View 3 RepliesI just got a Xonar D1 (chipset CMI 8788 ).
It partially works but I got a couple of issues (using 10.04 x86-64). I use it with a Stereo headphones and a mic.
1) It only outputs in 7.1/5.1 mode and only on the left headphone. If I reselect 7.1/5.1 while an audio stream is playing then I get stereo back. I've checked with Ubuntu 10.10 live CD and apparently the left channel is mapped to front, while the right is mapped to sub-woofer. How can I fix this?
2) The mic doesn't work. When I select the Xonar D1, I can choose between Analog Input, Analog Line In and Analog Microphone. When I switch between those I can hear a click coming from my pc, as if something HW is switching. I tried playing around with alsamixer but it doesn't work. Any idea how to make the mic work?
how to install alsa drivers along with Asus xonar dgx sound card. I followed these instructions. URL....And until "Setting up modprobe and kmod support" instructions were clear. I should put something in /etc/modules, but I dont down exactly what.

I recently bought a decent sound card, the Asus xonar D1. Prior to purchase, I checked the Alsa matrix to make sure that it is supported. I couldn't get it to work after putting it in, so I did a clean install of Suse 11.2. Initially, it didn't work, but after I installed alsa-firmware, it worked. However, flash videos had no sound. I remembered something about this when I fist installed 11.2 with my older card. I looked it up and figured out that it was the PCM issue. However, when I opened kmix, there ws no PCM mixer. I even looked through the "hidden" mixers, making them all visible and maxing each out all without success.
Next, I started the "SDB:AudioTroubleshooting" process. When I got to step 2, I deleted the configurations of the xonar card configuration in Yast. I rebooted and lost all sound. I then started over with the "SDB:AudioTroubleshooting" and could not get anything, though I have not gone through updating Alsa, as I hope it is not necessary.

I noticed that after compiling 2.6.35.4 that gnome-alsamixer has two new options for my ASUS XONAR D2X: "Dac Filter" and "Dac Oversampling", (I turned them both on and off and didn't notice any difference)

this card has worked for years on an ubuntu 12.04 installation. It worked on ubuntu 14.04 (but then I got fed up with the U thing and moved to Debian Wheezy). So on Wheezy, sometimes this card is recognized by Alsa, but sometimes not. After a reboot the card may be present or not. The modules that are supposed to know about this card (snd_oxygen, snd_virtuoso) are loaded in either case but are not used.

But 10.04 crashes in laptop ASUS X50GL with processor Intel Core 2 Duo T5800.In fresh installation, it hangs always, in ANY 10.04 version, beta or stable, 32 or 64 bit, also from iso image in CD or in usb stick,I have tried all possibilities! Therefore, clever enough, I though let's do it in an indirect way: let's install the 8.04 distro (it works) and later on I will upgrade to 10.04. So I just did.Everything was fine (also the upgrade, without a single warning) until final reboot after upgrade to 10.04.hanged at boot!. There is incompatibility between 10.04 and this firmware, clearly. Unfortunately, 10.04 is not yet stable, I guess.I took a picture of the screen which I attach.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and try to get my wifi to work in master mode. The dongle is a Asus 167g v3 and I'm using the rtl8192SU driver. I can connect to a network or put the dongle in Ad-hoc mode without a problem. It's when I try to put in master mode some problem occurs. When I do:
Code:
sudo iwconfig wlan1 essid test mode master
This is the output I'm getting:
Code:

The dongle is in master mode but it fails to assign a SSID. I also tried to set it up in /etc/network/interfaces but the result is always the same... No SSID
I'm having trouble with the webcam on my laptop. This is a full-sized laptop, not one of the Eee models.I'm not entirely sure what the model or chipset of the webcam is, as there doesn't seem to be much documentation available (as far as I know, this is Asus' first foray into the laptop market in the US).
I previously had the camera working just fine in Windows Vista, so I know the hardware is just fine. I have tried several programs to get the device working, and some (Cheese, for example) are able to get the green light next to the camera to turn on. I've tried running a number of programs as both the normal user and as root, but I don't seem to be able to get the camera to output video. I didn't see any drivers on the Asus site. Is anyone able to lend a hand with this? I'm moving out of the country in a month, and would really love to be able to keep in touch with my family and friends over skype or something similar.
EDIT: In programs like Cheese, the webcam seems to be detected as "USB2.0 UVC PC Camera (/dev/video0)". I imagine it's a good sign that video0 is available.
This is really not a Linux or SuSE question. However, the folks on this forum are polite and knowledgeable, so I will give it a try.In the process putting together a new computer.About 99% confident in the following:otherboard: ASUS Crosshair IV FormulaCPU: AMD Phemon II X4 955Graphics card: Gigabyte GV-R685D5RAM: Unknown. ASUS, as well as several other motherboard suppliers, have not approved of any 1x4GB DDR3 RAMS. Has anyone had success with getting a 1x4GB DDR3 RAM to work on the ASUS Crosshair IV motherboard?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThere are currently two options for nVidia drivers in Lucid Lynx, 173, and current. With the video card in my laptop, 9650m GT, the 173 drivers work but Docky is painfully, unusably slow. With the "current" drivers, Docky is fine but I get progressively worse and worse static-type lines across my screen and eventually it the machine restarts itself. I've tried installing drivers manually but they won't compile against the kernel.
Before installing Lucid, I had 9.04 Jaunty installed, and Docky (at the time still merged with gnome-do) worked without a hitch. I ran into this error first when I installed 9.10 and decided to go back to 9.04, hoping that it would be fixed. I can't remember which version of the nVidia drivers I was using in Jaunty, but is there any way to go back to those drivers in Lucid?

I just installed Maverick on an Asus Seashell 1215T netbook with an AMD/ATI chipset. The sound output is working fine (with the exception that I have to manually set output to either speakers or headphones rather than just plugging in headphones), but neither the internal microphone nor external microphones plugged in through the mic jack work. I do have the sound device set to the internal sound (rather than HDMI) and the volume level set appropriately. Apparently neither microphone is being recognized. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Here is the relevant section from lspci -v:

I could not get get the LG External CD R/W Drive that I recently purchased to work with my ASUS Eee Netbook (Linux based) and ended up giving the drive to a friend to use with his Windows XP based laptop. How do I make an External CD R/W Drive work with this Linux-based machine?I am an engineer (civil-structural), but not that savvy with respect to computers; particularly issues of compatibility of hardware / software.
View 2 Replies View RelatedCentos 5.2 Asus Eee box with Atom N270 and it came installed with "eLinux" which doesn't even come close to meeting my needs (low demand intranet server). But eLinux did work as far as I tested it.
First, CentOS seems to detect the Intel 945GME video chip but I end up with a blank screen. I used text mode to install CentOS. Then I searched for a solution. Found someone suggested also using the i915 driver with 945GM. That didn't work.
So, I reverted to a VESA driver. That worked except I couldn't get resolution greater than 800x600 even after I added a Mode line for 1024x768 to the xorg.conf file. However, the X interface wasn't that important. I mostly wanted into the utilities so I could fix the network.
I had tried a fixed address (192.168.1.11) since the box is supposed to be a "thin server." No luck. So, I tried DNS and tried activating again. The suggestion was that the network cable wasn't connected. When using DNS, the network hub lights flash. Something is happening.
Rebooted the computer using Puppy Linux (on a usb key). Video comes up in VESA mode. I can set it to 1024x768. It found the DNS server without any complaints. (Note: I didn't so much as touch the ethernet cable during the reboot).
Copying and Pasting isn't easy with a computer that won't connect to the LAN. But the hardware is a Realtek RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 2). I since tried Slackware 12.1 and it's pretty happy on that box. Vesa mode gets me 1024x768 and the ethernet works (however it thinks it's on eth1 which may or may not be a clue). I'll try CentOS on an old box for other testing.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've just brought a Asus Xonar DG and put it in my case - and found out that it's about the only card that is not easy to get working.I've updated my ALSA to 1.0.24 using this how-to. Then I reinstalled pulse with all the utilities and got it to look like working, with one problem only: no sound is output.I use Rythmbox for playback. In pavucontrol the bar below the soundcard output indicates that there's something playing, but no sound gets to my headphones. Has anyone encountered that? I've tried nearly all combinations of setting the output devices in various places like Sound settings and pavucontrol, but none worked.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Xonar D2X. Wonderful thing - recording from mic and quality of output to speakers is superb... on my Windows install. : /
It appears to work correctly in Kubuntu 10.10 as when I open up Sound and Video configuration, I can see it listed correctly and when I hit "Test", I get the annoying Ubuntu tinkle-plonk. But no application I use seems willing to use it. In fact, both Optical Outs (the motherboard's and the soundcards) are working fine when I try playing a test sound from this panel, but neither seems to be output to by VLC, Spotify or anything else I've tried.
I have set the entry "Xonar D2X Multichannel (IEC958 (S/PDIF)) Digital Audio Output to the preferred option for all output. Silence.
How do I convince VLC, Spotify et al, that the card really is there and they're really, really welcome to use it?

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 and set up ALSA and got my DS working perfectly.I booted back into Windows with the intention of playing some BC2, and discovered anytime sound tries to play, it's all screwed (I can still make out some of what is being said but it's pretty bad). Naturally my first reaction would be to go into the Xonar audio center, which I did, and made sure nothing was wrong there. I changed settings around (sample rate and changing from headphone to 2 channel) but nothing worked. Turned off the D3SD GX and that didn't work either. Removed the drivers, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted. No change.
One thing I noticed is under the Windows sound control panel it doesn't show I'm playing anything when I am. However when I go into advanced and use the test option (and set it to the highest option available) it sounds fine.Under Ubuntu it also sounds fine. I've got volume set to around 50% in Ubuntu. I noticed when I muted it under Ubuntu and rebooted it was muted under Windows, hence my thought that the volume settings were messing things up. Didn't work though.Pulled the card out and left it out for a few minutes worked. Quite strange.
Ubuntu 10.10 x64 worked out of the box for me but there is one irritating issue.
I have Xonar DS(Oxygen HD Audio) with analogue 2.1 speakers and spdif passthrough to nvidia GTX260 hdmi output for my tv.
It makes random cracking noise on tv unless something is played, no matter on analogue or digital output, then is noiseless.
Alsa 1.0.23, kernel 2.6.35
I have just upgraded my box to be more multimedia friendly and one of the upgrades was to improve the sound card. I decided to get the Asus Xonar DX pci-e card. I have it working but the speakers are not plugged into the front output socket as the xonar dx only plays sound from side surround output. Will the sound be any better from the front out on my 2.0 speaker system or is the sound being directed out of the side surround out full quality? How to overcome this discrepancy?
