Once in a while I stumble on this (after I install something which probably conflicts). I was able with the sticky notes to correct the problem few times but this time is a bit more complicated at least for me.What is strange is that I cannot find the ALSA-Configuration.txt in my system.
View 9 RepliesI have recently been forced to do a hardware upgrade (my previous mobo died). Now, sounds works ok with,amarok because kde has recognized the new hardware and switched to it.
..... does not work, likely because flash uses alsa-oss which is probably not configured automatically. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both alsa-oss and flash, but it didn't solve the problem.
I'm trying to record a video with sound through FFmpeg, and while it records the system sounds just fine, it doesn't record the microphone (in fact, it crashes on doing so!). The strange thing is that if I use arecord, it works just perfectly, but through ffmpeg it crashes.This is the command that I use to launch FFmpeg:

The problem is that banshee mutes sound for other apps like flash, the solution is to select alsa for the devices in audio preferences... but don't have that in the list, only "internal audio analog stereo".
This wasn't a problem until i made some updates and got broken sound, to fix it i used the AlsaUpgrade script. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 by the way.
I have just installed OpenSuse 11.4 with XFCE environment on my Acer Aspire 5738Z.
Everytime I boot, I need to configure manually the "capture device" with Alsamixer to change it from "micro" to "internal micro".
I tried to save the settings using alsactl store/restore as I do with Ubuntu, but it doesn't work. Every time I restart my computer, the capture is on "micro" again.
how to save the settings permanently ?
I'm trying to update ALSA, following the instructions here: SDB:Alsa-update - openSUSE.I'm not sure how to proceed at STEP THREE. There are two sets of instructions, based on whether or not the kernel has been updated. I'm not sure if it has been. How can I make sure?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a E-MU 0202 USB soundcard that I want to use as a input for my Debian Squeeze 6.0.1. Stock squeeze (kernel 2.6.32-5-686, version 2.6.32-31) has alsa-driver 1.0.21 as kernel modules and alsa-utils 1.0.23. The E-MU needs 1.0.23+ alsa driver, with 1.0.21 it loads in alsa but is not functional (no input) So I tried to install the 1.0.23 modules with module assistant: m-a update && m-a prepare m-a a-i alsa I left all conf-files (like /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf) standard. When I now connect the E-MU device, my whole system becomes unresponsive (to keyboard/mouse), and I get the following messages in my console: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 61s! [modprobe:1292] Also, when I start top before connecting, I can see modprobe process taking 100% for a few minutes before system freezes completely. It did generate an oops once: [URL].... Does anybody here have any ideas how to get this working?

I did this in hopes of getting sound in Fusion 3.63 to work.
Now, when I try to go to System > Preferences > Sound, it just says "Waiting for sound system to respond" and just hangs there until I hit cancel.
Also, when I plug-in my headphones, it plays through the headphones AND the system speakers.
1. I run Suse 11.2 with two sound cards , one HDA comes with motherboard and second is USB, which I use for skype and talking. In YAST everything is fine the motherboard card is marked as prime card and the usb card is marked as second. But often when I log in alsa decides that second card is main and I have to pull out the USB card, run command "rcalsasound restart" and put the USB back afterward. It is a way that to be fixed in the way that alsa remember my choices forever. 2. The other problem is that from time to time the sound suddenly dies and I have to bring it up with rcalsasound restart again.
But I have to admit that their significant improvement with managing sound with PulseAudio.
I've got sound - I hear all the system sounds, I can play sound files, CDs, etc. But I have not been able to record and play back anything with success.
Originally, when I would record (either with arecord or with audacity) I would get extremely low quality sound, with lots of noise and crackling, and my recorded voice was barely audible (even with volume turned up to max). I played with alsamixer for hours without being able to improve matters.
Things are worse now. I tried installing alsa-firmware, as indicated at SDB:Audio troubleshooting - openSUSE. I also tried updating alsa following instructions given at SDB:Alsa-update - openSUSE. I'm not sure which of these changes did it, but the result is that I can no longer record ANYTHING at all. I get absolutely nothing, not even the low quality noise and crackling I was getting before. It's as if there is no audio input at all.
Uninstalling alsa-firmware and reverting back to the older alsa version (1.0.20) didn't change a thing.
I'm running openSUSE 11.2, kernel 2.6.31.14-0.6-desktop, alsa 1.0.20. My sound card is a Creative X-Fi (by the way, yast cannot detect my card, another problem I have never solved).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just installed OS 11.3 onto a lenovo desktop / Thinkcentre that previously had vista installed on it. With Opensuse I am having trouble getting much sound volume. With Vista the volume was fine but with Opensuse I have PCM, Master running pretty much on full. This gives me a respectable volume but I think there should really be more left in the tank from what I have it at. Is there any way to increase the gain in Alsa? The sound device shows in KDE as HDA Intel (AD198x) using xine backend.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI would like your input please. I'm using an HP DV7 laptop and the sound works under Opensuse 11.2 but without base. I have therefore updated ALSA to version 1.0.22.1 to make use of the introduced base switch for DV7 (ALSA changelog here)
I have tried these ALSA options but without any change / improvement to the base sound.
options snd-hda-intel=hp-dv5 and also hp-dv7 and hp_dv7
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1
Any ideas?
The second line stops the sound from "stuttering" but the first seem to have no effect.
Every time I boot into my laptop, there is no sound. Going to alsamixer in a terminal shows that the "Speaker" volume is constantly getting reset to 0, and bringing it back up fixes the problem. How can I get Alsa to remember to keep the speaker volume above 0?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 5.1-speaker set, confed succesfully with alsa. alsamixer -c 0 -command shows volume of all the speakers I want to set up. My problem is, when I have alsamixer open and change main volume from gnome-panel (it's called pavucontrol for me, pulseaudio?) it "resets" all speakers to max (100%). Only master volume changes like planned. For example, if I have front speakers set to 50%, center to 75%, surround to 100%, subwoofer to 40%, when changing volume from gnome's panel it only changes master volume, and puts every other speaker to max. I apologize to the membership, I realize now the absurdity of this subject. Having now studied the online repository search functions closer, I see it appears packages are automatically retrieved with all necessary dependencies. As such, it is not necessary to use apt and its various functions to do the job.
Does anyone know of an alsa based software multi-band (10 or more) graphic audio frequency equalizer that works with Suse 11.x? To be clear, I don't mean an equalizer within an audio or video player. One that can be used with any sound application, that works between the output of the player and the output plugs on a motherboard or sound card.

I'm trying to load ICC profile after user login. I needs to be executed by root before starting users KDE/Gnome/... session. Loading ICC profile requires running X, so /etc/init.d would not work. I have an encrypted partition which shows up in Dolphin file browser.But as a non-root user, I cannot unlock and mount it. A message in Dolphin comes up saying that a policy prohibits this.
