i installed kde to my usb drive but i think the grub also went to it because im running windows 7 and now kde but would like to know how to uninstall it if i ever have to. and also i cannot boot my computer unless that specific usb is connected
View 6 RepliesI have installed "open-SUSE 11.4" on a "500GB Free Agent External Hard Drive". I didn't have any problem in booting since last week that I booted it from my laptop. Also I did it before several times from then when I try to boot it e.g. from an "Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz" PC the time between loading INITRD and starting boot sequence messages lasts nearly 30 minutes!(i didn't actually measure it but it take a long time in the same order). after starting boot sequence which is showed on monitor everything looks normal. e.g copy of files would be done by speeds between 2MB/s to 30 MB/s depending on the targets.I used to use the external hard derive to boot from different laptops and PC's from start but I didn't have such a problem anytime.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been having a problem with my 11.1 recently, in that it gets stuck at a point in the boot process that tells me "INIT cannot execute /bin/sh" then it says "INIT: id 1 is respawning too fast please wait 5 minutes" and tells me there are no more preocesses in this runlevel and repeats this no matter how long I wait. Since I couldnt find any information on fixing that, I decided to just upgrade to 11.3 with a boot disc. Now my computer wont recognize the disc to boot from it and still gets stuck at the same screen.

I've recently begun using PING (Partimage is not Ghost) imaging software, and it works great with other Linux distros. Upon my first use on openSUSE, I found that I could not restore the image onto another computer. After a successful restoration of the image, I get: "Could not find /dev/mapper/isw_ddedgibjfd_ARRAY_part2 Want to fall back to /dev/mapper/isw_ddedgibjfd_ARRAY_part2? (Y/n)" during the first boot. I don't know what to do, I've tried taking multiple images, and restoring them on multiple computers, but I always get the same error.

I've got the Apache2 server up and running through yast, and everything works fine as long as I try to point it to the /www/htdocs folder. However, I want to point it at another folder, which is on another partition. This partition is formatted as NTFS, if that matters at all (here's some background on some permissions issues I had with the NTFS partitions recently).
When I change the "Directory" setting in the Yast http server configuration utility to the directory on the NTFS partition I wish to use, attempting to access the server results in the following error:

it started with rooting my Motorola Droid. I got quite interested in the whole rooting/linux "world". The only problem is, my hands move A LOT faster than my brain does. I'm an "educated novice" at best when it comes to all of this and still learning slowly, but surely. I followed an online tutorial and before I realized quite what i'd done, I had dual installed Ubuntu linux 10.10 on my laptop. ISO'd this, partitioned that and realized....i'm in way over my head. Then I started researching how to just go back in time and get my "safe" windows vista back until I'm ready to make the switch to linux and just ended up getting more confused.
How do I actually BOOT into Windows on a dual boot computer that I apparently just created? How, if need be, do I undo everything I just did in the past few hours and careless tinkering? If I decide to stay with Linux, how do I get my damn wireless router to recognize?
I can't modify/delete the files on my phones through my computer which is connected to my phone through a USB wire. I can view the files in there, but not edit them or make any modifications. During the time I used Ubuntu, it worked pretty well, any ideas why it doesn't work.I use Fedora 11 KDE in case you wanted to help me solve this problem. I also have a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic if this is going to help too.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am currently developing an small program in Python and at a certain point, I need to do some "stuff" depending on the monitors that are connected to the computer. I have an intel vga card with two outputs. I want to do something if one of the screens connected to the output is a "Dell", another something if one of the monitors is a "Nec" and another something if both monitors are connected.
So the question is: Is there any way to get the vendor/model of the monitors currently connected to the computer? I did a little bit testing. I plugged both screens to my vga card (the Nec to the HDMI output and the Dell to the DVI output), and the gnome-display-properties tool properly detected the model, size, resolution... of both screens connected. I would like to know if I can use a command on bash (or a library in python) to get the same information.
The /var/log/Xorg.0.log also shows properly:

I am trying to install a 11.3 virtual machine through Xen on a 11.3 installation. I am trying to install from the opensuse DVD. I get to this point, setting up everything (I can only do paravirtualization) Then the DVD spins for a little while and after that I am returned this error message "device 0 vif could not be connected opensuse....."
I tried a bunch of different settings in the previous screen and I always end up with this error I googled around and it seem to be a problem in different distros but I could not spot a solution at all

I am relatively new to Fedora 15, but used 13 for a while with no issues. Yesterday a windows user put a flash drive into my computer for me to copy something on to. (This may be conincidental.)
