I'm having some trouble getting Miro updated. The package in Stable is 1.2.3-2, and I can't see all the online content because I don't have the 2.0 version. The thing is thar actually Miro is in its 3.0.1-2 version! I searched the package and is only found on testing (It's not in backports). I was wondering if I can install a package from testing in stable.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use gwibber 3.0 in Debian SID for the first time but I can't add accounts. I can perform all the steps but the new account never appears in the account list. I've tried debugging the problem but I don't know much about python apps. It seems that some files didn't get compiled (*.pyc) after installation so when running gwibber it tried to compile them without success. I've run it as root so that they got compiled it but it's still the same, no surprise here.

I have just recently switched from Gnome to KDE in 11.2 since there was some sort of major KDE update that fixed the issues I had been having with KDE. Ever since, I have not been able to get miro to load. I try to run it and all I get is the bouncing logo, then nothing. When I try to run Miro in terminal, I get this:

I used to use Gwibber as social networks aggregator/client, but starting since last update (current version 3.1.0) it crashes miserably on both Fedora 14 and Fedora 15.
Gwibber team looks reluctant to provide any feedback on whether this shall be fixed in foreseeable future. Installing Gwibber from the last stable sources gives the same crash.
Miro won't play audio cd and dvd video!!! I am using Miro 4.0.1 and I can't a play a simple audio cd or dvd video. I have "show all devices and drives" checked. My audio cd and dvd video doesn't not show up on the left pane like it does on iTunes, totem, etc.

I occasionally have to connect to public, unprotected, WiFi networks and use Twitter via Gwibber. So, here is my question: is Gwibber vulnerable to Firesheep in an unprotected network? Is there a way of protecting it from this attacks? (I know that using https stops Firesheep attacks to the web version of Gwibber, but i don't think if this method is possible or applicable to Gwibber)
After a fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.10 I uninstalled empathy (im using skype). The empathy menu in the evolution indicator was gone after that.I also uninstalled gwibber. But the gwibber status indicator remains within the about-me panel... Uninstalling the gwibber package also removes the me-menu which I want to keep actually. Especially the shutdown/restart... part of it. See attachment.I know there is a shutdown panel-app...but its butt-ugly and it doesnt allow to logon/off.
In another thread I read that the gwibber status shouldnt be there if no account for it is configured... which it is not... I do use ubuntu-one though which is in the same menu... I saw that this issue was addressed at some bug report before, but not fixed yet...
Does anybody know a good workaround to get rid of the gwibber status in the panel while keeping the about me and the shutdown button?
Miro worked well with Wheezy. When I upgraded to Jessie Miro started generating a python error as such:

I have been searching for a few weeks trying to find an answer to no avail. I tried three different kernels, renaming ~/.miro, checked all dependencies. I reported it as a bug which sat there for a few days and disappeared.

What is this error and how can i fix it,because every time im re booting my server i lost my network config.
I'm planning to use Debian as the OS for a firewall machine, which will sit between my internet connection and the rest of my computers. Now my network is all wired, no wireless whatsoever. I'm using the onboard the motherboards cat5 socket which seems to be using the VIA rhine driver and I'm also using a 3com 100MBps card.
I can list the machine spec if you want but it's nothing special, an old Athlon 64 rig with 1gb ram and an OEM motherboard, it all seems to work ok apart from the internet doesn't' seem to work. Lenny seems to detect both cards ok and I even used the net install CD and it managed to download everything using the 3com card.
The strange thing is when I'm in Lenny, I can't seem to connect. I can ping google, but when I try and view a webpage, the browser just sits there with a while screen... Could it be that using 2 network cards is confusing Debian? Right now I've only got the modem hooked up the the 3com card, and nothing connected to the onboard network card.
It's a bit unnerving.The monitor suddenly goes black, the keyboard resets, the mouse resets. And after about 2 - 3 seconds all is back to normal.My USB setup is a bit complicated (mostly because I could). A 7 port hub is connected to a USB port on the computer. Among other things, the 7 port hub is connected to a four port hub on the monitor (Viewsonic). The mouse is connected to the 4 port hub. The PS1 keyboard is connected to the PS1-to-USB convertor which is connected to the 4 port hub.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new install of Debian Squeeze from debian-6.0.0-amd64-kde-CD-1.iso but I'm experiencing problems with the wireless internet applet in the taskbar.When the computer boots, it doesn't connect automatically eventhough I have it set as such. I have to fiddle with it until I get the request from KDE Wallet Manager to insert the password to complete the connection. I didn't have this behavior in Kubuntu.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently on F11, and experienced problems with Network Manager. Whenever I to connect to a network, wired or wireless, it just seems to try to connect, and then after 2-3 seconds, it just reports "Disconnected"..
Then I switched to network, and both wired and wireless works. so I don't think there is any driver or hardware issue...
Does anyone have any idea of this problem? The network manager have worked on the live CD version ( before installed to HD).
Basically upon logging network manager will connect to my network, and most of the time it will only last 20 seconds or so before it disconnects and tries to reconnects, this tends to go on for quite a while. Logging off and logging on over and over worked once, for this post I opened pages between the 15 seconds that i was connected and after 20 minutes it has remained connected (every time it stays connected for longer than 5 minutes it will never disconnect again) I followed the HOWTO thread so forgive me if most of this information is useless

Working on ubuntu 10.04 on an IBM Thinkpad X61 laptop with an Alpha 2W wireless usb card on wlan0. Once in a while the wireless network disconnects and can't connect to any network in range (open, wep, wpa, wpa2). It looks like it's trying to connect but then asks for a password (even if allready given one) and if open just not finishing connecting and trying to connect to another network. Happends the same with wicd. Network card is working ok. Also with other computers. Drivers are installed correctly and power consumption management is off.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi just installed open suse 11.3 after using linux mint 7(based on ubuntu 9.04).i am currently using two internet connections at home, the first is a vodafone mobile modem, which is workind excellent, and the other is a LAN network, that on windows uses a *.exe program to run. i managed to make all the IP, NETMASK, DNS settings and the internet connected, but without the .exe program it just disconnects after 10 minutes.this is the same thing that happens with the connections on windows if i start the computer and not run the "net.exe" program, but if that program is running the internet connections works just fine. i tried using wine to run net.exe, but it just gives an error message.

I don't see a Save button. Eventually I get out of the configuration tool. The next time I run the tool, my static addresses have not been saved.

So when Im uploading,(ftp) IE using a lot of the network "space" the other computers on the network gets kicked out. So what is going on? My Airport Extreme is doing fine, but my other clients just get kicked out. If I pause the upload, everything is okay again. The whole network is 1 gigabit, clients, everything.

I have a computer home that I use a web server and I had Lenny in it for about a year and didn't experience any problems. Recently I needed to update to Squeeze just to be able and use part of my server for a game(which I couldn't compile on Lenny). I renamed every "lenny" word in the /etc/apt/sources.list with "squeeze" and ran dist-upgrade. Everything seemed fine(minor some "link not found" warnings). I also had some minor problems with the mysql configuration after the update but I managed to fix them all. Then I noticed that after some hours(not sure how many) I can suddenly not reach my computer via ssh. Neither can I visit my website(even from the local network). The computer doesn't appear either in the router's "attached devices" list. My other computers have no problems so it can't be a router issue.Pinging from the server to the outside world doesn't work. I tryied "sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart" and that didn't do anything. The only way to fix the problem is by rebooting but then again after some hours the problem is still there. Do you guys have any idea what the problem can be?

I have tried to re-install everything once again with the cable in, but during the Debian installation there was no network detected.
However, I proceeded and re-installed Debian. But the problem persists. It continues to re-connect and than disconnect. There is a symbol showing re-connection. The network eth0 is visible to the machine.
I booted Mint Live disc and the same happens there.
Debian Testing, updated daily, running Gnome.
A week ago, a new router was installed at the office and now my system "loses" the networks printers and forces me to manually select them within Cups various times a day to be able to print. The issue was not present when the old router was in place, and all my colleagues can print without problems using their Windows machines.
This only affects printing, for Simple Scan can always communicate with the printers without problems.
The printers are two basic Epson L355 (those with ink tanks) and the "official" driver (from Open Printing) has been working perfectly since I installed Debian. The whole Cups and Avahi stack is installed, and I even added system-config-printer this week to make sure that I was not missing a package.
Because the only variable that changed is the router, there has to be something there messing with my Cups or Avahi configuration.
Note that the new router had a "vanilla" installation, where no advanced settings were touched. All connected devices (computers, mobile phones, printers, etc.) are given new IP address through DHCP every day.
Where should I start? I have already deleted and added the printers within Cups several times during the week, and the problem persists. Is the router renewing the address more often than the old one did? Can this "refresh" be delayed? Should Avahi monitor devices more often?
I guess that I could configure the router and give static IP addresses to the printers, but such a setting was not present in the old router and my computer could locate the printers without problems.
