I currently have a little box with Mediatomb installed which I use to stream to my Linn DS. Is there an application that I can use that will automatically rip a CD when it is inserted into the machine and then eject when it is complete?
View 1 RepliesI would like to do something which I guess is pretty common: convert my collection of CDs to good quality mp3, named according to artist-song and properly tagged. Having to rip hundreds of CDs (i am not rich, i just live in China! ) I would like this to be as automatic as possible, like: insert cd wait 4 minutes (sw gets tracks' name and tags from the internet, and rips) CD is ejected automaticallyinsert new cd ...and so on If I was on windows, i would probably be doing this with itunes. Juicer does not support MP3. I read great things about rubyripper, but i dont understand how to make it start automatically.

I get an error message: "Error mounting: mount: /dev/sr0 already mounted or /media/{name of previous disk} busy." But mount command doesn't show /dev/sr0 and ls /media shows nothing. I have to log out, then log back in in order to play another video. (same result with mplayer)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having small boot issue with my present Linux box, which is presently running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. When booting from a Live CD, Ubuntu 9.xx+ or any other linux variant I have, the machine will come to a complete stop about half way into the boot process. I think this may have something to do with the WiFi card that I have installed. Are there any suggestions that could help me remedy this problem short of removing the card itself?

Initially, openSUSE recognizes that the DVD is, in fact, there. I go to any one media player, play the DVD, and exit when I'm done.
And then the DVD is gone. As far as openSUSE is concerned, anyway. I cannot eject the tray to remove the DVD, which prompts a total reboot.
Is there any way to dispose of this problem?
I have started to use K3b for ripping my CDs to flac files in order to put them on a NAS but have a few niggles with how it works.
I used to use Grip and in many ways preferred the interface and flexibility but had to change because I didn't know how to increase the number of attempts made by cdparanoia to rip difficult tracks and Grip fell down on one particular brand new CD opera set.
After posting queries here Asunder was suggested, among others and although (I understand,) Asunder also rips using cdparanoia, it succeeded on a CD where Grip failed. It also had a reasonable interface and it was easy to adjust tagging before ripping. Unfortunately Asunder has recently failed on another CD so I decided to try K3b.
K3b allows me to adjust the number of retries and this has been sufficient to enable me to overcome the most recalcitrant CDs. Great, but in many other respects K3b is a pain to use. I cannot find how to get it to eject the CD once ripping has been completed. Even after the CD has been ejected the track tags remain in the display until a new CD is loaded and the tagging interface is limited.
Apart from KsCD and CD Player, (both of which are pretty good, but very basic), I have found it impossible to eject any music CD or DVD on any of the following:
Amarok
JuK
Media Kaffeine
MPlayer and
SMPlayer,
there does not seem to be any button, command or whatever to get the CD or DVD out of the drive, so now find that only way, is to stop player and then to open CD Player and use the eject button there.
My attempt to install Fedora 10 x86_64 to a HP EliteBook6930p with an Intel Centrino 2 processor failed. Initially the CD load presents the start screen where I select Install. Then the machine displays multiple errors. When the error scrolling stops the last comments displayed are:

On my a few years old 64-bit Debian oldstable/Wheezie machine, I noticed my SATA DVD writer drive likes to close right away after I tell KDE v4.8.4's Dolphin to eject it. If I use terminal's eject command, then it will stay ejected until I manually close the drive. Why is that happening?

The installation goes normally, up until it comes time to switch from disc 1 to disc 2. View 6 Replies View RelatedHow do I automatically forward mail to a different user on a different machine in my LAN? I have been beating my head for several hours trying to accomplish this. I have sendmail configured as an MTA solely to receive system mail from daemons. For my personal mail I just use KMail and POP. I want all mail on any system in my LAN to forward mail to my office system, where my normal account can receive the messages. Although my office machine is powered on the most often, the box is not available 24/7.
So any other system that can't immediately forward mail should keep that mail queued as long as necessary. I have no problem forwarding root's mail on each local machine to a local user account on that same machine. I have been able to forward the mails but not the way I want. The mails get forwarded to the local /var/mail/me location rather than into the remote office machine /var/mail/me. Adding another alias in the local /etc/mail/aliases has no effect.
Creating ~/.forward in the local user's home directory also has no effect. Both efforts always result in the mails being forwarded to the local location rather than remote. I can send user-to-user email to and from any machine on my LAN. There are no network problems between any machine. Basic forwarding does work, just not to a remote machine at a different account. I won't pretend to know much about mail systems, let alone sendmail.
When DNS server is configured on Windows server, it will automatically detect and catch computer names and IP address. With Linux (BIND), I have to enter each clients manual under zone file. example (computer1 IN A 10.10.1.4). is there anyway to make Linux detect client automatically as windows does?

I am an administrator of a student lab with 20 PCs. I was thinking of a way to protect those machines in the long run with the presence of some students with destructive behaviour. The most suitable solution to install a Linux OS and use virtual machines to load Microsoft OS. This way once the OS fails I can simply replace the VM with a clone that was previously made.
The point is that most students have no experience with Linux, that's why I need to load the Virtual machine automatically at login and in full-screen view so that The startup process ends up in Microsoft OS through the virtual machine (VMWare based) in Linux platform.
update : I'm using Fedora13 Linux distribution. I believe that part of launching the VM in full-screen is more difficult than automatically launching VMWare at startup. Is there some way I can tell VMWare to launch a particular virtual machine in full-screen when it starts on boot?
I've been trying to get kdenlive to work properly the last couple of days. But I'm missing some codecs. Some Ubuntu users said that installing the ubuntu-restricted-extras did the trick for them.

I am running Fedora 8. Each time I run a YUM command, I get the message that there are unfinished transactions, and to run yum-complete-transaction. Upon running yum-complete-transaction, it fails with this error. How can I remove this uncompleted transaction so I can finish the last one?

I installed a new, clean hard drive into my old iMac G5, and decided to finally set up a linux machine, I installed Ubuntu 9.10 with the 64bit mac software, and the instal went very smooth, however now there are a few hardware issues.First, the cd/dvd drive loads disks, but the system does not recognize anything inserted, and wont play any media. Second, the built in airport card doesnt want to work either, I can see the icon for wireless at the top right of the screen and it lets me plug in my network name and security, but wont connect or see any wireless networks at all, however, ethernet works fine, and it is how I am able to get online now. Lastly, the screen is slightly shifted to the right and the far right of the screen wraps around to the left side of the screen, its not major, probably a 1/4 of an inch, but it is annoying.
I am sure these are likely driver issues, but when I go to Administration, and Hardware Drivers it does not say I need any drivers. and when I run through "system testing" it says that this version of ubuntu is not genuine, or something like that, but I just burned the install disk last night from ubuntu's website.
I installed ubuntu server 9.10. During the install the onboard 10/100 land card was automatically installed and was used for updating packages. I just put in a DGE-530T gigabit ethernet card. I can see it recognized under lspci.01:07.0 Ethernet controller: D-Link System Inc DGE-530T Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (rev 11) (rev 11). It does not show up under ifconfig. The CD came with linux drivers. The readme talked about recompiling the kernel and a whole bunch of other stuff. Google was equally confusing. What do I do?
View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter the updates about a week ago I noticed my system was hanging (screen and mouse frozen, unable to switch desktops, trl+Alt+SysRq+B still reboots) frequently. Though sometimes the system would not hang but become extremely sluggish and unresponsive. I've been able to determine that the problems occur whenever a module is added or removed. I can cause this problem with such commands as:
sudo modprobe aes
sudo rmmod raid0
I've tried multiple kernels but the problem persists. I've run memtest on the system but no errors have been found. I wonder if this could be some other sort of hardware problem but I'm suspicious that this began after a set of updates. I've seen message such as this in the kern.log:

I've tried using strace but that was not helpful. This is becoming a serious problem as I cannot load any encrypted volumes due to the inability to load the aes module. dpkg is currently in an interrupted state as the system hung when upgrading virtualbox-3.2 when it attempted to remove the modules. So my system is barely functional and I cannot see any way to fix things.
I am running Ubuntu 9.04 on my Acer Aspire 5100 laptop. Normally, when I put it to suspend to disk mode, it fails to wake up cleanly. I mean, it wakes up but the X is corrupted with lot of flickering. Ctrl + alt + backspace doesn't set it right. But when I insert my Photon Plus Broadband pendrive into the USB, the flickering immediately disappears and I am presented with the clean, shiny desktop. The problem is that the flickering doesn't stop until I insert the pendrive.
