Fedora Networking :: Vpnc To Cisco Network / Starting Vpnc From Nm It Performs Exact Same Way And Getting Blackscreen?

Feb 2, 2010

In fc10 & fc11 everything worked well with vpnc.

With fc12 vpnc starts allows me to connect to my work site then everything works fine til I try and start a remote desktop connections to a windows client use tsclient. All I get is a blackscreen and my laptop is hung.

At work without the vpnc it works fine if I start the vpnc from nm it performs the exact same way and I get the blackscreen.

I have disable selinux.I also disabled the firewall

there was another gentlemen on here with the same issue.

The only way out is a hard reboot and there are no messages in the logs that say there were any problems.

Ubuntu Networking :: Vpnc & Network-manager-vpnc Inconsistency?

Jan 13, 2010

I've been trying to connect to my office Cisco VPN several time using the network-manager-vpnc GUI in Ubuntu Karmic with no success. I read a couple of articles and i tried using the direct command line way:

Code:
sudo vpnc office
with the following /etc/vpnc/office.conf file:This is fictional data
Code:
IPSec gateway vpn.office.com
IPSec ID office
IPSec secret 0ff1c3
which worked perfecly.

So i went back to the Network Manager GUI way and i used the same credentials. Same fictional data I got a libnotify message telling me it couldn't connect.Anyone know how i could troubleshoot this issue? Would be great to have it integrated in gnome instead of running a background command which is not tracked by nwm.

Software :: Firefox Is DEAD / Killed By Microsoft?

Jun 19, 2011

I tried Firefox 4, and it really tanks. With each new version, less and less extensions will work anymore. I wonder who the people are who are making the decisions to program out all of the usability of the extensions. The only extension on my installation that I could see and use was NoScript. Gone was Video Downloads, Download Statusbar, the weather, and all the rest. Since extensions where one of the big things that always made Firefox so much better than IE, I'm guessing Satan took over the design of Firefox. I say Satan because I can't imagine any system designer being bone headed enough to do something like that, and still be an I.T. person. So there has to be something evil going on here.

Seriously, what were those people thinking? And what do you think about version 4? I'm going back to 3.5.

OpenSUSE Network :: KDE Hangs When Peer On Nfs Is Offline?

May 27, 2011

I have a couple of nfs shares which I configured through the yast NFS client module. It entered these in my fstab file to start on bootup. A sample entry is:

10.2.1.30:/home/opt/Cindy/homenfsdefaults 0 0

As long as the foreign computer is online all is well. If the foreign computer is taken off line, soon after KDE applications such as Dolphin and the panel freeze, even if I am not using the shares. When the foreign computer comes online again, everything unfreezes on my computer and works fine. Likewise, if the other computer is not online when I boot, there is a long delay while the system waits for the share to come up. Is there something in my configuration that I can change to stop either or both of these problems? I am running 11.4 x86_64 on a wired network with static ip addresses.

OpenSUSE Network :: Vpnc Not Working On 11.4 System?

Sep 1, 2011

I am trying to connect to a vpn through vpnc.

It hangs at the end and I can see in /var/log/messages "modem-manager: (net/tun0) could not get port's parent device" and then eventually "withdrawing workstation service for tun0".

My settings are correct and other people seem to be able to connect.

I am not using KNetworkManager because of an issue on my machine regarding rfkill.

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.2 Vpnc Does Not Handle Split Horizon Properly

Dec 30, 2009

I WAS using opensuse 11.1 with gnome networkmanager and vpnc. I am NOW using opensuse 11.2 with gnome networkmanager and vpnc. When vpn concentrators are configured, they are configured with 'split horizons' (or not). If not, a default route is required from the client to pass ALL client traffic through the vpn connection. (when the connection is established, the vpn client replaces the default route on the client machine to point to the host site) If 'split horizons' is enabled, only the traffic bound for the host site is passed through the vpn connection.

What I have noticed, is since I installed 11.2, the vpn client is NOT enabling split horizon on connections that call for it. In stead, it is putting in a default gateway every time. This is a big problem, because for those sites that are configured for split horizon, doing this means that no Internet traffic will pass unless you manually adjust the route table.

OpenSUSE Network :: Kernel Update Killed Net?

Mar 24, 2010

I am experiencing the "slow internet" problem (mentioned multiple times in these forums) but it started exactly when I ran an online update, which switched my boot image from vmlinuz-2.6.31.12-0.1 to vmlinuz-2.6.31.12-0.2. Perhaps a setting somewhere got overridden? When the update occurred, grub couldn't find the OS because it had the wrong version #, and I manually edited it (via a livedisk) and that fixed it; it also switched my vga resolution in the grub conf. OpenSUSE is *acting* like ipv6 is enabled again, but ifconfig doesn't report that, and my MTU is close to 1500.

We have 3 Ubuntu machines at home and a printer on a Windows machine. How can we best fileshare:

1) between Ubuntu machines
2) reliably between Ubuntu and the Windows machine

Printing across the network is ok except for the Karmic NBR machines but that's another thread.

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Vpnc Connects But Receives Nothing?

Oct 25, 2010

I'm trying to connect to a Cisco VPN at work from Ubuntu 10.10. On earlier versions, I was able to import the config and get it working. In 10.10, though, the best I've gotten is being able to connect to the VPN, see the welcome message, and have packets sent over the tunnel. I don't receive any packets, though.

The command-line vpnc client connects just fine. I found this bug report: [URL]

The symptoms it describes are exactly what I'm seeing. The apparent solution is to "make sure in your config that LZO Compression is enabled (checked) under Advanced"; however I see neither an option for compression nor an "Advanced" tab, button, or anything on my VPN config in Network Manager.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.3 And Monitor Detection?

Jul 22, 2010

I opted to blow away my system (no did not save xorg.conf), and do a clean install of 11.3. Not a big deal to blow it away, nothing lost.

Dell Dimension C521, 3GB RAM, Athlon DualCore
OpenSuse 11.3 x64
Nvidia GeForce 6150LE (on mainboard)
Dell 2048FP 24" Monitor, connected via VGA

When doing the install, all appears to go well. I added the "nomodeset" option after the first boot to avoid the graphics issues. KDE comes up and is in 800x600 mode at 50hz. That is the best resolution it will show. All other options in the configure desktop applet are lower. This monitor was driven at 1900x1200 on the same config with 11.2.

[Code]...

In the nVidia-Settings applet (run as root), it shows the display as "CRT-0". 11.2 showed it as a Dell.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Disable Monitor Detection In 11.4?

Mar 11, 2011

I've just upgraded to 11.4 and found myself with the same problem that I posted in Available resolutions vary depending if monitor is on or off when starting the system I'm using this pc as a server, and I acces to it most of the time via VNC, so the monitor is turned off almost all the time. If the pc boots while monitor is on, i have a resolution of 1280, if it's off I get 1024.

In the previous post I fixed this using the option "CustomEDID" in my xorg.conf, but this time I have no xorg.conf file to put this option in, and even if I did, since I'm using the default drivers (Nouveau, i think) instead of Nvidia oficial ones, i have no clue about how to obtain edid.bin. how to fix this without installing the propietary drivers? (since i don't need ant fancy 3d effects, kde seems to work fine and performance is ok)

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Xrandr Killed Video How Do Get Back

Feb 20, 2010

I have a new machine with OpenSUSE 11.2 and KDE 4.3. I have 2 monitors. The second monitor is set to extend the screen to the right. Everytime I logged on, I had to reset the resolution to auto and set the second monitor to the right. The setup didn't seem to be remembered and kdm definitely fell to the smaller resolution when I logged off. I stopped using krandr because it did strange things (it always seemed to wipe out the setup when I simply started it), and used xrandr. When I queried, using xrandr, it showed the main monitor on DVI0 and the second monitor on VGA2. The hardware and commands used are shown below.

I created a bash script to activate and deactivate the second monitor using the 2 commands below. It was working nicely. On, off, on, off, it was exactly what I wanted. I added it to my KDE auto start through the Computer Setting dialog. I tried it a couple of times in succession but then something happened. The main monitor is gone, and by gone I mean orange light, grub complains about the vga= resolution ("undefined video mode" and doesn't show higher resolutions). I only have the second monitor/VGA2 and when I query xrandr it shows DVI0 shows disconnected!. When I boot, I see the console messages on DVI0, but as soon as it gets to kdm, it switches to VGA2 and DVI0 has no video signal. To add weirdness, when I do a clt-alt-f1 it appears on DVI0.Second Monitor: Sceptre X96-Naga II Resolution: 1280x1024Video: GEFORCE 9600 GT 1GB DDR3Driver: OpenSUSE nvCommands:xrandr --output DVI0 --auto --pos 0x0 --output VGA2 --auto --right-of DVI0xrandr --output DVI0 --auto --pos 0x0 --output VGA2 --off

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Recent Updates Killed Operation Of Canon MP 460 Printer

Jun 7, 2011

I have been running my Canon Pixma MP460 for years on suse linux. Worked fine also after upgrade to suse 11.4. I was running MP460 using MP160 drivers as per some forum information when 460 drivers were not available. Some recent updates, however, have killed operation of my printer. Will not even print a test page. I have tried my old MP160 driver and variations of same and new MP460 drivers from CUPS-Gutenprint.

Consistent error message is: "The PPD version (134566257) is not compatible with Gutenprint 5.2.7."

I downgraded and upgraded CUPS. I have deleted and reinstalled many printer drivers for MP160 and MP460. I have run the "cups-genppdupdate.5.2" per the error log message and other cups update programs in the same directory. Keep getting same message. Printer works when I reboot to windows 7 so hardware has not failed.

System is: Suse 11.4 32 bit w/usb mp460 printer.
Hate to bid farewell to my old faithful printer.
