OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Xonar DG Not Detected?
Jun 5, 2011It seems my Xonar soundcard is not detected by Suse, is there anything I can do about this?

View 9 RepliesI've just brought a Asus Xonar DG and put it in my case - and found out that it's about the only card that is not easy to get working.I've updated my ALSA to 1.0.24 using this how-to. Then I reinstalled pulse with all the utilities and got it to look like working, with one problem only: no sound is output.I use Rythmbox for playback. In pavucontrol the bar below the soundcard output indicates that there's something playing, but no sound gets to my headphones. Has anyone encountered that? I've tried nearly all combinations of setting the output devices in various places like Sound settings and pavucontrol, but none worked.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Xonar D2X. Wonderful thing - recording from mic and quality of output to speakers is superb... on my Windows install. : /
It appears to work correctly in Kubuntu 10.10 as when I open up Sound and Video configuration, I can see it listed correctly and when I hit "Test", I get the annoying Ubuntu tinkle-plonk. But no application I use seems willing to use it. In fact, both Optical Outs (the motherboard's and the soundcards) are working fine when I try playing a test sound from this panel, but neither seems to be output to by VLC, Spotify or anything else I've tried.
I have set the entry "Xonar D2X Multichannel (IEC958 (S/PDIF)) Digital Audio Output to the preferred option for all output. Silence.
How do I convince VLC, Spotify et al, that the card really is there and they're really, really welcome to use it?
I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 x32, and after some research I haven't succeed getting my soundcard to work.Soundcard is detected but not sound comming from speakers. This is what aplay -l says:

I just got a Xonar D1 (chipset CMI 8788 ).
It partially works but I got a couple of issues (using 10.04 x86-64). I use it with a Stereo headphones and a mic.
1) It only outputs in 7.1/5.1 mode and only on the left headphone. If I reselect 7.1/5.1 while an audio stream is playing then I get stereo back. I've checked with Ubuntu 10.10 live CD and apparently the left channel is mapped to front, while the right is mapped to sub-woofer. How can I fix this?
2) The mic doesn't work. When I select the Xonar D1, I can choose between Analog Input, Analog Line In and Analog Microphone. When I switch between those I can hear a click coming from my pc, as if something HW is switching. I tried playing around with alsamixer but it doesn't work. Any idea how to make the mic work?
Ubuntu 10.10 x64 worked out of the box for me but there is one irritating issue.
I have Xonar DS(Oxygen HD Audio) with analogue 2.1 speakers and spdif passthrough to nvidia GTX260 hdmi output for my tv.
It makes random cracking noise on tv unless something is played, no matter on analogue or digital output, then is noiseless.
Alsa 1.0.23, kernel 2.6.35
I recently bought a decent sound card, the Asus xonar D1. Prior to purchase, I checked the Alsa matrix to make sure that it is supported. I couldn't get it to work after putting it in, so I did a clean install of Suse 11.2. Initially, it didn't work, but after I installed alsa-firmware, it worked. However, flash videos had no sound. I remembered something about this when I fist installed 11.2 with my older card. I looked it up and figured out that it was the PCM issue. However, when I opened kmix, there ws no PCM mixer. I even looked through the "hidden" mixers, making them all visible and maxing each out all without success.
Next, I started the "SDB:AudioTroubleshooting" process. When I got to step 2, I deleted the configurations of the xonar card configuration in Yast. I rebooted and lost all sound. I then started over with the "SDB:AudioTroubleshooting" and could not get anything, though I have not gone through updating Alsa, as I hope it is not necessary.

I have installed opensuse 11.4 in my lenovo ideapad G460. But, I am not being able to make the inbuilt microphone work. It does not record anything and also does not work in skype. I am not that expert with linux. I looked at different posts in this forum regarding microphone detection problem, bit could not follow. How to setting up my inbuilt microphone?

I have a Xonar DS, specifically the card with the lspci line
Code: Select all03:05.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CMI8788 [Oxygen HD Audio]
this card has worked for years on an ubuntu 12.04 installation. It worked on ubuntu 14.04 (but then I got fed up with the U thing and moved to Debian Wheezy). So on Wheezy, sometimes this card is recognized by Alsa, but sometimes not. After a reboot the card may be present or not. The modules that are supposed to know about this card (snd_oxygen, snd_virtuoso) are loaded in either case but are not used.
I'm hoping some smart boffin around here could help me getting my asus xonar DX (PCI-e) working in debian 5. iv searched the net.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu 10.04 and set up ALSA and got my DS working perfectly.I booted back into Windows with the intention of playing some BC2, and discovered anytime sound tries to play, it's all screwed (I can still make out some of what is being said but it's pretty bad). Naturally my first reaction would be to go into the Xonar audio center, which I did, and made sure nothing was wrong there. I changed settings around (sample rate and changing from headphone to 2 channel) but nothing worked. Turned off the D3SD GX and that didn't work either. Removed the drivers, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted. No change.
One thing I noticed is under the Windows sound control panel it doesn't show I'm playing anything when I am. However when I go into advanced and use the test option (and set it to the highest option available) it sounds fine.Under Ubuntu it also sounds fine. I've got volume set to around 50% in Ubuntu. I noticed when I muted it under Ubuntu and rebooted it was muted under Windows, hence my thought that the volume settings were messing things up. Didn't work though.Pulled the card out and left it out for a few minutes worked. Quite strange.
I have just upgraded my box to be more multimedia friendly and one of the upgrades was to improve the sound card. I decided to get the Asus Xonar DX pci-e card. I have it working but the speakers are not plugged into the front output socket as the xonar dx only plays sound from side surround output. Will the sound be any better from the front out on my 2.0 speaker system or is the sound being directed out of the side surround out full quality? How to overcome this discrepancy?

Ive seen this question allot but not exactly like my issue, MY usb mic AK5370 is unrecognized AT ALL and lsusb wont run. I just installed 9.10 and it wasnt seen on 9.04 either.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIf I put an Audio CD in my CD-ROM drive, then try to open Sound Juicer, I get an error saying that Sound Juicer cannot find any CD-ROM Drives to read. I can't rip my audio cd.
Similar attempts in K3b yielded similar results, albeit differently worded error messages.
I gotta say that Ubuntu 9.10 is a fantastic OS. I've been dual booting for about 4 years with Ubuntu and I want to scream to the world that Linux is finally a better OS than Mac or Windows. Having said that, I have an issue that I can't get around...
For some reason my USB headset is not being detected. I'm using the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 9.10 on a run-of-the-mill Intel-based desktop rig that I built myself. One of the mass-market programs that I still use is Skype so I can voice chat with friends and family - however, since the upgrade to 9.10 I can't get the mic to work (Plantronics USB headset - headset speakers work fine). The reason I can't get it to work is because the headset is not detected. The audio setting is set to "Analog Stereo Output" by default which does work perfectly in every other way.
Ive just installed a fresh 10.04, and my Xfi- Xtreme Music card isnt showing up ion the sound options.Ive tried installing the latest alsa using the script thing, and its still not showing up.

I'm using Kubuntu 10.04. I've got a Samson Q1U usb microphone I want to use in Audacity for recording.
Unfortunatly, the microphone isn't registering on my computer.
I can use a usb mouse on the usb port, so I think the port works and the microphone worked on my friends PC, so the mic is fine.
When I plug it in the light on the microphone goes on for about 10 seconds then goes off.
Here's some output:
And the following, showing my ports:
The microphone is not showing up on either...
I was using the microphone fine a couple years ago with audacity, I think I was on Hardy Heron at the time (not that the upgrade to lucid was necessarily was what did it...) I haven't changed any hardware since then besides adding a little additional ram.
I am running debian testing dist-upgraded to sid with the latest gnome-shell. All is fine, I have recently moved to a new house and noticed that network manager wont detect my home wireless network. It does scan for networks and locates SSIDS from other local networks including my neighbours wifi where I can connect but will not detect mine. The modem router used is a zte quite popular in Greece and I have the broadcom wl driver installed. By the way since it is a dual boot machine - nasty win7 connect just fine and so does my mobile phone...
View 3 Replies View Relatedsome days ago I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 and now I have a problem with my webcam. I like to use chatroulette and mebeam, therefore I have to use programs like webcamstudio/flashcam... (Flash does not accept the normal cam device v4l2 and webcamstudio puts it to v4l loopback). The problem is that Ubuntu is detecting only v4l2 and not v4l, so that I don't have an output device in webcamstudio.
When I type:

I've had my ipod, it would auto detect fine with gtkpod and load perfectly.
Now, as of a couple days ago, my computer won't even detect my ipod..
It's a 2nd Generation Shuffle and I'm running Lucid Lynx.
I have an 8gb Sansa Fuze, filled with mp3s only. Although it appears in rhythmbox, the songs don't. Plus I can't even access it as a hard drive I've been using it with Winamp when I was still using XP, if that matters.
EDIT: seems like it was in MTP mode by default when 'Auto Detect' was set. I switched to MSC and I can now access it but the music still does not appear, whether in Rhythmbox or in the folder 'MUSIC'.
I am attempting to get ubuntu working on my system.I have tried on previous systems without success, hopefully it works out this time.Currently my only major issue with it is I cannot get any sounds to play.I use a Logitech G35 usb headset and onboard audio (GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H motherboard, Realtek ALC892 audio chipset).Ideally, I'd like to be able to listen from either source, though just getting one working would be great.Ubuntu is currently not detecting any sound.
Using aplay -l, it said no sound card found. Using lspci -v, so sound devices were listed.I am a complete noob to ubuntu, I had to research to figure out what to do with 'aplay -l' (Application -> Accessories -> Terminal, type command in terminal). My Windows troubleshooting skills seem largely useless in a Linux environment.
After a while I decided to give ubuntu another go so I set up a dual boot configuration. Everything works well except my graphics card. I have 2 problems (don't know if they are connected)To start with, it's a laptop with an onboard Radion 3200 and it has another ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570 built in. I have an external screen attached to my laptop. (1920x1080)When Ubuntu first booted it asked me if I wanted to install proprietary drivers, so I did that. Now when I took a look in the control center it showed my two monitors but they were both attached to the 3200 and I can't seem to find anything about the other (better) card. It does not appear in the proprietary drivers, I can't (I think) select it in the configuration utility.
