View 4 RepliesHere's a weird one and hoping there will be a fix. It took an age to get Skype working with Pulseaudio and a USB headset but I got there. Still can't get it to ring through the speakers but use the headset for a call, which you can with ALSA, but there you go. I sometimes wonder if Pulse as default was a step forward or back. Anyway, current prob. All working fine for about four months. The machine is regularly unplugged and moved no drama.I take it out one day, come home, plug in, make a test call, get no error messages about playback or input device, I can hear the test call fine, but my recorded message playback is dead air. Nothing. Silence.
Hmm. I check absolutely everything obvious then open 'Pulseaudio Volume (recording)' find the mic is working fine (I could also hear it through the headset but this told me the audio path for the mic was through Pulseaudio for sure). So I make another test call with the volume window up and there is a level while I am recording my Skype test call message, but on playback there is again silence!I'm bamboozled for the moment. This seems to have happened at random. Used Sound Recorder to record with the mic and no problem. Working fine.Just Skype seems to be not hearing the mic at all, even though Sound Devices is set to Pulseaudio (you have no choice with Pulse).
My skype has suddenly stopped working. It starts then stops halfway though the startup. If i run it from the terminal it say Aborted as it stops. I've triedupdating the whole system, including enabling thee and backports options in software sources. I've tried re-installing skype, I've even re-installed the whole system.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am still struggling to get skype running on that platform, but it hardly works. First I tried to install skype-2.1.0.47-fc10.i586.rpm but it did not work, always ending in "Aborted (core dumped)".Then I found an entry in some forum and tried to use skype-2.1.0.47-fc9.i586. rpm, and it worked! I could make calls, the microphone was recognized and everything worked as it should be.
Until today. For reasons beyond my scope skype stopped working, and after I have looged in with my skype-name I got the above Aborted-message again. Even after the reboot of my Dell Laptop skype refused to work.I even installed all the recommended yum packages I found in this skype forum topic. Can anyone please advise me how to properly install a stable version of skype with Fedora 12? I searched the Fedora forums but did not use any useful entry.
I've seen a couple of threads about recent issues with skype, but nothing like this. Since today my mic is not working in skype (it does work otherwise, for exmaple in sound recorder). I'm using F11 x64. Yesterday I upgraded to the last skype version, and today the mic wasn't working. I downgraded now, thinking that was the problem, but still the same issue, so maybe some update did this (I'm not sure if alsa or pulseaudio got any update yesterday or today).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire One netbook and have tried to enable my microphone without any luck. Surprisingly the Sound Recorder works perfectly but skype and ekiga are not able to transfer my voice. I have tried playing around with gnome ALSA mixer and PulseAudio Volume Control but nothin changes.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI had difficulty getting my internal microphone -
p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; } card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC272 Analog [ALC272 Analog]

I was able to get it to work in the Sound Recorder Application and in the System Testing function, but when I do the Skype Test Call, or call someone with Skype, while I can hear the other person perfectly well, my microphone does not appear to work at all, so it is a strictly one way conversation.
I've made sure with the ALSA Mixer that everything is turned on, and all my sound settings are fine, but microphone won't work in Skype.
I love new Ubuntu 10.10. However, despite my best efforts, I cannot make sound recorder/skype work. That is, microphone would not simply record any sound. My mother board is Asus M2N68-AM.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm trying to use video call in skype or empathy, either is fine. Neither works. In Skype I can receive video but it doesn't broadcast mine at all. In empathy it shows my video right up to the second the call connects, then the 'video call' crashes.
edit: cam is definitely working (works fine in cheese and other cam apps) just not broadcasting
I have been using Skype 2.2 beta on Ubuntu 11.04 using a Logitech 260 camera/microphone -- all with excellent results -- for the past couple of weeks.Today, for some reason unknown to me, my Skype contacts began telling me that my audio was nearly unintelligible, though I had no problem hearing them. I initially thought the problem was at their end; but then I did a test call and listened to the play-back of my own voice recording, and it was awful. It's sounds like I'm speaking under water with a buzzing sound in the background, and the words are barely audible.I wish somebody could tell me what's going on. I do not recall changing anything on my sound system. I wonder whether the problem is with Skype or Ubuntu 11.04 or my own machine (which is brand new

Flash was working perfect until one of the last software updates. Now all I get is "The Adobe Flash plugin has crashed."
I tried running:
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer and got the following message"
Quote:
Reading package lists... Done

E: Couldn't find package flashplugin-installer
If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated. I'd really like to get Flash working again before I build a new box and upgrade to 10.04.
I have been using this fine tuner, however some days ago it wouldn't open any more.In the console I get the following:

Getting a little tired of applications working one day but not the next....this morning it's devede. Firstly it somehow VANISHED from the system...all on it's own. Then when I reinstalled it, it spits this guff out...........
yesterday it was mplayer...I watched a view videos...and then it just started segfaulting on every video including the ones it just played. As such as well as any advice re: devede I would like to hear how to turn all ubuntu's sneaky background crap off so it acts like linux and not windows.
in 10.10 my internal audio and my external usb 5.1 soundcard worked fine, and everything was still ok after i upgraded to 11.04. i then tried to install an equaliser called "alsaequal" which required the alsa-driver-1.0.24 package, which i compiled ok. now i've lost all sound and can only see dummy output listed in sound preferences, and no hardware is detected.
sudo aplay -l doesn't detect anything either! i've folled all the steps on the sticky thread in multimedia, i tried purging and reinstalling all the alsa packages which didnt work, and then tried compilling alsa source packages, which wound up with errors. i was following this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1725874 which suggested running the alsa-info.sh script. i ran this and uploaded the output here:961380d1e9d23fi dont really understand any of this, but it seems to have detected my internal pci card but not my usb card.any help would be really appreciated after the hours spend fruitlessly trawling through these forums
i have sound but my mic capture seems to be not working in skype or well anything else and I'm confused on what to do after searching. It's an integrated mic somewhere in my laptop. I enabled capture in Kmix but that didn't seem to do anything.

I have been running X applications over my ssh connection for a long time using the command ssh -Y servername.example.com -p 222 . About a week ago, I noticed that it no longer works. I also tried ssh -X servername.example.com -p 222 but again, no success.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've a issue on Skype 2.1 beta, my Ubuntu version is Karmic Koala. Well, my camera works perfectly in guvcview and in skype test (I already modified config.xml in my user dir to have 640x480, my cam is Ricoh r5870). OK, as soon as I start my video or I get itautomatically started it goes 320x240 and very bad. I turn it off during the call and I restart it: it works perfectly. Could I solve this issue by telling skype to open the video "just like if it were the second time" ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an HP dvd1040 lightscribe DVD/CD burner. All through 8.10-9.04 it worked flawlessly. I used DeVeDe to convert tons of stuff and it always burned no problem. Same with my data discs of .jpgs and audio cds. I used Brasero mostly, because there were never any problems.
All that changed with my upgrade to 9.10 Now, the same burner simply will not work with any program. It will read a CD fine and it recognizes blank media, but every time I try to burn something, it fails. I've gone through Brasero, K3B, Gonmebaker, Xfburn. Every one returns an error.
When I attempt to burn, eacj of these programs starts the process and I can hear the drive spinning. It will spin, stop, spin, stop...
I've noticed lots of people having problems with burning and 9.10 but I thought I would ask about specifics with my HP drive.
I just upgraded from 8.10 to 9.10 and now my sound doesn't work (note: I don't know if sound was working on 9.4, since I only ran that long enough to upgrade again) Sound was working just fine under 8.10, and I just tried booting up with a livecd I had handy, which is 8.04.1 and sound worked right off the bat, no problems.I've checked the volumes on everything, including the master volume which WAS initially set to 0.Sadly, turning that up did nothing. The Pulseaudio Volume Control app seems to think nothing's wrong- it's picking up the sound from various applications just fine, the volumes are all on, etc. (aplay lists my soundcard fine:

I tried upgrading from Jaunty to Karmic, which borked booting on that partition. I made a fresh install of Karmic on another partition which is booting fine, but I can't get Audio CDs to work, period. They worked in Jaunty and every release before that I had installed. Data CDs work fine in Karmic. I'm using plain ol' Ubuntu 32bit. I'm not sure where to start. There have been other threads where other people had identical symptoms. Either the problem went away mysteriously on its own, or they gave up because nobody believed them. In any case, I'm beginning to wish I had stuck with Jaunty.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running 9.10 and I've being using skype for months with no issues, but today my microphone isn't working. I've tested the physical microphone on another machine and it works fine. I've tried skype, sound recorder and neither gets any input. I also have webcam and the microphone on that isn't working either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if anyone is having a similar problem as mine when running Hulu Desktop. The application starts fine, but when I try to select anything to watch, the green progress bar continually resets over and over again as it tries to buffer a video, and playback never starts as a result. This happens for low, medium, and high quality. Hulu Desktop was working perfectly fine a few months ago. I've always been running Ubuntu 9.10 (64-bit) with the latest 64-bit Flash pluggins, and didn't have a problem before. Running Hulu Desktop from the command line doesn't reveal any error messages either.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using the 10.04 Netbook Edition on an ASUS EeePC 1005HA. Earlier, I had 9.10 Netbook Remix installed. Under 9.10NR, the webcam worked wonderfully in Cheese. Once I upgraded to 10.04NE, the webcam became sluggish to the point where it is now unusable. In video mode it captures about 1 frame per five seconds. Under 9.10NR, it regularly captured 60 fps.
Did the driver package for webcams change significantly between 9.10 and 10.04? I can't think of anything else that would cause this issue due to an OS upgrade.
In the last week, I noticed that my compaq 6710b physical controls for volume control/mute stopped working correctly. The volume control is not working anymore and the mute "unmutes" itself after precisely 1 minute.
I was wondering:
1/ did an update modify anything
2/ is there a way for me to know if the problem is physical? like a physical signal sniffer of some sort, or a log that indicates that I pressed mute
3/ Am I alone? and if not, does anyone know of a workaround?

My sound in Lucid was working fine (for months), and then, for no obvious reason, it stopped working today. I get no sound from any application. I have no idea what could have changed on my system to cause this. When I re-boot Lucid, the login sound plays, and sound works briefly, but it always stops eventually after I login.I am overwhelmed by the large number of different Ubuntu sound problem fixes
