It doesn't work so far. I tried changing the device usb info in the source so it includes this older device, but it doesn't work.
General :: Assistive Technologies Icon Turn It Off?
Sep 22, 2010I used the Assistive Technologies on screen keyboard because hotplug was not working and I could only use my bluetooth mouse. Now, even after disabling Assistive Technologies, the icon still appears in the apps toolbar, next to my network connection status icon and battery status icon, also next to the clock and date.

MY Setup:
Two 1Ghz Pentium III (Coppermine)
1GB Ram
8.9GB Hotswap HDD
In a Dell Poweredge 2550 (I think it doesn't say on the case)
Ubuntu 10.10 (Installed Via remote boot - Has gnome GUI, LAMP, Apache etc.)
I would like to play some games on this server to take advantage of the CPU's (the fastest I have) The Graphics card can display up to 1152x864 so It should be able to handle some 3d gaming but it I try to play tux racer it is very slow and only changes the frame every second, must be very low FPS also glxgears gives me in-between 50 and 60 fps and most people seem to get 500+!
The problem is not compiz because it is no-longer installed and I think I am using the open-source ati drivers not fglx.
Fedora Hardware :: ATI Rage 128 PF / PRO - Can't Get The Screen Resolution To Go Higher Than 848x480
Jan 9, 2011I've recently been messing with installing Fedora 14 an older computer I have and I've hit a snag. While everything else seems to be just honky dory, I cant get the screen resolution to go higher than 848x480. I know that the screen I'm using supports at least 1024x768 (possibly higher, i don't know) as another computer I have will display at that on it with no problem.
I've spent literally hours mucking about with xrandr, and xorg.conf (had to create it cause it didn't exist)As an addendum: the GUI monitor preferences screen says "Unknown" for the monitor I'm using, where as the xorg.conf file i created accurately detects it as Vendor "NEC" ModelName "PX-50VP" That's not really a big deal though, just a minor quirk I would think.

Jan 11, 2011There is a nice server that I want to install Redhat 5, update 5 on. I downloaded, from Oracle edelivery, the Linux 64 bit, Redhat 5, Update 5, and wrote it to bootable CD.

Failed to start X server.

This is very odd, for a few reasons:
- the card is a few years old, and the distribution is new.
- Windows finds the correct information for this card, that it is an Nvidea card.
- A different simpler card gave the same error message (NVidea GEForce 6800)

May 24, 2009I been searching for months on how to get the s-video to work on my pci VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] card. I found a site with instructions.
This is how I got it to work.
I install Debian 5.0 Lenny Desktop
added the Driver "radeon" to my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file
This work and I was able to use my tv as a monitor however when I try to play a video file from totem or vlc all I could get was audio with no video; These files work and played fine in the CRT monitor.

Jul 20, 2010I just installed Linux Mint 9 as a dual boot install with Win XP. Trying to activate wireless network card driver and video driver. Pops up: "You are not authorized to perform this action".How do I get authorized?
Now every time I boot Win XP, the Internet Explorer menu bar is all blacked out and goofy. If I log out and back in it corrects itself. If I reboot it's blacked out again. Re-installed IE8. Still blacks out.Also Firefox in Win XP crashes expectantly. It has NEVER crashed on me previously.

Jun 21, 2011I would like to know whether an updated print driver has successfully replaced a previously installed driver.
I have a late model Lexmark Prestige Pro805 printer. Lexmark supplies a Linux driver which you download. No drivers appear on the Ubuntu Add Printer list. The Lexmark download also installs utilities, etc. Some stuff appears installed in synaptic. I don't know if uninstalling these only uninstalls the applications and not the actual driver. For some reason, I have had issues recently with this printer malfunctioning frequently with my Linux machines over wifi. They have pushed new firmware down to the printer, and this may be a cause. There is also newer Linux print drivers which I installed, but I do not have a clue as to whether the new drivers are actually in use. On a windows machine I would have uninstalled the printer prior to re-installation. Clueless how to accomplish the same on Ubuntu.
How do I make sure the newest drivers are in use?

It also removes one more barrier to what I think is the intended goad of Tumbleweed.The problem IMHO is not that there are no clear guides. The problem is there are too many. No sooner does one person do a guide (that is clear) and someone else who does not like some point writes another guide that they think is more clear (but in fact is less clear in other aspects). And this goes on ad infinitum.IMHO we have too many guides - many of which are sufficient clear ... but the VAST number only serves to confuse users more.
Having typed that, IMHO this is NOT a Tumbleweed specific issue, but its MUCH WIDER in scope and hence does not belong as a discussion in this Tumbleweed thread.

Feb 17, 2010I am attempting to load CentOS 5 on an Acer 6900 desktop and I'm not even getting out of the starting gate. I am familiar with using linux but not the install procedure which is why I am beginning to dive into this. However, when I bring the system up off the Linux boot disk and go to install it's not even giving me the option of the controller so I can begin installing the os from the dvd-rom. This is what acer lists as the controller for the 6900: ich8 serial ata storage controller 2820 linux driver. I cannot find this driver for linux anywhere.

Oct 23, 2010No wireless networking. The ethernet works fine, and the wireless interface itself works well in Windows 7 (dual boot). Tried: Ndiswrapper, notoriously quirky, does not seem to work with the XP driver (the oldest driver available for the RTL8191SE). The linux driver offered on the manufacturer's website lacks any installation instructions. I have no clue how to install a linux driver. SUSE seems to have two network managers that are constantly complaining about control: Network Manager and Yast. Neither are great and I am left missing my Ubuntu.
However, my audio only seems to work on SUSE. I have tried almost every distro on this machine. Ubuntu lacked sound and wireless, Fedora played startup sounds, but would not play an mp3 or wav file (fiddling with the mixer did not help). And Fedora also lacked wireless support. PCLinuxOS, my favorite, lacked sound and wireless. Tried some oldies too. ELE, DSL, Puppy, Ubuntu Netbook remix, Vector, Browserpuppy, Crunchbang, Cruncheee (just for experimental sakes) and probably others I am not remembering. So far, installing a free linux distro has cost me 14 dvd-R's and countless hours of installing, reformatting and reinstalling. Part of me really wanted crunchbang to work, as I love the minimalism and blacked-out theme.
I need wireless network access. The wireless light remains red in Linux and pressing the key does nothing to start the device. In Windows 7 it always lights white and works perfectly. Why hasn't SUSE adopted a gui for ndiswrapper? Other distros have it. Why is my brand new laptop, which is by no means abnormal in make or configuration, not 100% supported natively by any Linux distro? I just updated to the new kernel yesterday. So I should be running the most modern operating system available. Yet good-ol Windows 7 is my only fully functional environment.

However when I plug it in, the only thing dmesg mentiones is: Code:usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2I've tried to look for a kernel driver in "make menuconfig" by pressing "/" and typing 232. Nothing about RS-232. Device Drivers -> Character drivers -> Serial drivers has 8250 and UART as a module. Device Drivers -> USB support -> USB serial converter support has in-kernel: USB generic serial driver, and FTDI Single port driver as a module, but it still isn't getting recognized.Is there some module i forgot to enable, or do i have to download a separate module from somewhere?
