i have sound but my mic capture seems to be not working in skype or well anything else and I'm confused on what to do after searching. It's an integrated mic somewhere in my laptop. I enabled capture in Kmix but that didn't seem to do anything.

When I talk to anybody on Skype, the sound is really slow, it sounds like I am a robot. Its running at maybe 1/2 normal speed. I am using Xine backend and internal microphone.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using openSUSE 11.2 KDE on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi 1536 laptop. My problem is that my microphone (I'm attempting to use a 3.5mm headset) doesn't work. Audio playback however does work through the built-in speakers and headphones.
I have gone through the SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE as suggested by oldcpu on the Welcome to multimedia sub-area sticky.

I'm running Xubuntu 10.10 on an ASUS Eee 1215T; the sound hardware on the system is a Realtek ALC259, and there's also sound output through HDMI with an ATI RS690/780 HDMI chip (both according to alsamixer). I was recently fiddling with the sound settings to try to get sound output through the HDMI port. I was successful in that, but I can no longer record sound using the built-in microphone. I'm pretty sure this is something I messed up, since sound recording worked correctly when I first installed Xubuntu, but I'm not sure what I need to do to fix it. I've tried all the promising-looking settings in gnome-volume-control and xfce4-mixer to no avail, and alsamixer also shows everything, both playback and capture, at 100% volume and un-muted; alsamixer also shows that the capture is turned on. I only used these tools (gnome-volume-control, xfce4-mixer, and alsamixer) to get the HDMI output working.

I just upgrade to F12 from F10 and having problem with Skype mic audio. it was working well with F10 before.
I have try to plug in a mic for internal sound card and using external USB headse, both sources could not capture my mic audio. I try to use Gnome Volume preference to select the source and it makes no different. I also noticed the output volume is low on USB headset too
Just get it working on playing with Gnome Volume preference. I find that on headset input and output audio, I have to crank it up to 100% range to get it working. Volume control seems to be useful from 80-100% Problem solved, hope pulseaudio would improve the volume control
I basically want to record audio streams. The most useful purpose is to record conversations on skype (and other applications). This is for a legitimate reason if anyone is worried; I often have long conference calls on skype (an another voip collaborative tool called EVO), and a recording would be a nice way to keep minutes and participate in the working meeting. I'm not worried about capturing video yet. The audio is the important for me for now. This is going to display my woeful ignorance of Linux audio systems. I'm running F12 x86_64 on a Dell inspiron laptop. I believe that the system is using the PulseAudio sound server.
I thought something like:

Could work, but I don't have a /dev/dsp. I think these are in a separate directory /dev/snd; however the content of this directory is not clear which device is the appropriate one. I tried pointing ffmpeg to a few of them, but it resulted in errors thus:
/dev/snd/hwC0D0: no such file or directory
I know it's there because [tab] complete. I found another alternative which uses parec.
parec --format=s16le --rate=44100 -channels=2 sample.raw
Unfortunately this only records the microphone input and not everything else going through my sound server. I wish I could find the link again, but there was a third alternative which required writing a bit of C code. I thought that could be a nice little project to better acquaint myself with this stuff.
I'm using tcpdump and tcptrace to track all incoming and outgoing data packets through my network interfaces. But I fail to monitor the voip data for skype that way, although it works well with http port 80, for example.
I want to track the ip address of the data packets for skype, i.e. know the ip address of the other one speaking at the other end of skype. How can I achieve this?
I've checked the port setting in my skype and I'm sure I'm listening on the right port. But nothing is showing up while I'm in connection with skype.
I am unable to capture sound from the sound card. I used to be able to do this with ease in SuSE 10.0 and 11.2. Now I have 11.4 and not only do I NOT have access to the sound card's channels (for base, treble, turning the mic on/off, and line in, Analog Capture Boost, etc) but now I can't seem to get at the settings for capturing sound coming from the sound card. I have tried using the Alsa mixer by way of the terminal and went to the Capture section and turned all of the settings all the way up. I didn't see any settings for Capture Boost as was available with 11.2's Alsa mixer GUI. Here's more of my info:

Isn't there ANY GUI sound mixer available that will give me access to all the channels I require? I not only record sound from my sound card, but I also use my mic at times for Skype and I like to be able to turn it off when not in use, rather than unplugging it all the time. I used to be able to do this with 11.2 and 10.0 and I really liked it that way. BTW, the plug for the mic is in the back of the computer and it's not convenient to have to plug/unplug it from there each time. For some apps, it's just a good thing to have all the sound settings done and in place before starting up the app. This I cannot do right now because of the changes to KMix and the Alsa GUI. I really really don't like this at all.

It has a mic too.I can specify video input device as /dev/video0.I specified input audio device as /dev/dsp2 ( OSS device, corresponding to USB Webcam), Now VLC throws an error, "VLC is unable to open the MRL 'alsa:///dev/dsp2'. Check the log for details".Thinking it wants an alsa device, I specify device as /dev/snd/pcmC2D0c. (got it from kinfocenter and dolphin). Now again an error, "VLC is unable to open the MRL 'alsa:///dev/snd/pcmC2D0c'. Check the log for details.".I try with any device, the same error. I have added myself to audio device so that I can read/write to the mentioned devices.I see no way of switching VLC to use OSS. And I see no information (documentation on net) on it's expected device listing for audio.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently installed openSUSE 11.4-64bit on my Gateway desktop, and I can't seem to get my mic work at all. The mic is built into my Microsoft LifeCam Cinema webcam and works fine when I boot into Windows. The mic will not record sound in krecord or lame and doesn't work during Skype sessions.
According to the literature for the device driver my the mic should be supported, and that is evidenced by the fact that the mic shows up as a capture device in in kmix. I have made this mic the master channel under capture devices and I have given it highest preference amongst my capture devices in both the Communications and Accessibility categories of kmix's Settings/Audio Setup.

I've done my best to implement these fixes, but half of it looks like gibberish to me. All I was really able to do was update my alsa software and generate this comprehensive alsa.conf (its long, so I'll wait to post it until asked).
I've had since updating to 11.4, and I gotta say: I've been really impressed so far.
I have an Acer Aspire One netbook and have tried to enable my microphone without any luck. Surprisingly the Sound Recorder works perfectly but skype and ekiga are not able to transfer my voice. I have tried playing around with gnome ALSA mixer and PulseAudio Volume Control but nothin changes.

I was able to get it to work in the Sound Recorder Application and in the System Testing function, but when I do the Skype Test Call, or call someone with Skype, while I can hear the other person perfectly well, my microphone does not appear to work at all, so it is a strictly one way conversation.
I've made sure with the ALSA Mixer that everything is turned on, and all my sound settings are fine, but microphone won't work in Skype.
I have ubuntu 10.10 everything was OK, suddenly skype stopped working, tried the new version, but the same problem exist.

I'm really sick of not being able to ctrl+l or ctrl+tab just because I'm watching a video, and today a video froze in fullscreen mode and I couldn't even ctrl+f1 to any terminals or ctrl+backspace to kill KDE. It would be awesome to stop flash from grabbing certain key commands and pass them to the browser or OS instead.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm trying to use video call in skype or empathy, either is fine. Neither works. In Skype I can receive video but it doesn't broadcast mine at all. In empathy it shows my video right up to the second the call connects, then the 'video call' crashes.
edit: cam is definitely working (works fine in cheese and other cam apps) just not broadcasting

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to record a test video with my built-in webcam, using Cheese. However, after I click "Start recording," the Cheese screen turns black, and Cheese seems to hang. I can click "Stop recording" sometimes -- then I get a split-second video clip. But mostly it just hangs until I force quit.
I'm on an Asus 900HA. I could record video clips on using eeebuntu and Cheese. Is there a setting I need to check?
I have been searching for an answer through most of the recent posts about sound issues but have not been able to find a solution. I am currently unable to capture sound from the "Line" input on my sound card. I do have sound and is working correctly for all applications and I do have P/A disabled (I'm not a huge fan of the sound quality with P/A enabled). I have checked and re-checked many settings but to no avail have not been able to capture sound. I'm sure I may be missing something or have not done something in order for this to work. I was using openSUSE 11.4 on a different pc and had no problems, unfortunately this is a different pc with a different sound card which is on-board so I am not entirely familiar with it yet.
It is a C-media CMI9880 which shows up as a Intel HDA (ICH6) and appears to be configured correctly.
I need help in getting Skype to work with Debian Squeeze.The problem is that there's no 64 bit version of Skype for Debian Squeeze and the other versions (Skype static and Skype Ubuntu 64 bit) makes Skype crash after login. Is it possible to get the 32bit version of Skype working with Debian Squeeze and how about other solutions?

Well, my camera works perfectly in guvcview and in skype test (I already modified config.xml in my user dir to have 640x480, my cam is Ricoh r5870). OK, as soon as I start my video or I get itautomatically started it goes 320x240 and very bad. I turn it off during the call and I restart it: it works perfectly. Could I solve this issue by telling skype to open the video "just like if it were the second time" ?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a fresh install of openSUSE 11.4 with KDE. This includes ALSA and Pulseaudio.
I have a mic and speakers and a webcam. As far as I can see microphone and sound reproduction work, the webcam also works:
- I can arecord and aplay
- KMix works
- amixer and alsamixer work (I am using microphone boost)
- test sounds play
- the webcam works in "Personal Settings (Configure Desktop)": Hardware > Multimedia > Phonon (test camera)
- Pidgin and Empathy work with sound and video.
(had to set this: gconftool-2 --set --type=string /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/audiosrc pulsesrc,
without this setting it was set to alsasrc by default and Pidgin and Empathy didn't work).
I installed Skype 2.2 (also tried 2.1) and tested the video camera in Skype. Result: doesn't work.
I made a test call: I hear the voice of the lady answering the call, but my own voice is not recorded.
In Skype everything is set to use Pulseaudio.
I am at a total loss to understand what is going wrong here. Why does Skype not work, when everything else does??
I made this observation:
When an application records something, a "Capture stream" shows up in the KMix "Capture Streams" tab. For example, when I use arecord, "ALSA capture" shows up, while I record. When I make a call on Empathy, a capture stream shows up in the said tab.
When I make a Skype call, NO capture stream shows up, so obviously Skype is not capturing anything.
I have two sound devices, an internal audio device on my motherboard and an external USB devices, which came with my headset. After upgrading to 11.4, the microphone on my headset ceased to work with my softphone. As it turned out, the softphone used the standard input device, which was defined in the Phonon tab in the KDE System Settings. Unfortunately, when I put the USB Device on top of the default input stack, it doesn't stay there. When I apply the changes and leave the Phonon tab or even enable "Show advanced devices " the stack always resets to its initial order. I was unable to find any kind of config file where Phonon saves this settings.
