View 2 RepliesFor some reason is not updating. Not sure why, Use KDE for most everything, but have some GTK apps installed. Not sure where to look to get past this error message. I've checked in yast and all the updates are there. did a rpm --rebuilddb, but this hasnt resolved the issue.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI ran an update after installing the OpenSuse 11.2 Gnome Live CD and could not start Gnome.Signing in would only get me a blank screen with wallpaper.Changing the display manager in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager to kdm (from the default gdm) resolves this issue for me:DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm"

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just reinstalled my OpenSuse 11.3 with the GNOME desktop. As soon as I was done installing and I was on a fresh desktop, I installed the Yast updates that were available, rebooted, and now I can't login to any of my User accounts. Whenever I try to login, it tells me that it is "Unable to Open Session".o any of you know how I can fix this without having to reinstall all over again

View 1 Replies View Relatedi had the problem that i couldn't surf access the internet while DNS and PING worked well. That i solved with ipv6.disable=1 at boot time. Now i can suf the internet with a browser but YAST is still unable to access the repositories which are accessible with a browser. Can someone please help me what the problem with YAST is?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI cannot download the timezone RPM(and other RPM's) from several repositories(I haven't found ANY that will allow me to DL the timezone RPM's and I have checked 8 so far!) This breaks the update as it will stall on any of the undownloadable(new word for O.E.D. undownloadable) RPM's
This was noted in the thread Yast vs system tray.
I am trying to update four OpenSUSE 10.3 servers. This worked once on one server, but I have been unable to repeat that success. I use yast's Online Update to select repositories, but at the end of the repository refresh they keep coming back with 'No active update source is available. Exit Online Update now?' I get this error:
Download failed: File /repodata/repomod.xml not found on media: [URL]
It appears to connect to remote repositories, but always fails. Is it realistic for me to expect to update 10.3, or is it a lost cause? I am not ready to jump to 11 yet, but I am required to update them. I am a newb, so I am not clear on the process. Are package versions locked in place for specific versions of OpenSUSE? If so, how can I find out what the final versions were for 10.3 so that I can at least tell my auditors that they are as up-to-date as they can be?
I've installed opensuse 11.3 on my computer (well actually Ive done it twice, once with full DVD image and once with network install). Everything was OK until Ive made update (yast/software/online update <-- BTW kupdate applet isn't working, just update bar appear and stuck on 0%). i haven't installed any additional packages, only the defaults (KDE desktop). after update only fail safe option is working (booting normally and looks like normal desktop, no visual differences between normal and fail safe booting, if there should been any). When I've tried to find solution for this problem, very ofter answers were -> graphic drivers problem (im using ati hd 4670 AGP <-- yea, AGP . well when i start normal boot green screen with lizard logo appear, then screen goes black for a second or two, then the green screen come again, and after another few second screen goes black permanently with working hdd for 30-40 second (hdd led blinking) BTW i have windows7 pro (booting fine) on this machine too, it was installed as first system on hd0,0. opensuse was installed on stand alone PATA disk (secondary EIDE master, ODD on slave). how to gather info which u all need to get this problem more detailed. PS> sorry for my English, its not my native language.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI did the latest update on the opensuse 11.4 other day and since then my USB drive is not mounting. initially I thought its gone because my son dropped on the floor. But then when I plugged it to Windows 7 machine it mounted then I plugged it into another Ubuntu 10.10 machine it mounted so I figured out the there is some issue in the latest update. I have all the VMs in this drive and my main laptop is with OpenSuse 11.4
View 9 Replies View RelatedI used the zypper dup tool to upgrade my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop and my display is now broken into columns and partially obscured. I can barely see anything on it. When I ran zypper it stopped about half way and locked up.I then ran it again to completion. At boot, GRUB gives me my startup options as before and is clearly readable with good resolution. When I select openSuse to start it, the screen goes blank for a few seconds and then comes back with the screen problems.
The problem continues all the way into KDE. I have approximately four columns displayed but I can barely see anything. Most of the lower half of what should be displayed is obscured so I cannot load any applications. If I right click, I can make out the dialog box and select the run command. From there I reran the zypper command using the 'zypper up rpm' option and it says "nothing to do" and the "highest update version is already installed."
The display problem also exists if I use the failsafe boot option. I remember having to download nVidia driver last year to get a better resolution, but 11.2 (64 bit) worked great until the repositories stopped working and I no longer was able to load software. Now I can't use the computer to download and burn a DVD version of 11.4. Again, I do seem to be able to use the terminal, so I could presumably fix something with it if I had the right commands and I do seem to have access to the repositories.
Things were running fine until GNOME misbehaved;
GNOME failed to load telling me:
Install error, Configuration defaults for GNOME power manager have not been installed correctly.
So I
Code:
To the shell and check the logs in gdm and find this:
Could not ask power manager if user can suspend, launch helper exited with unknown return code 0.
So I try
Code:
To see if another user will get the desktop; I get the error
Cant create etc/passwd no space left on device.
So I
Code:
And get the following
I insert a usb drive to prepare for back up; Run
Code:
On the shell to get the usb device name; Then run
Code:
To mount the device.
I end up with:
Cant create lock file /etc/mtab~ 4610 No space left on device(use -n flag to override)
So, I
Code:
And see 9 partitionitions
Code:
Again to check which ones are loaded at boot up time and get
plus some other file systems mounted at boot up, but not mapping to any physical partitionition.
I try
Code:
On partition9 and get warnings because its mounted, so I chicken out and try
Code:
And run into the error:
cant create lock file /etc/mtab~4832 no space left on device (use -n flag to override)
Good thing is there is a
Code:
Since space is a problem, I
Code:
On partition6 which is not mounted at boot up time and try to
Code:
I still get the error
cant create lock file /etc/mtab~4735 no space left on device (use -n flag to override
Code:
For package update tells me
cant open /var/run/zypp.pid in mode w
Code:
For power management tells me its not even recognised as a command.

View 9 Replies View Relatedsince the last SuSE online update (last Wednesday?) the X server no longer starts on our notebook (ATI HD 4200) so we only have the consoles available, which limits the WAF heavily . We were using SuSE 11.3 with the Gnome desktop for about one months and it worked smoothly, but since the update (which included a kernel update to 2.6.34.7-0.7) the X server tries to start 5 times and then gives up. All logfiles end with:
Code:

I used the ati driver ati-fglrxG02-kmp-desktop, version 8.762_k2.6.34.0_12-31.1 from the ATI Suse repository. To solve the problem I already switched to the Xorg driver which lead to a color distorted display but no segmentation fault. But I'd like to get the ati driver running again.
I have updated GNOME 3 and it no longer works. Having suspected extensions the problem I have manually uninstalled all extensions via command line. This got me to log in instead of the problem screen. However, the desktop is entirely unresponsive, after log in it no longer responds to anything, although the mouse still tracks.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy openSUSE 11.4 adventure continues apace, and is brilliant! However, recently the Gnome 3 Software Updater has begun to show me an update I cannot get and actually I don't think I need. It doesn't turn up when updating via YAST, which is fine, but sometimes the Software Updater is a handy thing, and I don't know why this should appear.
The update is xorg-X11-server - Mesa 4546 noarch. This seems to be for Radeon and RadeonHD cards, of which as an Nvidia user I have neither. Like I say when using YAST there's no sign of it, but it just turns up in the Gnome 3 Software Updater every day. If I try to install it it tells me there are failed dependency resolutions and it doesn't install it. Is there anything I can do to remove this unwanted update from the Gnome 3 updater?
I manage a computer remotely in a different country. The last upgrade I did (to openSUSE 11.2) seems to have had one issue that I didn't work out until later. I am unable to "Online Update" or "Software Manage" the system. Whenever I do I get the following error:
[Code]....
I have been through a number of attempted fixes via the thread 434687-software-repository-corruption but have not managed to resolve the issue. There is no one at the location that could repeat the "update" to hopefully fix the issue that way. I have a copy of the 11.2 DVD iso file on the remote computer. Is there some way that I can get the repository DB rebuilt or reinstalled so that I can then install other software and do Online Updates? Whatever I try has to be doable with the system running so that I can OpenVPN connect and issue commands remotely.
when I launch Yast2 - Online Update, I get an error during the repository refresh that it could refresh the repository.Since it's easier to copy-paste - here is the output from 'zypper ref' with the same error:

I have a minor problem with my "Update Applet 2.28.0" in Gnome. It occurs when I want to make the applet do one or more suggested update(s). It always asks me for the password of superuser/root: "Authenticate : Authentication is required to update packages. [...]". I think under my installation before (11.1 maybe updated from an older version) I could tell the automatic/semi automatic updater to remember the su password (in YaST or in the authentication dialog?).
In the help manual on my computer (and in the internet) there is the possibility to make the updater remember the password via policy kit: ("Access to all privileged operations is controlled via PolicyKit." See: GNOME Documentation Library : gnome-packagekit Manual : Introduction) I could not find any policy kid or any other possibility to give to the automatic updater (or its user) that privilege permanently (=to remember authorization). I think on a system with more (real) users this could be a real problem (not just an inconvenience).
I have unstable installed and wanting to play around with gnome 3 but I am having trouble. When I go to synaptic or terminal and try and install I can not find gnome 3. Here is my sources.list

I have tried to install gnome-sell in ubuntu 10.04 but I found that this package can't install it (libgjs0) when I tried to install it this message appeared
PHP Code:
libgjs0: Depends: xulrunner-1.9.2 (<=1.9.2.4~) but 1.9.2.16+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.04.1 is to be installed
I've been having this problem for a while now. Every time I try to update using
Code:
zypper up
or even by using YaST it stops midway. For example in using Zypper I get the following error
Code:
Retrieving: 11.2 [error]
Error: Download interrupted at 81%
History:
- [AbstractCommand.cc:195] URI=http://opensuse.uib.no/update/11.2/repodata/4ec3f2acdd863958479cbacbb5bc19f939e35099-deltainfo.xml.gz and it gives a list of URL's like the above.
I don't know what's wrong as I only have the following repositories, Packman, updates for opensuse 11.2, non-oss, oss. The URL for the update repository is Index of /update/11.2
I try to find a rpm for kmplayer from here, but there are all for KDE? Software.openSUSE.org I am using opensuse 11.2 + Gnome desktop, which rpm should I use?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using F14 and when I try to update I get this report-
' no such table: packages'
and when I try using add/remove software I get this
'failed to use search generator: no such table: packages'
what these mean. I don't want to take guesses and do something wrong.
Added- searches produce this thread as number one topic others give me very little if anything to go on.
I cannot install gnome. It complains about swfdec-mozilla needing to be installed, I install it, and it now needs epiphany-extensions, which uninstalls swfdec-mozilla.
So there are conflicting dependencies. Could someone fix this?
I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 and am running gnome desktop. I have tried to install Quantas Pro using Ubuntu Software Center and synaptic unsuccessfully. I see from researching the forums that it is possible but I need specific instructions. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I have read that I will need a lot of dependencies. How do I load the KDE dependencies with Quantas? I assumed I had not loaded the needed KDE dependencies for Gnome.

Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time.
