OpenSUSE :: KeyTouch Broken In 11.2 - Program Dead?
Nov 19, 2009
Since the upgrade I have not been able to get keyTouch to work. I have the KDE 4.3 desktop. I have xbindkeys and GTK2 installed. I have installed the KMix plugin. I can start keyTouch in system services, but it stops immediately. If I try to refresh I get /etc/init.d/keytouch-init status returned 1 (program is dead and /var/run pid file exists): I have no idea what that means.

Recently I had installed a kubuntu (i'm new to linux), recently being 3 days, 1 day of actual use. When I tried to watch dvd's I installed vlc and it didn't work at all. I made this post: [URL]. Then I made a post at vlc forums and asked what can be wrong with vlc as it is closing after anything. They asked for some debug log, I provided it
Code:
istrebitel@dom-tux:~$ gdb --args vlc -vv

Your system is so broken that it's not funny. PulseAudio is dead, DBus is dead, KDE is dead. Sorry. Please refer to Ubuntu support. [URL] What exactly should i fix in my system? And what do they mean by it being broken and dead? I can pretty well listen to audio and watch video and kde is working fine with all that nice eyecandy...

Recently I did a dist-upgrade to 9.10, figured my sound and video problem of the live CD may have been fixed as i last tried on the last Beta.It has been working (mostly) for the last few days, i say mostly as it likes to disable my wifi quite frequently and only editing a blacklist file fixes it.Today i have booted and got to my Grub menu, then i get a black screen for a while before getting a message about the /dev/disk/by-uuid/f49b68fd-a095-402c-a068-82a6b40f2aed does not exist. Then it dumps me to a Busybox shell and leaves me with a (initramfs) prompt. Can anyone tell me what on earth is going on, the disks have not been changed by me (via fdisk or anything) and it has already fired up into 9.10 a couple of times in the last few days.

I am running Debian Sid, KDE 4.3.4 with kernel 2.6.33 on a dual core 1.6 GHZ Toshiba Satellite A100-VA3, 2G ram. I have 4 multimedia keys beside my main keyboard that I used to configure successfully using the KeyTouch-Editor, and then loading it via KeyTouch. My problem is KeyTouch worked great with KDE 3.5.x but now it doesn't work with KDE 4.x.x. Has anyone managed to get KeyTouch to work with KDE 4.x.x? Is it broken or am I missing some kind of trick to get it to work?

Keytouch assignments do not take with Logitech Access keyboard. E.g. I have set MyHome key to run <firefox> but it runs a file browser instead. E-Mail works, but that's about all. None of the multimedia keys work.

I installed Keytouch in a useless attempt to allow me to brighten my screen (but that's another thread...) and now the control keys don't work. I tried a couple of files that were supposed to be my keyboard, but neither worked. I don't want to mess with it any more, but I can't figure out how to uninstall it!

I have a logitech dinovo wireless keyboard with those extra multimedia keys on it like Volume Up, Volume Down, and Mute. They didn't do anything so I installed KeyTouch. I was able to select my keyboard from the list in KeyTouch, and if everything was working right then at that point all my extra keys would work. But they still didn't do anything. So I went into the Keytouch editor to make my own custom profile. You click add to add a new key and then it asks you to press a key. So I press the key (Mute) and it recognizes it, and then you select what action you want it to do. I did this for Mute, Volume Up and Volume Down. But yet they still don't work!
Now obviously it detects my key presses (keycode) just fine when I added the new key. So it should do the assigned action when I press that key. What I *want* it to do is mute or change the volume of the Headphones. But as I said that wasn't working at all for some reason. So to narrow it down I instead set the Mute key to simply launch firefox. But it still doesn't work. So there is some disconnect... in the keytouch editor it's detecting the key just fine, but afterwards when you press Mute it doesn't do the action it's supposed to.

I am running openSUSE on Acer Aspire-One, 1.6/500MB/8GB and it runs perfectly fine on AC power but whenever I switch to Battery power (on 100% charged state) after sometime (3-5 minutes) the Display goes Black Dead while power light is still green and cpu fan still running and then i have to forcefully shut it down by press and holding power button and restart it.
This is really strange problem and i have fresh installed the openSUSE two times but same problem.

After have the gui completly f***d up with an upgrade that messed up kde, I'm about to restore the original kde from the installation dvd (11.1) but there is no particular options to only restore kde, so I have concerns concerning some of those applications compiled and installed after the original installation (two years backward). I also updated the kernel to make things work with vmware...I don't want to loose time to recompile all the different stuff I need to work with linux.
Is there a way to be sure (by renaming /usr /bin /sbin for example) to keep the kernel alive (with libraries and headers) and all applications that were working very good before I did this update for kde (I won't do this again trust me)?The kde group never told me how restore kde from the original dvd so I'm a little disappointed because the system is working ok in run level 3.only kde is dead.I'll dig deeper before doing the reinstallation of suse 11.1...

When i start tomcat6 (on a SLES 11 box) two times without a stop in between, rctomcat6 status results into dead state.
I checked the rctomcat6 start script, in this case when the tomcat6 is already running and a rctomcat6 start is done, it display a msg that "process already running", but it continues in the start function further down & executes the TOMCAT_SCRIPT(dtomcat6) script with the start argument. And after that pid in the tomcat6.pid file gets changed but the process keeps running with the old pid, and hence when we do a rctomcat6 status, it results into dead state(bcoz it doesn't find any process running with that pid).
I think it shouldn't execute the TOMCAT_SCRIPT in this case, so in case when checkpid is success(in start function), i put an exit after the echo msg " process already running", this solves the problem, but is this the correct solution ?
function start() {
echo -n "Starting Tomcat ($CATALINA_BASE)"
if [ -f "/var/lock/subsys/${NAME}" ] ; then
if [ -f "/var/run/${NAME}.pid" ]; then
[Code]...,

OpenSUSE 11.2 x86_64
Kernel 2.6.33-34.1(from Kernel:HEAD repo)
KDE 4.4.1
Did the daily set of updates today, which included the kernel, but that update only had to do with enabling IPV6 on all flavors of the kernel. The update also included updates to the xorg packages from the X11:XOrg repo. However I was prompted that a requirement couldn't be met and one of the options was to downgrade xorg-x11-driver-input to the previous revision (not previous version). I thought that wouldn't matter so I did it.
I reboot and I am able to choose the kernel I want in the grub boot screen, get to the KDM login screen, however, after that the input is totally dead! Mouse and keyboard don't work whatsoever. I have a Logitech Cordless Desktop Wave mouse (LX8) & keyboard so I tried it with a standard PS/2 wired mouse & keyboard but it produced the same exact problem.

Is there any reasonable alternative to Smeegol/MeeGo for small laptops (exception made for Ubuntu)? I had a look to Android on Netbook but it doesn't really seem a serious option - to me (but may be i didn't catch its sense (?) ).Small footnote: I, for one, as a person which has to deal a lot with text, i need a device with a keyboard and as elegant and smart many tablets are i do not believe in a "Newton" + attached keyboard So, for mobile, Netbook or small laptop (subnotebook) are a must. And i'd like a - linux based - surface which optimzes the screen space and ressources.

In terminal session keyboard works.I can't understand What is it?The most interesting:If I run terminal as a root and run startx - kde desktop is started but the same way - without keyboard!Hardware manager (YAST) shows: /dev/input/event0and shows type of keyboard right: AT Keyboard bla-bla-bla. (Common Genius PS/2 keyboard for 6$ :-))I suspect something wrong with my X11 but can't get what!I did not find xorg.conf in it's standard place. I have found only /etc/X11/xorg.conf.install

Old hp notebook (HP520) and want to install some linux distro on it to use it for basic web browsing and word processing. After a bit of research decided to begin with opensuse.
Only problem i cant seem to install it on the notebook. The dvd drive is dead and hence i wanted to install suse through a usb drive (2GB). Downloaded the appropriate live CD and used it to make a bootable usb disk as per instructions on opensuse.org. The drive boots up fine but no matter what i do i the next screen is always a black screen with a blinking underscore and nothing seems to happen. However compatibility reports indicate that suse should install hassle free and everything should work!
Already attempted text mode and safe settings installations. Nothing has worked so far. XP seems to run perfectly fine on it.
Here's the cpu-z report for the laptop if that's any help: report.txt

I just did a clean install of OpenSuSE 11.0 and performed all the available updates as well. After rebooting when I try to SSH into my SuSE workstation I get:
PuTTY Fatal Error
Server unexpectedly closed network connection
I don't see anything relevant in /var/log/messages. I've tried rebooting and restarting the SSHD service.

Since upgrading to opensuse 11.2 in May, I've not been able to install any programs that require xulrunner1.9.2, specifically firefox 3.6, without breaking yelp.
When I try to start yelp I get the error,
Unable to load page The requested URI "file:///fakefile#index" is invalid
If I try to view the help of any program that uses yelp it just hangs.
Up until now I've just run firefox 3.5, but since 3.6 is now a recommended update I have updated and once again yelp is broken.
I've tried every suggestion I could find on google, like reinstalling stuff, but the only fix so far is to remove xulrunner1.9.2 and downgrade or remove everything that depends on it. I also tried upgrading yelp to 2.30 but it just flicks open for a split second and closes.
