I have downloaded a film from a commercial TV station for my own use and want to edit out all the advertising breaks. I have tried Cinelerra but I cannot find a means of deleting selected frames, I also looked at trying to use Kdenlive but cannot find a way of loading the complete film to work on so unable to tell whether it might be useful.

I tried exporting a frame with Kino, editing with GIMP, and then re-inserting it into Kino, but Kino rejected the attempt.
Will Kino do this, or do I need to be using something else?
i want to connect two videos into one. let's take two videos from videos as an example. i want my final video to have the height = height of first video + height of second video and width = max(width of first video, width of second video). in the upper part the first video is played whereas in the lower part the second video is played.
do you know how to do it under linux, the best possibility while using mencoder, ffmpeg or any other command line command?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm getting dropped frames from both Digital8 & MiniDV camcorders using Kino. MyCPU doesn't seem to be spiking. I've made sure compiz is disabled and no memory/cpu hungry apps are running. I'm using SATA drives so DMA shouldn't be the issue.
The video and audio that is captured seems to be fine.

I have Ubuntu 11.04 on a Dell Studio XPS 1640 with ATI graphics and the fglrx driver. It's a powerful machine and I've had no problem what so ever to watch full hd videos on windows 7 but all videos, no matter the resolution, has a very small stutter which is annoying but not making the videos unviewable. But I'd prefer not having it at all. I have tried setting the VLC video output to x11 but there is no difference. It's a screen tearing problem, that was fixed by setting the option "Tear Free" on in ATI Catalyst Control Center.

However the main tar.gz files (ex: 20101001.tar.gz) does not contain all sub dirs every time (ex: 20101001.tar.gz may only contain some ftp server log dirs etc..)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was able to build a NFS server and a NFS client using OpenSuse 11.3 and connect them together using gigabit ethernet through a switch. These are the only 2 devices on this net (192.168.1.xx). I tried to set the MTU to 9000 and 9014 but learned that the Realtek 8169/8111 only support up to about 7200 MTU. So I inserted Intel NIC cards on both and set both to 9000. The system accepts this and I can ssh from one machine to the other. Both NFS client and server start w/o issue and the client mounts the device just fine. But when I try to copy a file on the NFS client from the local disk to the server, the client just hangs and I have to physically turn the machine off in order to get it to work. Both systems are using the stock software from the DVD (I didn't update either).

i installed openSuse in my vmware Workstation tryed differnt screen-sizes. for example here is a perfect display quality with a res of 1024x768: but if i change the res to 2560x1600 i get really ugly results. is there a setting to avoid the resizing of windows like firefox or dolphin /fixing the dpi?
Is it possible to prevent "unable to connect" messages from appearing instead of blocked web-content? I am using a huge hosts file to block unwanted web content from appearing. The attachment illustrates what I am referring to.

- Menus failed to activate when selected with Mouse Pointer
- X or - in the upper right corner of any window or program was not selective.
Things just weren't working right.
To fix this I removed the NVIDIA material from Synaptic.
Completely removed the following packages:
dmraid
jockey-common
jockey-gtk
nvidia-173-modaliases
[Code].....
Right now, if you were to open Synaptic and select "Not Installed" and search NVIDIA nothing is installed!
Once removed! and I'm using the safe mode generic drivers I have no desktop issues. My mouse, menus and desktop work just fine.
Now I can install the NVIDI 185ver but my issues with the desktop and menus comes back. However there seems to be some driver updates 190v and 195v, but I can't get them to install.
Right now I don't care what Driver I use just as long as there are no desktop issues.

I've recently got a HDTV LCD display (BenQ SD3742), and a nettop (Acer revo 3610) to go with it. I connected them using an HDMI cable, and I installed the latest Ubuntu 10.04 64 bits edition.I then installed the latest nvidia drivers (nvidia-current package, which is nvidia-glx-195) to support nVidia ION platform using this ppa: https://launchpad.net/~nvidia-vdpau/+archive/ppaAccording to various websites, my LCD is FullHD, so I should be able to select 1920x1080 resolution. But the automatically selected resolution is 1280x768, and in nVidia configuration panel, this resolution is stated as being "native resolution" for my screen (its name is correctly detected by Ubuntu, by the way!).If I select 1920x1080 and "Apply", the resolution is changed but the borders of my desktop are not available... and the image looks deformed anyway.Is there any way to make Ubuntu to detect properly this LCD display in its real native resolution (FullHD, 1920x1080)?

I would like to add the option mem=4096M to make some software works. but as long as I try with more than 512M, I have the error: error 28 selected item cannot fit into memory.
I have recently installed 11.2 on my laptop and am having problems with installing flashplayer. What happens is I go to install software, select flashplayer to be installed, click apply and the stupid things starts downloading all the upgradable programs. I have not selected any of these to be upgraded as I only have 600mb of downloading left to last me 10 days and won't waste it on upgrading. Is there a reason for the package manager installing programs that aren't selected?? Is there a way to use Install Software without this happening??

I have a stalker that keeps sending me disgusting emails on my primary gmail address, which I also use for work. He got my contact from a friend of mine (she was unaware he is mental i guess). Needless to say I replied a few times demanding he'd stop his cr@p, first in a polite way then even with insults and threatening to go to the police (but he is in another country so that's not a strategy I can use. Additionally in the country he lives - which is my native country - by law there is no restrain order unless there is first a personal attack and plus even in that case you have to get lawyers and pay lots of money for a court order).
Anyway, of course I already set up a filter in my gmail address that sends his cr@p right to the trash, and blocked him from any contact I have on the internet (Skype and Facebook). But I would like to pretend that my address does not exist any more or is not accepting emails any more by bouncing back a failure message so that this idi0t can stop once and for all. This disgusting email flood has been going on for almost a year.
I googled and found 3 windows apps that do that ( Bounce Email Spam Messages Back to Spammers with Non-Delivery Notifications | Raymond.CC Blog ) but I have not been able to find anything for Linux.
Does anyone know of any way to have a failure email bouncing back?
I recently installed SuSE 11.1 (64 bit) on my system
AMD Phenom II 940 3.0 Ghz;Biostar TA790GX 128M Motherboard with ATI Radeon HD 3300 Graphics card built in;
4 Gb (2*2 sticks) DDR2 800 MHz RAM
The installation went smoothly, But on first restart and login (and subsequent ones too!) I get a light purple screen with a skyblue box at top left corner, with xconsole written on it. when I Left click anywhere on the screen, I get a popdown with a number of options, of which only XTerm (bash shell) and exit (logout) options work. Now I know the HD 3300 graphics card drivers are not built into the SuSE 11.1 distribution, and I have already downloaded them (Linux ones)from ATI website. I login as Superuser, and type init 3 to go to a very basic screen,login as user, change to superuser again and then run the following file i downloaded from ATI:

The result/output at the command prompt:

Also I tried making changes via sax2 command, it doesnt seem to work. A window opens where I see that my graphics card has been detected but thats about it. nothing else in that option, everything is greyed out (nothing to be selected)

What else do I have to configure so xine can access the DVD drive?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had the above message when I first installed openSuse and tried to play DVDs. I tried googling the above message, thinking that I was missing some software. It turned out that the message simply meant that it couldn't find the dvd.
Messages such as:
Cannot find plugin for MRL [cdda:/]
Cannot find plugin for MRL [dvd:/]
Basically mean that SuSE is having problems finding a cd or dvd. This is most likely due to symbolic links for cdrom and/or dvd not being present.
I was having this problem on Kaffeine. Also having problems playing dvds on smplayer and VLC player.
I found the answer to the problem on the following thread (all credit to jdmcdaniel3 for the key initial post), which does a very thorough job of explaining about the 70-persistent-cd.rules file, where to find it, and what you can do with it.

The thread explains how to edit the 70-persistent-cd-rules file or, better, to create a copy called 90-persistent-cd.rules and edit that file to add symbolic link entries for cdrom and/or dvd if they are missing. Doing this it is possible for the cdrom and dvd symbolic links to point to the same physical drive or to different drives, depending on what you wish to do.
Kaffeine seems to expect to find things in cdrom and dvd. It will work once you have set up the symbolic links for these as described in the above post.
If you simply look at the 70-persistent-cd.rules file, you will see the symbolic links allocated to the cd/dvd drive(s) on your system. If you make a note of these symbolic link values you can use them to set the drive information in applications such as smplayer or VLC player :
VLC player - go into Media/Open Disc and set the drive accordingly, depending on whether you are playing a cd or dvd. Needs to be done each time you play a cd or dvd.
I think creating the 90-persistent-cd.rules file as mentioned above and adding the entry for cdrom and/or dvd may work for other cd/dvd playing software that expects to find these links, but I haven't tested running anything other than smplayer, VLC player and Kaffeine. These cover my requirements.
Following the above I am now able to play cds and dvds in my cd and dvd drive respectively.
I've been running a java-based audio player for years and it works just fine on 11.2. When I run the exact same software on 11.3 it plays the first track of an album and then fails to play any subsequent track - with no apparent error message. It pretends to play it, advancing the progress bar correctly, but no sound is heard.Having looked for explanations on the web I found a claim that java based programs (at least Sun java 1.6) do not work well with pulse audio. Does 11.3 use pulse audio as a default?
Assuming it does, the solution suggested was to run java via padsp. I am not sure that this is the problem in my case - but I am happy to give it a try. However, I can't seem to find padsp anywhere. It is not available from the community repositories. Where can I get hold of it?
Thi sused to work on 11.1 but since installing 11.2 it has failed. Whenever I start sound-juicer it reports that it cannot find a CD -- there is actually a CD and a DVD. This is the case as a user or as root. I can read a CD with cdparanoa and also grip, but the metadata fron s-j is better as far as I can tell.

I have installed (via YaST) both videoporama and mjpegtools. I can see that mjpegtools 1.9.0-3.1 is installed. The lavrec and lavplay are also in the /usr/bin directory. However, the videoporama cannot find the mjpegtool and the videoporama is unable to do any thing.The videoporama seems to be the program that can do what I want to be done. View 5 Replies View RelatedNot sure when this first happened but I suspect it was just a couple of days ago. I had installed DeVeDe to burn some video to disc and it all worked fine but now when I try to run DeVeDe it says it can't find mplayer and you have to quit. I've tracked this back to mplayer and I'm getting this error from mplayer:
mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libvdpau.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory libvdpau is installed so I don't know why it can't find the library.
I see there are issues with vdpau and nvidia but this shouldn't be affecting me should it??
OK, I have a strange problem with openSUSE 11.3 K3B and Nero will both find my CD drives after a reboot, but after the system has been running a while neither one can detect the drives. FWIW, I don't have this problem in 11.4 M5.
View 8 Replies View RelatedTitle says it all. I have an OpenSuse 11.2 KDE 4 64 bit system. I'd like to run Clementine as an audio player but can't find an RPM that will install on my system. Please don't suggest I update to 11.4 since KDEPIM is still unusable in that version. (11.2 is the latest version with a fully functional KDEPIM including distribution lists) I'd gladly install Amarok 1.4 but then I'd need to add KDE3 to this system.
