From the start-up manual I know the Firmware Test Starts a BIOS checker that validates ACPI and other parts of your BIOS. I noticed there are 3 failures in the result. (The font size on the screen is too small for me to read.) I got stuck in trying to save to either of the two choices provided with names I don't understand. I had to use the three-finger salute to bail me out.

After installing 64 bit 11.2 with no apparent problems: computer hangs up on desktop boot opensuse 11.2-2.6.31.5-0.1, however I can boot from failsafe opensuse 11.2-2.6.31.5-0.1. I had problems trying to install Ubuntu so I checked out the opensuse. I do not know if this is an easy fix! I decided to avoid buying anymore windows system software. I ran memory test with no problems. The firmware test reported 4 errors. I have windows XP installed on other hard drive - no problems there.

Replaced my memory stick and just for grins ran a firmware test and I don't understand this:[Fail] Failed to locate HPET base [Fail] OS/2 memory hole test-The memory map has a memory hole between 15mb & 16mb.
Re-ran MEMTEST just to make sure my new memory was fine, no errors.My Linux OS appears to be running slower on boot-up than normal, What documentation there is on the internet on HPET is over my head.I ran SMART on the both drives. They were good. So I am a little stumpted.
i have fedora distribution running in my virtual machine. I installed sectool- .9.5-1.fc13.i686.rpm & sectool-gui-0.9.5-1.fc13.i686.rpm (the gui of the tool)
Then i modified the file /etc/selinux/conf to change the selinux from enforce to disabled (so the test can be run) the prob now, each time i try to lunch the package to get a test result... it takes so long time without result even if i choose 1 test only as u can see in the attached file. I've been waiting for more than 1 hour with no result
I am using apache pdfbox box 1.5 with openjdk i.6.0_0 on opensuse 11.4 32-bit (minimal install, as provided by amazon ec2). The problem is that when I use the apache pdfbox tool to convert a pdf to an image the image is blank. I am using the exact same application on opensuse 11.2 (default install from opensuse 11.2 dvd) with no problems. I suspect there are issues caused by uninstalled packages. I installed several font packages and Image manipulation packages with no success.

I am trying to install OpenSuse 11.3 64-bit version on a Macbook Pro (5,4 firmware 1.8). The laptop will only run Linux and no OSX so I want to use the entire disk for OpenSuse. With that in mind, during install I switch to expert mode:
1. Delete all partitions
2. Create a new "msdos" partition table
3. Create sda1 as ext4, format and mount "/" on it
4. Create sda2 and assign it as swap partition
5. Continue the remaining install as normal.
After reboot, grub loads up but boot hangs at:
Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format
For context, I have tried Fedora and Ubuntu on this laptop and both hang at "Uncompression Error -- System halted" error. I ran memtest on the laptop and all LiveCDs run fine on it so that rules out hardware issues. My guess is that with Fedora and Ubuntu, both use grub2 and there is some complication with grub2. CentOS and OpenSuse seem to use grub and that gets me as far as loading the kernel but then boot hangs after initrd loading at the error above.
I want to install opensuse 11.3, and I get a newer computer to install it(X64), but every time I install, I have been stop at "saving bootloader config" (96%). I have waited for a long time, but no use.

Why would this happen if I just installed opensuse using the internet? It looks to me as if opensuse can already figure out how to use my network card. I went ahead and skipped the test, but it still doesn't make any sense to me. Let's see if internet works once I'm logged in...

Do you think I botched an installation?
I've tried to determine what actual files are affected via the two applets with the thought that maybe I don't have the necessary permissions on them or that I can throw a bandaid on it with a start-up task to overwrite them. Alas, I've got nuthin'

Retries also failed, leading me to conclude, mistakenly, that the ethernet card was not supported by SuSE 11.2. Finally I elected to skip the test, resigned to the loss of internet access. The install program then proceeded to access online repositories without difficulty, and I had no further difficulty accessing the internet. So why the misleading test result?

I know the issue is attributed to the R600_rlc.bin located in /lib/firmware/R600_rlc.bin. I attempt to make some config changes but the file is in binary. It could be a problem associated with the creation of the initrd but not certain. It's a dual-boot system running Windows 7 on the other partition

I hate having to configure the firewall, runlevels, samba shares, samba workgroup, apparmor, and all the other junk after every install. View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running 11.3 with KDE. I'm not sure when this happened, but I can no longer run firefox. If I click on the firefox icon, the bouncing icon appears, runs for a minute and then disappears. If I actually type in /usr/bin/firefox, nothing happens, and I get the prompt back in a fraction of a second.
I note that /usr/bin/firefox is a softlink to /usr/lib/firefox/firefox.sh which apparently runs the _actual_ executable: /usr/lib/firefox/firefox. I tried running that directly with exactly the same result.
I can run firefox normally if logged in as root. I can also run it via /usr/bin/firefox and /usr/lib/firefox/firefox. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling firefox. No change. I'm running 3.10.xxxx and the problem _may_ have started with a recent update to 3.10 , but I can't be certain. I downloaded firefox 4.0 beta and it works, but it doesn't support many addons (like flash), so it's not very useful to me.

I have been using another version of linux for long time. But recent edition of that particular linux does not support my wifi any more. Just recently i have tried SuSE and almost fell in love with it. The only problem, WIFI.
I got a Linksys WUSB54GC USB wifi stick which uses RT2800USB native driver. I installed SuSE from the scratch and it found the wifi stick installed the drivers. My only problem is it does not scan for wireless networks. I haev two wifi networks around here. I can connect to them with windows computer with the same wifi stick.
I have tried iwconfig iwlist ifup but i am stuck exactly what to do.

Just purchased this USB wifi NIC. installs and work perfect under Win XP, how ever I can't seem to get working on my opensuse 11.3
Network manager did not recognize the NIC out of the box (still doesn't) so I started trawling the forum and I've read both wireless 'stickys'.
When out of the box did not work I installed the rt3070sta-kmp-desktop - RT3070 Wireless Lan Linux Driver from the repos.

after installing Ubuntu Natty Narwhal 11.04, I'm experiencing tons and tons of complications with the wireless Internet connection. I have solved most of them. Now I have only one thing left. When I hit the drop-down menu for wireless connections, it says "Wireless connection (Firmware missing)"

Since the system is not permitted to access the net, my proposed plan is to download the updates repository using my Windows XP system, burn it to DVD and then transfer the repository to the openSUSE system this way.Scanning the internet, I can find plenty of guides which describe how to download repositories using YaST and zypper, but nothing that describes how to resolve my (admittedly unusual) problem
