OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Impossible To Eject Any Music CD Or DVD
May 24, 2011Apart from KsCD and CD Player, (both of which are pretty good, but very basic), I have found it impossible to eject any music CD or DVD on any of the following:
Amarok
JuK
Media Kaffeine
MPlayer and
SMPlayer,
there does not seem to be any button, command or whatever to get the CD or DVD out of the drive, so now find that only way, is to stop player and then to open CD Player and use the eject button there.

Apr 14, 2011I'm using a Three network broadband dongle for my net access at the moment. That's a ZTE MF-112.
It is obviously engineered for Windows and the procedure it goes through on a Windows box is to show up as a CD drive initially which then autoruns and checks for the presence of the drivers and installer software. Only after it has detected all that does it 'eject' the CD and bring the actual 3G device online.
This leads to a slight amount of... irritation. I tend to have a terminal window open anyway so typing /dev/cdrom1 eject whenever I put the dongle in is no particular hardship, bu there must be some way to automate this.
The device turns up on /dev/cdrom1 and the 'disc' has the label '3 Connect'.
how to auto eject this thing whenever it shows up?

May 2, 2010I use mt-daapd music server to stream music to a couple of network music players (which use UPnP protocols). Recently (last month or so) I have found that on restarting my ubuntu system I need to manually restart the avahi-daemon in order for the music players to be able to 'see' the music server. I think avahi-damon is running when ubuntu first starts up. The output of a ps aux shows:

I'd like to understand why I need to restart the avahi-daemon and either solve this or learn a way to automate restarting it on system boot up so I don't have to do it manually each time. My system is ubuntu 9.10 64 bit and the version of avahi-daemon is 0.6.25
Ubuntu :: Programs Or Music Or Video Players And Desktop Are Closed Are Removed All The Icons When Entering A Music CD
Jul 6, 20101-When entering a music CD, video or files, any programs or music or video players and desktop are closed are removed all the icons and I can not open any program only on firefox, I can not see the files or anything . (NOTE CD-rom is in mint condition)
2-I graphics effects ruin the entire desktop and when it is in fact no graphic still looks bad everything looks pixelated or striped like when flex is damaged or something is damaged and is in perfect condition.
Now I'm going with the version 10.04 of ubuntu:
1-I have the same problem with the CD I had in 9.10, except that in the 10/04 I can open some programs with the Emphaty and monitor systems.
2-When you close the laptop when I open the screen looks as if the flex embers damaged or broken screen (when it is of course) and I have no other to reset it.
3-When you drive about 30 minutes using computed with any open programs (Firefox, Emphaty, emesene, movie player, Gnome player) to close it or minimize it gets super slow and sometimes if I Friza and then to turn it off and repeat history.
4-When I'm watching a movie or a video with movie player is super slow (just what I'm playing does not the OS) as if Lageado and stuff. But with Gnome looks pretty good player just the video looks very small and I can not put it full screen. Certainly in a Dell Latitude C610 Pentium III-Processor: 1000/700mhz-Memory: 512MB Graphics-Card: 16mb.
Ubuntu :: Music Does Not Show On IPod Touch Music Library
Nov 26, 2010I recently got an iPod touch 2nd gen. I plugged it in and it immediately showed up in Rhythmbox. I dragged and dropped music files to the iPod icon listed under devices on the left hand pane. The files ARE on the iPod, I can confirm by finding them on the device in Nautilus. The problem is, they do not show up in the music library on the actual iPod. Did I miss something, or is there a step I must take to get them to show up in the iPod's music library so I can play them?

Dec 19, 2010I've been building my digital music collection for some time and used to house it on a local drive with no quality issues. A while back I built myself a file server using ubuntu and mdadm in a raid1 configuration to protect against potential drive failure. I link my iTunes library to the music files via a samba share and everything works great on the surface. I've started to notice that random songs are becoming corrupted with pops clicks and silent pauses. I'll even re-download an album and notice that it's corrupted a few weeks later. Now I'm at a loss to what is causing this issue; I ignored it at first but it seems to be getting worse and more widespread as time goes on.
Do you think this could be caused by mdadm? It reports that all is fine via 'cat /process/mdstat' but I wouldn't know where to look or what to look for if there were syncing issues. The other possibility is that I have iTunes set to keep my music folder organized for me, but I've never heard of it actually corrupting the files it shuffles around. The bottom line is that my library is getting crappier as time goes on and I cannot stand for that!

One or more files on this disk are open within an application."And of course i can't eject it. To eject the cd i must reboot my PC.I have tested to insert a cd without open something from it with no results.Always shows the same message.I also want to notice that except dolphin i use nautilus which is necessary for Dropbox.

Apr 19, 2010I've had an awkward problem lately: every music player I use wants to instead of play music from my USB external hard drive, stream music from it. I have no idea why it suddenly started doing that. It may have been an accidental key-combo I pressed, thinking I had another window targeted and didn't bother pressing it again for my Totem music player. So I closed out of Totem in hopes that Rythmbox would work like totem used to. Well, it doesn't. It wants to stream music now.The problem with the streaming music is trivial, but here it is: I have a playlist with a little over 300 songs. I have Totem set to shuffle and repeat my music. Streaming music with it makes it just stop randomly after a few songs, and when I try to pause music and play it later it takes a good 30 seconds before it kicks back in at the beginning of the song.Like I always ask because I don't know enough to give back to the community yet, can anyone help me? Thanks.

Feb 24, 2011For a long time, I've been downloading music from the Amazon MP3 Store (using Windows). I had hoped the Ubuntu One Store would allow me to use Ubuntu for downloading instead of booting into Windows. To date I've only bought and downloaded one album using the Ubuntu Store. Two reasons, namely that the albums are cheaper in the Amazon Store (at least the ones I've bought have been cheaper) and the files are hidden after download from the Ubuntu One Store.
I was reading last night that Banshee will be the new default music player in Ubuntu 11.04, so, I downloaded and installed Banshee which I discovered has the option to let me download from the Amazon Store (something I've not managed to do yet in Ubuntu). So I gave it a try and it downloaded an album successfully. As an added bonus, the music was downloaded to my Music folder and wasn't downloaded to a hidden folder anywhere. So now I have access to the Amazon Store (cheaper) and the files are not hidden (much easier to make a cd or move to another device for backup).
As of now, I'm exclusively using Banshee because of the reasons I've given above and I can see no sense in using the Ubuntu One Store as it stands. Will Banshee actually be the default music player in 11.04? If so, will it retain the ability to go to the Amazon MP3 Store? If so, will that then be the default for downloading music? If so, what will become of the current default and any music that's already been downloaded from there?
Ubuntu :: Cd Wont Display After 'wine Eject'
May 1, 2010I'm installing a program in WINE that requires more than 1 CD. I used wine eject to unmount the first one, and now ubuntu wont read the second one. No errors or anything, the drive just spins for a bit, then stops, and then the icon for the second cd doesn't appear, and I still have this wonderful message "Please insert disk number 2".

Jun 25, 2010i recently got a hold of a macbook 3.1, installed ubuntu 10.04 on it(Single boot). When i got the macbook the OSX that was installed on it had some serious issues, so without the OSX restore disk i had nothing so i hopped on my friends macbook pro and dled Ubuntu burnt it to a disk and installed it flawlessly on my macbook 3.1. During that installation i did remove the old OSX partitions completely and created a new one for ubuntu(the whole HD). later i was able to find a OSX Leopard backup on the interweb so on my pc i downloaded tit and burnt it to a dvd. When i try to boot from startup i just get a blinking cursor it stayed like that all while i took a 2 hour nap. Note that from within ubuntu i could see all the files on the disk so thats issue number one
Number 2 is that im trying to burn a dvd from a iso in ubuntu and when ever i insert a blank disk it says its unreadable and when i try to eject it it gets stuck. i have to hold the mouse button while it reboots in order to get it out. Whats causing this? how do i fix these issues. Eventually i want to startover and put mac osx on there (for steam) and ubuntu for primary use.

The problem is that whenever I use Brasero to burn any CD/DVD, it burns it but refuses to eject, although I always select the option to eject disk after burning. I get an error message: "Error mounting: mount: /dev/sr0 already mounted or /media/{name of previous disk} busy." But mount command doesn't show /dev/sr0 and ls /media shows nothing. I have to log out, then log back in in order to play another video. (same result with mplayer)

If I select unmount instead, the ipod does not charge. I am now trying out kde 4.6 with Kubuntu, but cannot see a way to eject. There is an option to safely remove the ipod, but this does not correspond to the eject option in Ubuntu as the ipod does not subsequently charge.

Nov 4, 2010I've been through Google looking for a method of ejecting an unrecognizable CD/DVD from a rewriter when the device's light is flashing. This happens more often than I like and it's annoying since the only reliable method I've found is to reboot.
If I insert a bad CD/DVD into the drive, the rewriter may or may not ever stop trying to read it. KDE gives me these bad CD/DVDs because it has the nasty habit of logging me off when it gets too busy doing who knows what (OK, so maybe I shouldn't be running KDE until v4.6, but that's another issue) leaving a partially burned disk in the drive and the light continuing to flash.
The problem is, the device thinks it's busy even though it's not really doing anything. I've tried umpteen variations on eject without success, turning off the lock in /proc, etc..
The old paperclip in the hole trick doesn't always work either. The disk tray may come out, but the device light still flashes. The device can't be used again until a reboot.

/etc/rc0.d/S89casper is a link though, so I just edited the file it points to (/etc/init.d/casper) -- seems to be working. I merge a modified "casper" at every boot, next time I build a Remastersys, I'll try to make it permanent.

Dec 26, 2010I started by running ubuntu 10.10 live CD and I did an install on my iMac. I went the route of just deleting all the data off of the iMac (I have a time capsule backup) and ran the install. Well when i booted the computer back up then Ubuntu did not come up as expected.After a few trial and errors I decided to just reinstall the Mac OS. I put the wrong disc in (it was an upgrade disk and not the disk that came with the iMac) so I wanted to eject it. That was a no go. Keep in mind i was using LOGITECH KEYBOARD and not the wireless keyboard that came with it. So when my computer boots up now all I get is the grey screen. After a while it tried to boot up Ubuntu. The screen has a flashing cursor, and then it disappears and the screen stays black.
I can get the computer to the point where if I hold the option key (alt on my logitech keyboard) then the option to boot to windows or the CD comes up. I can't boot to either.I've tried the command (windows key on the logitech keyboard) ctrl+o+f start up keys to try and get the command prompt up and that didn't work eitherI've tried a few other things and they didn't work. I'm not even sure my wireless keyboard works on bootup. I've tried to hold down the option key for the dual boot selection screen and it doesn't pop up, but it pops up when I use the logitech keyboard.Oh someone PLEASE help me. I have an Intel core iMac which was bough with the last year I believe. I would like to get the disc out or at least get Ubuntu up and I can eject the disk from the Ubuntu OS.

Problem: In order to get the sound to play on my system I have to go to PulseAudio Device Chooser and select default server,sink, etc. every login. I thought it was suppose to change it "permanently" , getting more specific here, when ever I play music in vlc I tend notice gaps/skips in my music very short skips .5 to 1 second sometimes 2 - 3, just now I was playing music flipping through some tracks then I am greeted with a nasty sound I cannot describe. Does anyone have a proper fix for this? Only result I came upon I have not tried yet was something with hda intel sound card and power settings, which feel will not work anyway

Sep 23, 2010I'm trying to create a boot cd that will auto repair a corrupt lilo mbr. I've got a mini linux shell booting off a cd no problem The cd then runs a shell script that is in the root of the cd The shell script does the following:
mounts some partitions
copys the lilo.conf file to /etc
run lilo command
[code]....
My problem is that the eject command always returns the following error
eject: tried to use '/media/cdrom/ as device name but it is no block device
umount: /mnt/cdrom: device is busy
umount: /mnt/cdrom: device is busy
eject: umount of 'mnt/cdrom' failed
I think that its not working because the shell script is actually on the cd, i've tried copying a 2nd shell script to / and running that, but I get the same error. I've also tried moving the current dir to / and running the eject command but that did not work either.
