OpenSUSE Install :: Saving The Result From The Firmware Test Of 11.2 DVD?

Jul 12, 2010

From the start-up manual I know the Firmware Test Starts a BIOS checker that validates ACPI and other parts of your BIOS. I noticed there are 3 failures in the result. (The font size on the screen is too small for me to read.) I got stuck in trying to save to either of the two choices provided with names I don't understand. I had to use the three-finger salute to bail me out.

Ubuntu Security :: No Alert Found In Result From Snort

I have installed snort + mysql + acid base, I add some rules into /etc/snort/rules/local.rules to test the alert:

I see the packet transmitted and received (the received conten "abcdefgh" ), when I stopped snort CTRL+C I don't found any alert in the result!!! Run time prior to being shutdown was 218.523030 seconds.

Security :: Centos 5.5 / Rkhunter Result In Logwatch Mail

Apr 20, 2011

I have a server, running Centos 5.5. It runs daily rkhunter and logwatch. From both I get a daily mail.

I have a desktop computer, running Fedora 13 (almost 14...). It runs also a daily rkhunter and logwatch. But I get ONE mail from logwatch, which contains the result of rkhunter.

On the server, I want also only mail from logwatch, containing the rkhunter results. But so far, no luck.

How can I get the rkhunter results in the logwatch mail on my Centos server?

General :: Launch Firefox 7.0a1 Nightly Build From A .bz2 Package?

Jul 5, 2011

I got Thunderbird 5.0a2 Beta because it had the file that runs it in there, but I can't find it anywhere in the Firefox Nightly Build one. There's also no config file in there either, and I don't want to replace my Aurora 6.0a2 Beta with the very unstable Alpha until I try it out. I would try it in the Virtual Machine but it'd take too long to set it all up.

[URL]

I downloaded the .bz2 file and Archiver extracted it for me. I remember in Slackware you just use installpkg on .bz2 files... Or was it .gz... I forget, anyway, how can I run Nightly-Build? Run-Mozilla.sh opens my Aurora browser.

Fedora Security :: Some Applications Won't Launch After Update (10)?

Mar 25, 2009

Today (25 of March) Fedora 10 asked to install latest security updates. I allowed it to install them and everything seemed ok. But after the next boot I understood that some applications won't launch. Skype, last.fm player, VirtualBox - all the qt ones. I've reinstalled those apps, and reinstalled qt. They still don't launch. When I execute one of them from terminal - it just waits and nothing happens. The process really starts, I can see it from ps -A and gnome's System Monitor. Here's the /var/log/yum.log for March 25th:

Mar 25 00:20:37 Updated: libX11-1.1.5-1.fc10.i386

And restarted Firefox (even rebooted), but it doesn't seem to be working. When I open Firefox I am able to perform a "Save Page As" in locations I shouldn't be able to, like my Desktop or Pictures folder.

The following command says the Firefox process is in enforce mode:

Of the following lines, the only directory which is "rw" is /Downloads, why am I still able to write to other places?

Code:

OS: Ubuntu 10.10

Can someone with an active Firefox profile do this simple test for me? Click File -> Save As and try to save somewhere the Apparmor profile shouldn't let you, and let me know the results.

Security :: Reflective DDos ( DrDoS ) Test Tool?

Mar 2, 2011

Well someone has been putting up this attack on my game-server ports. For those of you who don't know what type of attack this is, so its an attack which is actually masked to us because the attacker uses his machine to send packets to a machine called source which reflects the packets to destination. Based on this, the UDP port under Flood at the destination starts making outgoing connections to that IP and gets rejected which uses up more than 5mb/second bandwidth instantly.

I've worked out on some security for this and now need a tool to test this against my machine. I've used PentBox but that's not really powerful to do anything. As I search Google, I find something called Trinoo but can't download or test it.

Programming :: MySQL Security - Remove The Ability To Make Test Databases?

Sep 29, 2010

I know very little about MySQL, but I've got some users that need it for testing on a Linux server. So I had set it up a while back, but now I'm running into some small problems.Right now, each user has his own database that I created and can do whatever with it. Each user only sees their own database.I didn't want them to be able to create new databases at all, but they can and when they do anyone can see them.

EDIT(Apparently they can only create databases beginning with the word "test" in the name)

I need to either:

1) Stop them from creating new databases (without affecting their ability to interact with the existing database)

OR

2) Make it so that when they create a database, only they have privileges on it and only they can see it (except mysql root of course).

Anybody know the statement to set these kinds privileges up?

EDIT: pfft... I've a read a bit more and realize that this is an intended part of the installation.

EDIT2

I'd still like to remove the ability to make test databases.

EDIT3:Ok, for reference this is how you prevent users from making and using test databases:

shell> mysql -u root -p
Enter password: (enter root password here)
mysql> DELETE FROM mysql.db WHERE Db LIKE 'test%';
mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

Security :: Cryptography On Package Installers ?

Jan 18, 2011

I would like to know if provisions for cryptographic algorithms, especially things like digital signature of packages/applications etc are a native feature of any linux package installer/package manager.

Another question is: Do all linux based systems natively support cryptography? if yes, what engines do they use? Do they all use openssl or do they use high level java based engines like Harmony(Apache) or Bouncy castle?

I have an ubuntu 10.10 and I know openssl support is already provided. However I want to know if any system level program actually uses it or not.

I'd like to check the signature/cert/keys of this file before running apt-get install on it to see if it is acceptable given my current apt keys. Can someone explain how to do this? Also, what happens when I try to install a package using "apt-get install" and that package or one of its dependencies is:* unsigned* signed, but not by anyone whose key resides in my apt keyring?
