When I look the Services panel, nxserver is listed but shows as "Service is Dead". Does this mean anything specifically? Could it be related to firewall or security issues? Right above it a related program to nxserver, nxsensor, is listed and it's shown as operational.
Same thing here in my Services panel. Just getting into using NX...the display seems near Win RDP quality over the home lan. I'm now trying to get the sound to work. What is this 'dummy output' in my Sound preferences and where did my sound cards go? I have one onboard sc and a PCI card, neither recognized via the NX client session. Looking to get ESD going which might be the issue.
I have opened up the Service Configuration window that shows all the services and their status. My httpd says that it is enabled, but also that "this service is dead" and there is a orangish triangle. I can run phpMyAdmin on my server, but I can't run it from any other PC on my network.
View 13 Replies View Relatedi just installed Fedora 12, clean without anything change in it. I opened services dialog, and the openvpn service have status:dead, however it shows that it is enabled.when i try to run it as:/sbin/service openvpn start. It write OK. However if check it:/sbin/service openvpn status it write that service not running. What is a point of a problem? I have opened openvpn in FireWall, however without success, may be some additionsl services for openvpn are not running?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have cloned linux installation from USB drive to another. The system is Fedora core and it is used as a software for encoding live stream (it's using PCI encoding cards). The system works well on original hardware configuration, however when I use this cloned flash drive on another hardware configuration one service will not start. It is a "calld" service and it is a service which has a protection which limits its execution to original hardware platform only (mac authentication probably). I need to get this service up, so when I type command "service calld starts/tatus" or "etc/init.d/calld start" I get response "service is dead and subsystems are locked". I tried matching mac address to original hardware configuration but still the same. This is a config file of service /etc/init.d/calld
#!/bin/bash
#
# /etc/rc.d/init.d/calld
#
# Starts the calld

I wonder is it possible to get it up by changing its configuration.
My mail server is getting problem since 3 days. It automatically get hang and httpd service get dead any time. How I can check what is effecting server, load, network traffic etc...
View 13 Replies View RelatedI am using CentOS 5.6 with Apache 2.2.17. The Apache was compiled from source using RPM build to comply with PCI requirements. Also Plesk 9.3 is used as a control panel, but other than the config files the Apache is pretty standard. When the httpd is started, there are no errors reported in /var/log/messages or in the error_log, and the httpd starts, shows up in ps and the pid file exists in /var/run/httpd.pid.
However when you check the status 'service httpd status' you get 'httpd dead but subsys locked'. You can add websites normally, and the proper config files are generated so I am pretty sure this isn't a control panel issue as I have other servers running the same control panel and Apache 2.2.16 compiled and installed the same way as the 2.2.17 and there are no problems.
i have squid running in my network the problem i am facing is that once a week the squid service is dead, i checked the log files bu could not figure out what the problem is it gives me the error squid dead but pid file exist squid error no running copy i have written a script that just moves the compressed log files from the /var/log/squid files to /media/usbdisk the script is as follows i suspect that this problem arises because of the script coz the script runs every week and the next day i get this problem

I don't know why but sometimes zypper (v1.4.5) removes some of the installed packages before upgrading them.
Actually it removes it even before downloading a newer version. I just wonder what a stupid f**k implemented this behavior. I wish something awful happens to him.
An hour ago I tried to update few packages, among those were sysconfig, firefox and yast. Guess what? Zypper removed those before downloading newer versions. Due to a temporary network connection loss zypper could not download packages and quit leaving me without firefox, without yast and, what's even worse, without sysconfig package which contains essential system scripts such as ifup, ifdown etc (so my network went down completely without a possibility to restore). It's a big luck there was no new package of rpm (or it would be removed by zypper too) so I could just download those packages with my second PC and reinstall them from a memory stick.
Now I'm interested where should I file this bug, because without a doubt it's a critical one.
OpenSuse 11.2 AMD64
My question - how can I use Zypper to do the job of PackageKit ? That is, install security and recommended updates. If possible, I would like to then remove PackageKit. Do you see any problems ?
Yesterday I performed a zypper up on my system. Stock KDE4 that comes with 11.3. After I restarted the computer, it would get about 4/5 the way through the progress bar that displays when first starting then lock up hard. Starting in safe mode works. With a little experimenting I found that typing x11failsafe to the boot up options line let me start without a problem also.
The sleazy workaround would be to add that parameter to the grub menu, but I'd rather have a real fix. Has anyone else seen this issue? Is there a fix for it?

updating via Zypper. Recently I decided to do all the system updates via Zypper, because I trust Zypper more than the other update mechanisms. since 2 days I always get the following message in the terminal, when I do
Code:
zypper up
Code:
The following package updates will NOT be installed:
gstreamer-0_10-plugins-base kcm_gtk kdebase4-openSUSE
kdebase4-runtime-branding-openSUSE kdebase4-workspace-branding-openSUSE
kdelibs4-branding-openSUSE kdm-branding-openSUSE kio_sysinfo

the packages mentioned in there are always the same, but I am more concerned about this message in general. In Ubuntu (which I used before) and in Debian, such a message meant, that you have to install some additional packages to resolve dependencies.
Code:
apt-get dist-upgrade
with this command the system installed the required additional packages and afterwards the packages which were listed as "will not be installed" so does this message in Zypper mean the same? Can I also do something like a "dist-upgrade" in OpenSuse, without bringing the whole system to (for example) 11.4, but to get all the updates including some new dependencies?
I'm upgrading from 11.2 RC1 to the final release.
I searched here, but didn't find much in the way of tutorials. This page was the best I found: Upgrade openSUSE
That page indicates that I only need to run
Code:
zypper dup
Very simple, but is it complete?
Thinking it is not that simple, I put together my own list of steps and I'd like some feedback on whether all this is necessary. In particular, is it necessary to run zypper dup outside X? Are my steps too complex?
sudo -s
zypper lr --export backups/repos/foo.repo
zypper ref
zypper in zypper libzypp (nothing to do)

I solved that by going into yast and disabling the CD-based repository. How do you do this in zypper when the error message doesn't tell you the name of the offending repository? That error could be very confusing to someone who didn't realize that a CD-based repository would be responsible for this.
I added Index of /repositories/KDE:/Backports/openSUSE_11.2 The opensuse.org says: If you just want the latest versions of e.g. amarok, digikam etc. you don't need to upgrade all of KDE, just add the Backports repo maintained by the openSUSE KDE Team. I want to update the Amarok to the new version (2.3) with zypper but I cant.

the zypper calling aria2c download the file, but the speed is too slow, so, I want to use proxy.the aria2 is supported to use proxy ,but I cannot find where is the config file. I want to know how the zypper pass the parameter such as file name file target and anthor option when aria2 is calling by zypper

Turned on my PC as soon as I got home & found that Factory repo had a whole bunch of updates, so I selected to 'switch system packages' & clicked accept.
Whatever I tried to download & install displays an error message
Have even deleted the factory repo & re-added, to ensure it wasn't a change of url causing problems.

I installed R using zypper some time back, but then I read that I should have used a specific repository called Rpatched. So (note order) I added the repository, then remove R (called R-base) and then proceeded to install the package. Clearly in my repository list there is more than one source of R. Should I have removed the package first and then add the new repository? How in fact does zypper deal with different repositories when they all have the same package? I expect it might choose the most recent version. But what happens when the packages are patched? How does it determine the best version of the package to use?

Is it possible to add repositories from NFSv4 to zypper? I have initiated automatic mounting network resources on NFSv4 and it works fine, but after adding repository from NFSv4 to zypper, I have problem on refreshing repository data:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't know why this is happening, however, all of a sudden I am unable to install any packages (from OpenSUSE repos of course) using either Zypper from the CLI or YaST2. I'm no stranger to OpenSUSE's package manager, however I have yet to come across this error before.
when in command line (because i cannot start plasma either) i get an error message stating [/usr/lib/YaST2/bin/y2base: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6:undefined symbol: _ZNst_num_getIcSt19istreambuf_iteratorIcSt11char_traitsIcEEE2idE, version GLIBCXX_3.4] i would like to know how bad it is and if it can possibly can be fixed

Code:
zypper dup
on my 11.2 box. Apparently it did ok, but I can't see any change. How can I check if I have 11.3 now?
So I did zypper dup yesterday, because I have been a having a ton of freezing issues with this 11.3, and now after a restart I get the green lizard loading screen and then, when it seems like it's about to load KDE all I get is a black screen with a cursor.
It will boot up in failsafe mode just fine. I just rolled back to an older kernel but still same issue, what should I do now?
This laptop has a Intel 945 graphics card
I recently updated my girlfriends laptop (and my own) to KDE 4.4 (using the Factory repository). I am also using some additional repositories like PackMan.
I recently read on this forum, that the updater-applet is only updating from the main repositories (the ones set up after install). I would like to update from all updates periodically using "zypper dup".
I read somewhere else, that cronjobs are used to run scripts based on schedules. how I could run "zypper dup" with a cronjob and preferably under root, so I dont have to type the password every time?
I want to run zypper without being asked for the root password. So I added the commands to the sudoers file:
Code:
# User alias specification
User_Alias ADMIN = XXXX #note: this is not real username.
# User privilege specification
root ALL = (ALL) ALL
ADMIN ALL = NOPASSWD:/usr/sbin/vpnc ,/usr/sbin/vpnc-disconnect ,/usr/bin/zypper ref ,/usr/bin/zypper up
But I'm still being asked for password. I should note the the vpnc commmand is working as expected.
I get the following error after installing a package. I believe this occurred because zypper attempted to update libxml2 to meet package dependencies.
Code:
Is there any way to manually update the package database to solve this problem?
