Jan 28, 2010I have a toshiba m305d satelite laptop
i installed ubuntu karmic 9.10 and evrything seems to be working fine including wireless and ethernet which was not working previously ..
but now with alsa my mic was not working and hence i uninstalled alsa and installes oss4 as was directed by other forums ..
however with alsa my sound was working in skype but now nothing seems to work ..
i am getting error as "problem with audio playback"
i am using skype 2.0 as 2.1 was said to be not compatible with oss4
also the sounds in my pdgin im client is not working ..
here is my component information code...
i have tried checking mic using ossrecord but dint get ne output..
i also tried sound recorder which also dint work with both alsa and oss4
now the thing is with oss4 even the speakers are not working for some applications like pdgin and skype which was working with alsa

Apr 3, 2011I can't use the webcam with skype. I followed the instructions on the SDB
Skype page of opensuse.org. I can make calls and recieve calls, but there
is no video option. Sound isn't going either way during the calls. In
Skype's options menu, there is a place to test the video. When I click on
the "Test" button, Skype freezes and eventually the terminate application
window comes up.
The webcam is a Logitech that works fine in Cheese, and I've used it with
previous versions of Opensuse and Skype. The only skype available that
I've found is the 2.1 beta version, so that's what I'm using. I'm using
Opensuse 11.4 with KDE4.

Aug 28, 2011I have a fresh install of openSUSE 11.4 with KDE. This includes ALSA and Pulseaudio.
I have a mic and speakers and a webcam. As far as I can see microphone and sound reproduction work, the webcam also works:
- I can arecord and aplay
- KMix works
- amixer and alsamixer work (I am using microphone boost)
- test sounds play
- the webcam works in "Personal Settings (Configure Desktop)": Hardware > Multimedia > Phonon (test camera)
- Pidgin and Empathy work with sound and video.
(had to set this: gconftool-2 --set --type=string /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/audiosrc pulsesrc,
without this setting it was set to alsasrc by default and Pidgin and Empathy didn't work).
I installed Skype 2.2 (also tried 2.1) and tested the video camera in Skype. Result: doesn't work.
I made a test call: I hear the voice of the lady answering the call, but my own voice is not recorded.
In Skype everything is set to use Pulseaudio.
I am at a total loss to understand what is going wrong here. Why does Skype not work, when everything else does??
I made this observation:
When an application records something, a "Capture stream" shows up in the KMix "Capture Streams" tab. For example, when I use arecord, "ALSA capture" shows up, while I record. When I make a call on Empathy, a capture stream shows up in the said tab.
When I make a Skype call, NO capture stream shows up, so obviously Skype is not capturing anything.

Apr 4, 2010Just recently installed Opensuse 11.2 in a KDE environment. The problem I am facing is that when I connect it to my network either via wired or wirless neither getting internet or access to the network although the network manager shows the connection as active
I am using a Dlink Di-524 Wireless Router at home
The Wirless router for the computer is Broadcom BCM 4312
Was able to install the drivers for this from the packman repository
Also when I connect my laptop directly to the internet connection via wired it is working fine. However if i connect it to my wireless router either over wifi or thru wired it just shows connected but i can neither access internet or other computers on the network.
Have checked the wireless router other computers (windows and ubuntu are being able to access the internet via it)
Results of my ifconfig-a command when i am connected over my wirless connection code...

Jun 19, 2010I have been an OpenSuse 11.2 user since the past 8 months. Recently I had a issue with the operating system and therefore had to re-install the OS again. However, since the fresh install, I have not been able to capture any sound from my laptop's microphone. This is weird because it used to work fine with OpenSuse 11.2 before I had to re-install the same OS again. Additionally I can assure that there are no issues with the hardware since it works fine with Windows 7. I have tried almost everything, but in vain.

I succeeded last night by using a pulseaudio config file to stop autospawning, but this kills volume management on many other apps as well. I just wrote a quick skype startup script to kill pulseaudio when skype is opened, and replace it when skype is closed, but I would rather have an autospawning exception for skype only. Is there a way to tell pulse audio not to autospawn for skype related processes only?

c)placed a php test file into my var/www folder
d)go to 127.0.0.1 in my browser and all I see is a blank page, when I should see the php info page.
So what the heck is wrong here? I figure it's just something I'm too noob to know, yet I can't find anything about it on the net...
Fedora :: Skype Stopped Working?

I tried removing it and reinstaling more than once now. the icon just sits there when clicked it does nothing. I have tried starting it from the applications folder same thing it does nothing. the program was working perfectly then it just stopped

Jan 5, 2010I am still struggling to get skype running on that platform, but it hardly works. First I tried to install skype-2.1.0.47-fc10.i586.rpm but it did not work, always ending in "Aborted (core dumped)".Then I found an entry in some forum and tried to use skype-2.1.0.47-fc9.i586. rpm, and it worked! I could make calls, the microphone was recognized and everything worked as it should be.
Until today. For reasons beyond my scope skype stopped working, and after I have looged in with my skype-name I got the above Aborted-message again. Even after the reboot of my Dell Laptop skype refused to work.I even installed all the recommended yum packages I found in this skype forum topic.Can anyone please advise me how to properly install a stable version of skype with Fedora 12? I searched the Fedora forums but did not use any useful entry.

Mar 2, 2010I've seen a couple of threads about recent issues with skype, but nothing like this. Since today my mic is not working in skype (it does work otherwise, for exmaple in sound recorder). I'm using F11 x64. Yesterday I upgraded to the last skype version, and today the mic wasn't working. I downgraded now, thinking that was the problem, but still the same issue, so maybe some update did this (I'm not sure if alsa or pulseaudio got any update yesterday or today).

Feb 27, 2010I'm having trouble with some qt-based apps that did work previously but now do not. So far I've seen this with Skype, VLC and umbrello. Applications appear to execute but GUI never seems to initialise. CPU remains around 90%. I'm using an eeepc 1000H running ubuntu intrepid 8.10 with adam's kernel 2.6.27-8-eeepc. Any ideas on how I can debug this? As I mentioned these applications worked fine in the past, I'm guessing an update broke them.

Oct 11, 2010I am using 8.04, Pulseaudio, Microsoft Lifechat USB headset and Skype on a Compaq 210. Pulse works fine for everything else. One day, it just stopped working for no apparent reason (only on the Skype mic) so I uninstalled and went back to ALSA (for a few reasons) but couldn't get that working either so now back to square one. When I boot Skype, all goes well, can place a test call, no errors. But on playback of the message it's pure fuzz, basically white noise, no sign of my voice. I've twiddled with just about every volume control and toggle I can find and then some, but nothing. Another interesting thing; Pulse is now NOT working unless I input 'pulseaudio -D' in a terminal after boot. Then it seems to be okay, 'cept the mic.
Strange as the mic works perfectly and crystal clear in Sound Recorder. No probs. So:
1/ How do I replace the recorded white noise in a Skype test call with my own mellifluous tones and;
2/ Where do I put 'pulseaudio -D' (what file) so it will be read and turn pulse on at boot?
Using Skype 2.1.0.47 (I know there is a newer version, .87 I think, but that was even more problematic). Another strange thing; the newer version (.87?) worked flawlessly for months before the mic just one day died (ONLY in Skype). As explained on my last thread; wife's uni/entertainment machine and me being the house computer dude, one of the reasons we use Linux is so I am not fixing Windows problems constantly. I only go near this machine when something goes pear-shaped so that is rarely. My wife doesn't tweak with her computer AT ALL.
Sound issues on this machine have been pretty much constant and I am really sick of it. I have two desktops running ALSA and Skype flawlessly with any USB headset AND they can ring incoming calls through the external speakers and you can take the call through the headset, something that is seemingly impossible for some reason in Pulse. Despite its bells and whistles, this is a serious oversight by Pulse developers in my opinion. (Unless I'm missing something and I've have searched for hours trying to fix THAT little mystery).

Jun 17, 2010I recently installed lucid Lynx in my laptop, everything works great except my WUSB54GC (v3) usb wireless adapter, the green light in the usb stick stays off and the OS don't recognize the USB either (i have been using it in WIN7 so i know its not broken)
reading previous post i tried the following:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Added a line

after restart it was recognized but only worked for a little while (with download speeds about 30kbps and disconnecting every 30 min or so ) today it wasn't working at all
I have also tried installing the driver provided by linksys using the "windows wireless drivers" obtained by ubuntu software center, no luck there

This morning I tried to login to Paltalk Express (http://express.paltalk.com), but when I was about to write my password suddenly the screen turned black, and couldn't do anything else. I tried erasing the private data on my browser, restarting the browser, reloading, but didn't work.
I tried removing and installing flash, but still the same.
