp environment is 32bit.

Unfortunately I get an error message with "No interfaces found! Aborting..." and a kernel panic early during PXE boot.

After an enormous amount of investigation, I've narrowed it down to (probably) being the fact that the ltsp chroot environment doesn't have the correct driver for my network card (I believe it's atl1c). The correct driver IS available in Ubuntu, though, as I can successfully boot the thin client from both 64bit and 32bit live CDs and bring up the network interface.

how can I install the correct driver in the PXE environment?

OpenSUSE Network :: How To Setup With Firewalls On Two Machines

Jan 6, 2010

I have several Windoz machines in a peer-to-peer network and now two SUSE machines, one 11.1 and another 11.2.I have a network printer accessible now to all the machines. My next step is to be able to share files between all the machines and several network drives. I know how to set this up between the Windoz machines, but the only way I can get the SUSE machines to see the network (and be seen) is to shut down their firewalls, and I don't think that's how you are supposed to do it?Can someone point me to what it is that I need to read, or is there a FAQ somewhere to help get me started?

I think that this has something to do with Samba and I installed Samba (client or server? I forget) on the 11.1 and 11.2 seems to have it already built-in, but I don't know how to set it up with the firewalls on the two Linux machines so that it is all seamless (as if anything can be seamless).

OpenSUSE Network :: Xen NAT Setup In 11.2 - No Basic Connectivity?

Feb 21, 2010

I am experimenting with Xen with the standard kernel (kernel-xen package) and utilities. I already got bridged setup to work with a single domU, but found out that because of my wireless card I cannot expect bridging to work when connected wirelessly. Now I am trying a NAT setup but I cannot seem to get any network connection from the domU to the dom0 and viceversa. Comparing the network devices and routing tables of others, I cannot see any problem.

The domU runs with IP 10.0.0.1 and the dom0 has a vif with IP 10.0.0.128 with a default gateway of 10.0.0.254. Pinging from the domU to the dom0 and viceversa does not show any traffic at all when I use tcpdump to monitor eth0 in the domU or the vif interface in dom0. It seems that basic connectivity of the vif interface and eth0 in the domU does not work. Any tips on how to debug this problem?

OpenSUSE Network :: Firewall Setup For OpenMPI - Can't Get To Run

Jul 24, 2010

(Which is also connected to cable modem for internet.) I can ssh between the machnes, mount directories with NFS, etc. However, I just can't get the OpenMPI to run. The OpenMPI message board suggested that the most probable cause is that the firewall is blocking TCP. I don't know how to tell if that's the problem, and can't find any manual for the SuSE firewall, while the various Wikis &c that pop up in a search don't provide any information that addresses my problem.
