Trying to clean up my system having removed some factory repos so now I have the standard 4, update, oss, non-oss & packman. When updating and switchine to packman I get many Wrong Digest errors and when downloading many NO KEY messages.

What is the significance of the no key message. How can I renew keys from repo sites and what should I do about the Wrong Digest warnings?

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.2 Update "wrong Digest"?

May 18, 2010

I'm updating a newly installed openSUSE 11.2 64bit and in the process the checksum of a delta package called "yast2-ncurses" fails. The rest of the update went without warning.Reading through the forums I found that I should check the installation media and I did - the dvd contains no errors. The list of repositories is the default one with the dvd turned off.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.4 - Wrong Display Size Under VMware Server

Mar 20, 2011

Is there some better way of getting my display size set to 1280x960 when I launch openSUSE 11.4 under VMware Server? Here's what I've done so far: I am running Windows 7 on an AMD Phenom II system (motherboard: Gigabyte 880GMA-UD2H). I installed VMware Server (version 2.0.2) so that I can run openSUSE 11.4. The initial install went pretty smoothly. However, the display size was set to 800x500. I attempted to set it to 1280x960 by changing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-monitor.conf file as follows:

Code:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-monitor.conf
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Default Monitor"
## If your monitor doesn't support DDC you may override the
## defaults here
# HorizSync 28-85
# VertRefresh 50-100
HorizSync 1-10000
VertRefresh 1-10000
## Add your mode lines here, use e.g the cvt tool
Option "PreferredMode" "1280x960_60.00"
# 1280x960 59.94 Hz (CVT 1.23M3) hsync: 59.70 kHz; pclk: 101.25 MHz
Modeline "1280x960_60.00" 101.25 1280 1360 1488 1696 960 963 967 996 -hsync +vsync

This resulted in a display size of 1734x1342 (or something close to that). I noted from the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file that the vmwlegacy driver is being used instead of the vmware svga driver. There is a note that the vmwlegacy driver does not support the "PreferredMode" setting in the monitor section of the xorg.conf files. For the time being, I have set my horizontal and vertical rates to 60kHz and 60Hz, respectively. This does limit the maximum display size to 1280x960, but for all the wrong reasons. How do I set up my system to get the correct display size?

I am using ImageWriter, an OCZ Rally 4gb flash drive and have tried both HTTP and BitTorrent downloaded copies of 11.3 with the same md5sum check wrong error. What am I doing wrong? Is it because it thinks it is a CD or am I getting bad copies of the ISO? I am so out of practice I can't remember anything about installation anymore and am at a loss.

Ubuntu Servers :: Postfix + Dspam Wrong Path For Digest Files

Apr 7, 2010

I am struggling to get dspam to work properly.

I have follow the instructions [URL] to the letter but when I send spam/ham to the ham@mydomain.net address I see a problem in the logs.

The problem appears to be that when dspam filters the mail it stores the digests in:

/var/spool/dspam/data/mydomain.net/<user>

But when it tries to find the digests to add them to the spam/ham database it looks in:

/var/spool/dspam/data/local/<user>

But I can not find anywhere in the config that controls this.

As I followed the instructions on the ubuntu forums I can not be the first person to see this problem.

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.4 Zypper Digest Verification Failed

May 17, 2011

I recently reinstalled my workstation from OpenSuse 11.2 to 11.4. After the installation, I found that I could not run zypper anymore. A few things to note first.

- OpenSuse 11.4 x64 - behind corporate firewall (which worked fine with zypper as long as a proxy was configured with previous versions

- used that ZYPP_ARIA=0 variable previously to help). - proxies configured in /etc/sysconfig/proxy. - all other network utilities I normally use (browser, ssh) all work fine. - I have removed all repositories and added them again several times. I have also done "zypper clean" several times not that I would expect that to be better than removing and re-adding the repositories. When I attempt to run "zypper ref" or "zypper in foo" I get the following:

[code]...

If I manually use wget to grab the package and either run it directly or insert it into the /var/cache/zypp tree (replacing the metalink version zypper complains about) it always works and gives me the right file.....

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Cannot Playback Commercial DVDs On External DVD (Wrong Region/mounting ?

Jan 19, 2011

Having issues getting my external dvd drive to play nice with 10.10. The usual horses have been beaten thoroughly.

1.) I've installed Medibuntu

2.) I've grabbed libdvdcss2, libdvdread, run the install script, etc., etc.

3.) I've attempted to check the region, with no avail.

When I try a regionset, it offers the following complaint:

ERROR: Could not open disc "(null)"! Please ensure there is a readable CD or DVD in the drive.

4.) The drive and disc(s) are all operational, as they work on different partitions and/or machines fine.

VLC/Totem will, briefly, open the menu for a given DVD. The menu video will briefly play, sputter, then die, which sounds like a region issue.

Any idea why the regionset isn't working? Perhaps it's not mounting right?

OpenSUSE Install :: Where Are Installation CDs (not DVDs) For 11.3

These old computers can't boot from USB either so I can't stick the DVD on a USB drive. Or am I just missing the installation CDs somewhere? I did some searching on the download site and in these forums but came up empty.

Fedora Servers :: VMware Reports Wrong Space Available

Jan 13, 2009

I've a physical machine with FC9 running vmware server 1.0.6 with 2 virtual machines. Each virtual machine is also running FC9. Everything was running smoothly until one day, one virtual machine stop. I've checked /var/log/messages of that machine and it says:

Code:
"no space left on device"
.
I try to create a file
Code:
touch dd
and the answer is the same.

The odd thing about all this is that the machine (both virtual and physical) have enough space left. This is the space available reported by df -h. Physical machine

Code:
[root@halwifi hotspot]# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00
228G 38G 179G 18% /
/dev/sda1 190M 19M 162M 11% /boot
tmpfs 1010M 96K 1010M 1% /dev/shm
and the Virtual Machine

Code:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00
8.7G 3.6G 4.7G 44% /
/dev/sda1 190M 19M 162M 11% /boot
tmpfs 379M 0 379M 0% /dev/shm

Every time I try to do something, I always get: "no space left on device".

OpenSUSE Install :: French And DVDs Without Using Minimally Internet?

Mar 3, 2010

I practice a little linux but I am just beginning. I have at work an old Dell PowerEdge 1750 on which there is no DVD player but only one CD. I would like to install opensuse 11.2 on it. I want at any price for the facility, minimize the use of the Internet in order not to overload the bandwidth of the job which is intended primarily for other things. The bios of the server does not boot from USB ports (the solution of a key or a USB bootable disk is not possible). - I could install from the live CD and then via internet download software that I miss. I did the first part of this but I find myself with opensuse in English, which is not the intention. I then tried to Frenchify but I can not do it properly. - I told myself then that I might start trying from a net install cd of opensuse, but I can not indicate which parameter to tell him to pick up the DVD iso image on a opensuse USB hard drive. - I might be as always from the net install tell it to fetch the files on a local or network drive on a local network resource, but I do not know how.

Ubuntu :: Media Server Hosting Through VMware?

Aug 9, 2010

I put this in the General Help section since this potentially deals with multiple things. Without further ado...On my Desktop, My host OS is Windows 7 while thru VMware i have Ubuntu as a Guest OS. I know it's easier to just use Ubuntu solely on the Desktop to host it as a media server, but for certain reasons (family and friends mostly) I'm using VMware instead. My goal is to use my Ubuntu OS thru VMware for others in my household to access it. So far, my Windows host can pick it up the media it's sharing, but not the rest of the network. I know it has to do with the NAT that VMware uses, but what's the best way to configure it to where other laptops, and ps3's on the network can see it?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Wrong Screen Resolution Options On Media Centre

Up until now it had a windows XP and (besides the fact that it had windows) it work with the correct resolution - 1920x1080. I've installed Ubuntu (the latest available) after to many crashes during hd movies...

I installed the nvidia restricted drivers (the display is plain black otherwise) and my tv is being recognized as a CRT monitor. Guess it's because I'm using the vga connector instead of the dvi one. The problem is that the highest resolution it let me choose is 1024x768. I tried to mess around with the xorg.conf but i discovered it doesn't exist.
