General :: Arch Update Failed - Error "firmware: /lib/firmware/radeon/R700_rlc.bin Exists In Filesystem Note That In The Beginning"
Jul 4, 2010
I can't my system because of this error: Code: linux-firmware: /lib/firmware/radeon/R700_rlc.bin exists in filesystem Note that in the beginning, it asks:
Code: :: Replace kernel26-firmware with core/linux-firmware? [Y/n] There are so many updates by now that the list fills in a few pages in the terminal! Also, I wonder why so many Arch updates get stuck or broken compared to almost any other distro? Is it poorly designed packages? Is it a design flaw in pacman/the package format?

Fedora 12, Kernel 2.6.33 stable. When i compile this kernel with radeon and KMS enabled i get the following:it take a whole minute for it to fall back to non kms setting, but what worse is the it won't find the damned firmware. i have this bin file almost every directory (/lib/firmware(redeon)) have in the the main source tree of the kernel before compiling and after. i tried to build it into the kernel (ext_firmware) blobs but no F...ing luck.
i've googled all night alongside compiling new kernel with diff settings (10 hours O.o run ) and no luck... there was something on mailing list the they are not going to include this firmware in the kernel ever(only git or something) and placingfirmware into the appropriate directory should fix everything. On the side note: i had Arch linux installed just recently (dont ask why i have swithched arch was perfect but: not LSB , thus ..well doesnt matter) nad i had 2.6.33.rc8 installed with KMS and all was freaking perfect... it had no problem finding that stupid firmware..

after installing Ubuntu Natty Narwhal 11.04, I'm experiencing tons and tons of complications with the wireless Internet connection. I have solved most of them. Now I have only one thing left. When I hit the drop-down menu for wireless connections, it says "Wireless connection (Firmware missing)"
I have installed the driver for my wireless card but what is the firmware? I honestly don't know what it is although it's very basic. I have a Broadcom 43xx as my wireless card (specifically 4306). How do I get the firmware for it? Do I find it in Windows? Also I cannot get b43-fwcutter because I have absolutely to Internet connection on Ubuntu. To post this, I'm using Windows.

I installed openSuSe 11.4 on a Lenovo W500 and noticed this error message upon bootup. The desktop login doesn't make it to the screen. I went into fail-safe mode as root. I know the issue is attributed to the R600_rlc.bin located in /lib/firmware/R600_rlc.bin. I attempt to make some config changes but the file is in binary. It could be a problem associated with the creation of the initrd but not certain. It's a dual-boot system running Windows 7 on the other partition

i had recently loaded squeeze and had an issue with the 2d performance.i.e when being prompted for the root password, the shading slowly draws down the screen several times before stopping at the final darker shade. i then added the linux-firmware-nonfree package. all worked extremely well, even compiz, but i don't really care about compiz. i just loaded it to see how it performed. i then distro-hopped a bit and when i came back to squeeze the first thing i did was add the package, but the video is acting like i haven't added the package. i've searched for an answer, but have not found anything recent to indicate if xorg was upgraded or what.stable lenny works fine, but i'd rather have the nice console fonts when not in x and more up to date apps like gimp and xsane in squeeze.

I need to access each drive of a RAID array in order to update the firmware - I am completely new to linux. I think there are probably some potential challanges along the way to get this "working" For example, it seems to me that the array may present itself to application code as a single device. I need to drill down into the RAID and talk to each physical device in turn via some sort of pass-through mechanism. I'm currently pretty lost - can anyone point me in the "right" direction

If you have a Radeon graphics chip and upgrade to Jessie, install firmware-linux-nonfree, before rebooting.
My dist-upgrade to Jessie seemed flawless until I rebooted and couldn't get into X.
Seems Jessie boots into Gnome by default, but Gnome now requires 3-D acceleration. For my Radeon graphics chip (ATI Radeon 3100), this requires firmware-linux-nonfree, which I didn't need before and was not installed as part of the upgrade.
A boot message alerted me to this need.
I was able to get X going with xinit. I used FVWM; for XFCE I believe the command is:
xinit /usr/bin/xfce4-session -- :1
and from there I installed the package firmware-linux-nonfree.

Is this card supported in Squeeze by either the non-free firmware or the proprietary driver? I just got one to stick into an older box that will be going to a college girl that wants the 3D desktop in KDE. The built-in video was a joke and wouldn't even work without compositing. It was one of those crappy, non-standard pieces of crap known as a "Unichrome" (not the pro).

I ran a firmware test, after I discovered a bad memory stick on a 1 gb stick. Replaced my memory stick and just for grins ran a firmware test and I don't understand this:[Fail] Failed to locate HPET base [Fail] OS/2 memory hole test-The memory map has a memory hole between 15mb & 16mb.
Re-ran MEMTEST just to make sure my new memory was fine, no errors. My Linux OS appears to be running slower on boot-up than normal, What documentation there is on the internet on HPET is over my head.I ran SMART on the both drives. They were good. So I am a little stumpted.

Sony currently only supplies its NEX cameras with .exe binary firmware updates. Prior to purchasing the camera, I installed Wine and was able to execute the .exe. Of course, that doesn't guarantee that it'll work. Now, with the camera in hand, I actually tried to update the firmware. It didn't work. I tried using Wine 1.1.28 and 1.3.3 and even the cloned the Wine repository with git and compiling Wine with USB patches I found here: [URL] (Wine git, compile and install found here: USB - The Official Wine Wiki)
With the camera connected, I was able to use "wineconsole cmd" to open a dos shell. In the shell, I was able to see that the D: drive (which I assigned to /media/disk) was correctly accessing the camera as a mass storage device. I can only conclude that USB support works. However, it doesn't appear to work for updating the firmware. The firmware program from Sony searches for about a minute and doesn't find the camera. When I run the firmware updater with Wine, Wine produces these files:
[Code]....
The .dat file looks most likely to be the data I want to dump to the camera, but how? (I've done some research and have read that the data is probably encrypted.)

Im trying to form a gaming comumunity on facebook around the issue of PlayStations new 3.21 firmware, if we can get enough members and we are able show a large enough fan base for the retaining of the OtherOS while also being able to access the PSN were hoping Sony will reinstate the feature. Its a long shot but if you at LinuxQuestions could join the group and also pass the link around hopefully we can at least do something.

I've installed Debian Squeeze on my server several days ago. During install process installer asked me to provide USB flash drive with firmware aic94xx-seq.fw. All went fine. Today I installed all updates to my system with "U" in aptitude. Aptitude installed kernel update 2.6.32-5 and created initrd accordingly. But now I can't boot up my system because it can't find LVM volumes on harddrive connected to Adaptec RAID card. How can I boot my system now? I have USB with firmware.
I have netboot CD. Unfortunately when I tried to edit boot records in grub I found that there is no my old kernel anymore. The only kernel grub sees is the new vmlinuz kernel and new initrd How take make my server alive?

I have a Trendnet TEW652BRP wireless router, HW/ V2.1R, FW/ V2.00b34. I have read that these routers had a problem, with the stock firmware, where port forwarding was concerned. And indeed, I do have some problems with it. Ie; canyouseeme.org can't see me when I open ports, and I am not on a proxy server. I have tried this with the appropriate exception rules (in/out) in ufw, and on the router settings with UPnP enabled and disabled. In the latter case, I also tried router firewall rules, port forwarding and access rules. Still could not see me (timed out in all cases).
Now, this being an area I have little experience with, I am not sure if this version of firmware was supposed to have fixed the PF problems. To the questions...
1. Has anyone here who had an analogous experience found a solution, with the stock firmware?
2. I have read about the DD-WRT option to flash the router firmware (which says fixes the issue), but I am wary. I believe this is a Linux based replacement firmware, which is not a bad thing in my book, but does anyone have any recommendations or heads up on issues with it, from experience, apart from what is commented in the documentation at [URL]

I'd like to install Ubuntu 10.10 in my laptop. So, I downloaded the iso file and burned into CD. I'd like to install into D drive since I use Windows Vista in C drive.
Below is the specification of my laptop.
Mobile AMD processor 2 G HZ, 1G RAM 32-bit Windows Vista Home basic
Harddisk C : 46 G (18giga free), D : 10 G (10giga free) How can I make partition and where should I start with, either Beginning or End of existing partition? SWAP? I watched a few videos but stlll can't grasp clearly how to do. I tried to boot w/ Live CD. But I didn't see the 4 different options: Try out without installing, Memory test, Ubuntu Disk test, Install Ubuntu, and Booting w/ harddisk. I had only 2 options; Try out w/o installing, Installing. Why is it so?
In addition, while booting w/ Live CD, I saw a message as following:
Error: b43.../firmware file not found.. something like this.. it was too fast to catch! However, I went on and show its desktop screen. May I not be able to install in my laptop? Does my laptop have any faulty disk or memory? I wonder. Finally, I use Wireless connection in the library so when I boot with Live CD, then internet is disconnected. Should I need to be connected before installing?
