Apart from KsCD and CD Player, (both of which are pretty good, but very basic), I have found it impossible to eject any music CD or DVD on any of the following:
Amarok
JuK
Media Kaffeine
MPlayer and
SMPlayer,
there does not seem to be any button, command or whatever to get the CD or DVD out of the drive, so now find that only way, is to stop player and then to open CD Player and use the eject button there.
Right clicking on the desktop CD icon eventually ejects it. But it still can't be ejected using the button.

It happens regardless of which DVD I put in the tray.
Initially, openSUSE recognizes that the DVD is, in fact, there. I go to any one media player, play the DVD, and exit when I'm done.
And then the DVD is gone. As far as openSUSE is concerned, anyway. I cannot eject the tray to remove the DVD, which prompts a total reboot.
Is there any way to dispose of this problem?
I have started to use K3b for ripping my CDs to flac files in order to put them on a NAS but have a few niggles with how it works.
I used to use Grip and in many ways preferred the interface and flexibility but had to change because I didn't know how to increase the number of attempts made by cdparanoia to rip difficult tracks and Grip fell down on one particular brand new CD opera set.
After posting queries here Asunder was suggested, among others and although (I understand,) Asunder also rips using cdparanoia, it succeeded on a CD where Grip failed. It also had a reasonable interface and it was easy to adjust tagging before ripping. Unfortunately Asunder has recently failed on another CD so I decided to try K3b.
K3b allows me to adjust the number of retries and this has been sufficient to enable me to overcome the most recalcitrant CDs. Great, but in many other respects K3b is a pain to use. I cannot find how to get it to eject the CD once ripping has been completed. Even after the CD has been ejected the track tags remain in the display until a new CD is loaded and the tagging interface is limited.
I am trying to configure mpd (music player daemon) to access my music files that are stored on a windows server (NAS).
In the mpd configuration file I have to point to the directory in which the music is.
How do I do that? Is it something to do with mount?
After successfully playing a DVD video (w/VLC) I close VLC, eject the DVD, then insert another disk. I get an error message: "Error mounting: mount: /dev/sr0 already mounted or /media/{name of previous disk} busy." But mount command doesn't show /dev/sr0 and ls /media shows nothing. I have to log out, then log back in in order to play another video. (same result with mplayer)

View 1 Replies View RelatedSUSe 11.2-64 running on a core quad Intel motherboard. In the room here are 3 computers with outputs through a Behringer mixer to a Sony surround sound system--it sounds better plus I dont have the spider web of a separate sound system for each machine. 11.2-64 has been excellent so far with the exception of the music player--Amorak. Someone decided to leave out any sound contour tools. I also have Banshee and MPlayer but have experienced various problems with them. Amorak, at least for my use isnt too lame but whoever "They" are decided to do away with the graphic eq.I like the ability to build playlists with Amorak which is missing in some other programs without an exercise in file system manipulation. Any one have suggestions?? One note I will add here is that in Windows 7 64 bit professional, which I am forced to use because of no software for my work written in Linux,running on another machine here-- someone had what I consider the really excellent idea of incorporating a graphic equalizer on the machine output under the Realtek audio package..one eq to control all sounds from that machine--anything like that available for SUSe??

View 7 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to KDE 4.4.3 this morning, but after that Amarok (with Xine backend) does not play music any more - track is progressed, but only silence comes out of the speakers. I tried Gnome music players too, but none of them plays anything.
I installed GStreamer with different kinds of plugins and switched Phono backend to gstreamer. When I start Amarok now, it says I have no MP3 support, so it has to be installed. It does it, restarts itself and it can play audio again. After restarting, having no MP3 support is reported again.
I have just bought a ipod to download some songs in it ,but now I want to transfer the songs into my computer ,I have tried many times ,it's faid .

I have no idea why it suddenly started doing that. It may have been an accidental key-combo I pressed, thinking I had another window targeted and didn't bother pressing it again for my Totem music player. So I closed out of Totem in hopes that Rythmbox would work like totem used to. Well, it doesn't. It wants to stream music now.The problem with the streaming music is trivial, but here it is: I have a playlist with a little over 300 songs. I have Totem set to shuffle and repeat my music. Streaming music with it makes it just stop randomly after a few songs, and when I try to pause music and play it later it takes a good 30 seconds before it kicks back in at the beginning of the song.Like I always ask because I don't know enough to give back to the community yet, can anyone help me? View 4 Replies View RelatedI did a fresh install of 11.2 (giving OpenSUSE a try after being on Ubuntu for years). I then enabled the community and packman repos. Now, I have noticed that the eject button that normally appears on the Device Notifier plasmoid is gone. I can still click on where that button should be and the device (CD in this case) will still eject. It's just that the button is "invisible."
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe only way I can eject a cd from either of my drivers is to restart my pc. The buttons don't work and neither does the eject control withing the device widget in my panel. It says the device is in use even though I am done with it. This is stupid. Everything else in this operating system is beautiful and works great (except the version of Audacity had to be replaced with one that is actually usable.) Other than that everything is great , way better than windows - but I can't do something as SIMPLE as eject a cd??? How stupid is that?? I am actually angry - being angry at a computer is something that happens when using windows computers - should not happen whilst using OpenSuse.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI would want to record/edit/save music from the microphone (convert a tape to CD). But. I start audacity, leave everything at default, record the music, and play back. It plays agonisingly slow. I can change the sample rate manually such that it sounds good, but this is just a guess (I could for example measure the recording time, and adjust the sample rate after that, such that the displayed time on the timeline fits this time). Why the hell do I need to do this? Why is the recording sample rate = playbe sample rate not producing correct output?
