OpenSUSE :: Unable To Update - Gets An Error

Jul 3, 2010

I've been having this problem for a while now. Every time I try to update using

Code:
zypper up

or even by using YaST it stops midway. For example in using Zypper I get the following error

Code:
Retrieving: 11.2 [error]
Error: Download interrupted at 81%
History:
- [AbstractCommand.cc:195] URI=http://opensuse.uib.no/update/11.2/repodata/4ec3f2acdd863958479cbacbb5bc19f939e35099-deltainfo.xml.gz and it gives a list of URL's like the above.

I don't know what's wrong as I only have the following repositories, Packman, updates for opensuse 11.2, non-oss, oss. The URL for the update repository is Index of /update/11.2

OpenSUSE :: Mozilla Seamonkey 2.1 Update - Unable To Use Some Add-ons Or Extensions

Jun 12, 2011

Today I did the Seamonkey 2.1 update. I found out that some of the add-ons or extensions did not work. They were disabled, due to incompatible versions. I found out a simple solution. I hope this helps some. This helped me with the Webdeveloper, fxif and Novell Moonlight extensions. In the file install.rdf is an element called MaxVersion. Change this to 2.1.* and the extensions work again.

The file install.rdf is to be found in ~/.mozilla/seamonkey/user-thingies.default/extensions/{extensioncode}

The changed code for Moonlight looks like this:

Code:

<Description>
<em:id>{92650c4d-4b8e-4d2a-b7eb-24ecf4f6b63a}</em:id>
<em:minVersion>2.0b1</em:minVersion>
<em:maxVersion>2.1.*</em:maxVersion>
</Description>

Good luck if you are a Seamonkey user.

OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Find Active Update Repository For 10.3

Aug 12, 2010

I am trying to update four OpenSUSE 10.3 servers. This worked once on one server, but I have been unable to repeat that success. I use yast's Online Update to select repositories, but at the end of the repository refresh they keep coming back with 'No active update source is available. Exit Online Update now?' I get this error:
Download failed: File /repodata/repomod.xml not found on media: [URL]

It appears to connect to remote repositories, but always fails. Is it realistic for me to expect to update 10.3, or is it a lost cause? I am not ready to jump to 11 yet, but I am required to update them. I am a newb, so I am not clear on the process. Are package versions locked in place for specific versions of OpenSUSE? If so, how can I find out what the final versions were for 10.3 so that I can at least tell my auditors that they are as up-to-date as they can be?

OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Boot After Online Update Option?

Dec 17, 2010

Everything was OK until Ive made update (yast/software/online update <-- BTW kupdate applet isn't working, just update bar appear and stuck on 0%). i haven't installed any additional packages, only the defaults (KDE desktop). after update only fail safe option is working (booting normally and looks like normal desktop, no visual differences between normal and fail safe booting, if there should been any). When I've tried to find solution for this problem, very ofter answers were -> graphic drivers problem (im using ati hd 4670 AGP <-- yea, AGP . well when i start normal boot green screen with lizard logo appear, then screen goes black for a second or two, then the green screen come again, and after another few second screen goes black permanently with working hdd for 30-40 second (hdd led blinking) BTW i have windows7 pro (booting fine) on this machine too, it was installed as first system on hd0,0. opensuse was installed on stand alone PATA disk (secondary EIDE master, ODD on slave). how to gather info which u all need to get this problem more detailed. OpenSUSE :: Update Causes PhpMyAdmin Error?

Jul 13, 2011

The past couple of updates have messed up my localhost phpMyAdmin application. After the update I get the following error. Cannot start session without errors, please check errors given in your PHP and/or webserver log file and configure your PHP installation properly.

I have the old files backed up and when I restore them everything is ok. Why doesn't the update work? I figured it had to be a path or permissions problem. I gave unrestricted access to all users on all files and it still does not work. I found a php script in a phpMyAdmin wiki and it gives me this: If a session could be started successfully you should not see any Warning(s), otherwise check the path/folder mentioned in the warning(s) for proper access rights. The current "session.save_path" is "/var/lib/php5". Session file name: "sess_dee3dp1j6takbdtpvl702nbcptdivh82". which seems to me to say everything is cool pathwise.

OpenSUSE Install :: Update From 11.2 To 11.4 - Unable To Get Correct Display Using Zypper Tool?

Jul 10, 2011

I used the zypper dup tool to upgrade my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop and my display is now broken into columns and partially obscured. I can barely see anything on it. When I ran zypper it stopped about half way and locked up.I then ran it again to completion. At boot, GRUB gives me my startup options as before and is clearly readable with good resolution. When I select openSuse to start it, the screen goes blank for a few seconds and then comes back with the screen problems.

The problem continues all the way into KDE. I have approximately four columns displayed but I can barely see anything. Most of the lower half of what should be displayed is obscured so I cannot load any applications. If I right click, I can make out the dialog box and select the run command. From there I reran the zypper command using the 'zypper up rpm' option and it says "nothing to do" and the "highest update version is already installed."

The display problem also exists if I use the failsafe boot option. I remember having to download nVidia driver last year to get a better resolution, but 11.2 (64 bit) worked great until the repositories stopped working and I no longer was able to load software. Now I can't use the computer to download and burn a DVD version of 11.4. Again, I do seem to be able to use the terminal, so I could presumably fix something with it if I had the right commands and I do seem to have access to the repositories.

OpenSUSE Install :: Kernel Update Also In Error On 11.2?

Sep 26, 2010

After the lastest update 11.2 also suffers from the problem already reported here for 11.3. I am lucky to have two linux partitions and was actualy able to boot into the second partition. From this second system I could repair this or at least a quick-n-dirty fallback to be able to boot.

1. Copied the 2.6.21.12-0.2 version for initrd and vmlinuz from /boot to /first_partition/boot
2. Copied the /first_partition/boot/grub/menu.lst.old to /first_partition/boot/grub/menu.lst to reset to the old menu.

After boot the system could start but modules were not loaded.

3. copied /lib/modules/2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop from the second partition to the first.
4. The same for /usr/src/linux-2.6.31.12-0.2*

Now my system will boot and start modules such as network and sound. Still, was this correct? I don't know for sure if there are some issues that I haven't discovered yet. And obviously, what will happen with future updates (either kernel or other)?

OpenSUSE Install :: Crash During Update - RPM Failed Error

Jan 1, 2011

So I installed this system with the net install disk. I really don't want to do that again. It said it needed one update shortly after install and I figured that a net install would pretty much be up to date and I would be fine to wait on that for a day or two. Wrong. I used bit torrent for about 20 hours and downloaded ~60 GB's to the external hard drive. After a while while clicked the little update button closed every thing else then hit apply.

Walk off, come back and the computer is completely non-responsive and the monitor is not getting a feed from the tower. Not even any num-lock blinky light action on the key board. I gave it a minute or two to show any kind of life then turned it off. It came back on well enough to get online and post this but, like the title indicates, that package manager appears to be broken in some way. In Debian based systems there is a command that clears this up. Is there an equivalent for this distro?

I attempted to finish the update but got this error:
Code:
installation of package failed.
Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: package NetworkManager-glib-0.8-7.4.i586 is not installed.

Why not just disable that update and see what happens? That's what I said; heres what happens:
Code:
Installation of package failed.
Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: db3 error(-30987) from dbcursor->c_get: DB_PAGE_NOTFOUND: Requested page not found
error: error(-30987) getting "" records from Requireversion index
error: db3 error(-30987) from dbcursor->c_get: DB_PAGE_NOTFOUND: Requested page not found
error: error(-30987) getting "" records from Requireversion index .....

The above pertains to a fire fox update of some kind. I still have the install disk handy but would rather not wait the 3 hours it takes to download the packages. How I can fix this. I switched from Ubuntu to SUSE because it is supported by online learning soft ware I have access to.
