It happens regardless of which DVD I put in the tray.
Initially, openSUSE recognizes that the DVD is, in fact, there. I go to any one media player, play the DVD, and exit when I'm done.
And then the DVD is gone. As far as openSUSE is concerned, anyway. I cannot eject the tray to remove the DVD, which prompts a total reboot.
Is there any way to dispose of this problem?
This has been bothering me for years now...when I go to remove a thumb drive from my computer, I have two options when I right click the device eject and safely remove. What on earth is the difference supposed to be?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have started to use K3b for ripping my CDs to flac files in order to put them on a NAS but have a few niggles with how it works.
I used to use Grip and in many ways preferred the interface and flexibility but had to change because I didn't know how to increase the number of attempts made by cdparanoia to rip difficult tracks and Grip fell down on one particular brand new CD opera set.
After posting queries here Asunder was suggested, among others and although (I understand,) Asunder also rips using cdparanoia, it succeeded on a CD where Grip failed. It also had a reasonable interface and it was easy to adjust tagging before ripping. Unfortunately Asunder has recently failed on another CD so I decided to try K3b.
K3b allows me to adjust the number of retries and this has been sufficient to enable me to overcome the most recalcitrant CDs. Great, but in many other respects K3b is a pain to use. I cannot find how to get it to eject the CD once ripping has been completed. Even after the CD has been ejected the track tags remain in the display until a new CD is loaded and the tagging interface is limited.
Apart from KsCD and CD Player, (both of which are pretty good, but very basic), I have found it impossible to eject any music CD or DVD on any of the following:
Amarok
JuK
Media Kaffeine
MPlayer and
SMPlayer,
there does not seem to be any button, command or whatever to get the CD or DVD out of the drive, so now find that only way, is to stop player and then to open CD Player and use the eject button there.

From terminal, if I login as su, I can restore function with eject -T. Kind of a pain, any easy fixes for this?

I would like to remove this icon, it's very annoying. I can right click it and click quit but I don't like doing this every time I log in.
Is there an easy way to stop it from starting up (I couldn't find it in Startup Applications)?
I installed Skype only because it is necessary to Pidgin to handle the Skype service/protocol. I use Pidgin for many protocols included the IRC, so I don't need Skype icon in the system tray at all. Honestly I hate Skype, but unfortunately it seems that all the world use it. how to take off that terrible icon/indicator/applet from the systray. I searched in all system to find a configuration file, I opened few named Skype using vi to avoid to damage them, but I have not found nothing interesting for my scope. PS: don't tell me how I will switch on or off Skype, because a plug-in of Pidgin do it w/o user interaction.

I get an error message: "Error mounting: mount: /dev/sr0 already mounted or /media/{name of previous disk} busy." But mount command doesn't show /dev/sr0 and ls /media shows nothing. I have to log out, then log back in in order to play another video. (same result with mplayer)

Now, I have noticed that the eject button that normally appears on the Device Notifier plasmoid is gone. I can still click on where that button should be and the device (CD in this case) will still eject. It's just that the button is "invisible."

The buttons don't work and neither does the eject control withing the device widget in my panel. It says the device is in use even though I am done with it. This is stupid. Everything else in this operating system is beautiful and works great (except the version of Audacity had to be replaced with one that is actually usable.) Other than that everything is great , way better than windows - but I can't do something as SIMPLE as eject a cd??? How stupid is that?? I am actually angry - being angry at a computer is something that happens when using windows computers - should not happen whilst using OpenSuse.

Now I am probably being obtuse, but If I click on the wonderfully named "My Computer" I get, among other things, a display of Disk Information; hard drive partitions and any DVDs or CDs. If I let my mouse cursor alight on any of these, I get a message "Press the right mouse button for more options (such as Mount or Eject)" But if I press the right mouse button, I don't get those options; I get a message "Open in new window, Open in new tab, Open with ..., Create file project with K3b, and Compress ...".

I am having troubles with my printer.
I have to use the manual feed, as the tray jams.
When set to manual feed, it prints fine in B&W and color.
However, page 2 goes from manual to tray 1! One page at a time works great.
FC 13, recent install, Dell 3100 cn printer USB.
It should be a simple thing to change to print from tray 2 instead of tray 1. Tray 1 is a manual feed tray, how do I change this?

I'm trying to install The Sims 2 (which I'm aware currently does not run properly in wine anyway), using the multi-CD version. The installation goes normally, up until it comes time to switch from disc 1 to disc 2. The installer prompts me to insert disc 2, but it seems that Ubuntu still believes that the installer doesn't want me to open the drive, because, when I try to open it, it doesn't open, and a window pops up with the following message: Unable to eject CD-RW/DVD RW Drive DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.Failed: An operation is already pending

In this app I'm creating 2 QSystemTrayIcon 's and when I run this application on Debian 7.8 with Gnome 3 disabled both tray icons show up nicely in the notification area in the top-right panel. However when I have Gnome 3 enabled nothing shows up in the top-right panel and the tray icon shows up in the (hidden) bottom panel, but the problem is only the first one of my 2 tray icons shows up - the other one is lost.
I'd like to ask, whether it is by design so, that on Gnome 3+Debian 7.8 there can be only one tray icon per application? Or is it some issue with Qt? I tried also Ubuntu 14.04 with Gnome 3 and there both tray icons showed up nicely in the top-right panel.
There doesn`t seem to be a tray icon for Rhythmbox. The only way to minimize it seems to be to the taskbar. I have used Rhythmbox. I am using a fully updated Debian Testing with Rhythmbox 0.12.3.

Right in the middle of the window is a panel for which I see no use. I found I could remove the things that are in there, but now there is a text that orders me to push the + and to add things (never in my ...). I managed to move the borders at the left/right of it to make it smaller, but still a piece of annoying, space taking, part of the panel is there.
Did anyone succeed in removing it completely and does she/he want to share the howto with me?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI use Debian Jessie which includes a gnome shell version 3.14.1. The problem is that icons of some applications such as Viber or Starcal are not shown in the tray while the icons of other applications (e.g. Skype of Dropbox) are shown without problem.
By the way, the problem does not relate to loading, because all applications are loaded and a space is considered for each in the tray, but the problem is that for some of applications the pictures of their icons are not shown.
All qt4 apps tray icons are missing. Debian decided to drop sni-qt support and wmsystemtray is actually piece of shit. Also I can't even use ubuntu version of sni-qt, because it also needs to have patched version of qt4, but debian refused to include that patches. What should I do to make skype icon visible in kde5 tray?

(I don't know whether this has something to do with this but, in the past, on typing by mistake the print screen key, I got multiple instances of ksnapshot launched automatically and had to delete the directory under 'home' ~/.kde/share/config/session and the file ~/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc to prevent this from repeating itself at every KDE login. The empty tray issue, however did not arise immediately after this, so it might be unrelated.)
