OpenSUSE Hardware :: Get Highpoint 2680 Driver Working On 11.4
Jun 10, 2011
I'm trying to get my Highpoint 2680 working on OpenSuse 11.4 I need to make a driver for this because Highpoint doesn't have one for 11.4. I downloaded an open source driver from the website of Highpoint you can find it here. First of all I installed this with Yast: gcc, binutils, make, kernel-source, kernel-syms en linux-glibc-devel After this was done I unpacked the tar file with the open source driver in it and did this:

I've just received a new router from TalkTalk - a D-Link DSL-2680 - and was very pleased to find that after I plugged it in I could wirelessly connect straight away with my laptop. However since I first disconnected I have been unable to connect again since and have had to resort to a wired connection. I have been using Ubuntu for several years now and am very pleased with it, especially given my relatively low knowledge of computers.
My system is as follows:
IBM T42 laptop
Ubuntu 10.10 - I was running V9, but upgraded as some discussions suggested this might be an issue The wireless adapter is built in to the laptop, and I'm not even sure how to find out what it is It may be a problem with the DHCP server on the router rather than a problem with the laptop.

Has anyone had issue with this card on kernels since 2.6.31? I updated my system in November and the card stopped working, rather than simply revert to my previous kernel i contacted highpoint (HPT) and asked if they would be updating their open source driver soon, they got back to me and said they were developing something... so i kept my system upto date and waited. now they say they will not be updating any time soon. i have tried installing older kernels but it seems that something else is wrong and the card will wind up beeping after about 30 - 45 mins of loading a compiled module.
I was wondering if anyone knows enough about the drivers to perhaps modify the opensource driver to work with newer kernels. or really if anyone else has issue with HPT controllers? as of right now my only option is to wait until highpoint develops an update since nothing i have tried will let the card work properly.
i don't suspect anyone will have any serious issues but i thought this is my next best bet (to waiting)

I am trying openSUSE 11.3(KDE desktop) for the first time (also my first time with a linux OS). But i am trying to install the EgalaxTouch driver to get my touchscreen working. I have tried all the things from this topic: openSUSE 11.3 and eGalax TouchScreen but everytime i try to run the install.sh i get these errors no mather if i am directly logged in as root or using sudo in my command line:
I am busy from monday installing all kind of touchscreen drivers but they all won't install propperly (just like the original drivers they need the Xfree86-devel but i can't find it for openSUSE).

I have bought a new Dell Studio XPS Desktop with Broadcom BCM57788 network card. The installation of the tg3 driver from Dell was done according to Documentation
But still, the network card is not there. When I call ifconfig, there is only "lo" and no "eth". In Yast it says that the Netlink BCM57788 card cannot be configured because the firmware is missing. I also already did modprobe tg3 and rmmod tg3.
BTW, I have installed OpenSuse 11.2 x32 which is Linux 2.6.31.5.

I have a Rosewill RNX-N150pc wireless card that's been working great with Suse 11.2. But with 11.3, it's able to scan for my wireless network, and I see RX/TX packets moving, but DHCP isn't able to get an address. I've tried the 2010_0115_RT3562_RT3062_Linux_STA_V2.3.0.0 and 010_07_16_RT3062_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0 drivers from the Rosewill site, and the rt3562sta-kmp-desktop-2.4.0.0_k2.6.34.0_12-1.1.i586.rpm package from Suse, all with the same result. I've even tried forcing an IP address on the interface with 'ifconfig', so my current guess is that the WPA-PSK security isn't working.

I'm currently in the process of getting my server moved over from a Server 2003 machine to one based on Fedora 12. My issue is that I have an existing RAID5 array on a rr1740 card. When I install this in the new system each individual drive show up as sdc sdd etc not as one volume. I have tried installing the highpoint driver but I get an error that sata_mv cannon't be unloaded. I have tried adding this to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist to no avail.
System currently looks like this. ASUS mini ITX Atom D510 based board with 2x on board SATA, attatched to these are a 160GB OS drive, 400GB data drive. Highpoint RR1740 PCI card with 5x500GB drives in RAID5.

what the prepackaged proprietary nvidia driver is missing to run compiled OpenCL programs.
I have the pre-packaged proprietary nvidia driver from [URL] and the package is missing some files, like lobOpenCL.so, which I extracted from the .run file and put manually in the /usr/lib64 directory toether with creating some symlinks. I can compile my opencl programs fine (C | // // File: hello.c // - Anonymous - 3BF2vDzc - [URL], Getting started with OpenCL and GPU Computing), but when I run, the firsr opencl-related function clGetPlatformIDs returns an error code.
Again, I try to figure out what the prepackaged driver is missing. If I use the nvidia .run script driver, the problem probably does not exist. CUDA executables run fine (compiled on an other opensuse machine without nvidia card)

I've been, for some years, an happy user of Highpoint HPT374 based RAID cards, using RAID 5 with decent performances (constantly around 90 MB/sec in read, and 60 MB/sec in write ). Old Athlon mobo , with 2.6.8 kernel. Now the mobo is dead, so I've got an Asrock A330GC (dual proc with 4giga ram), installed Debian with kernel 2.6.26 and moved the controller and disks , and the performances have dropped to a painful 9 MB/sec in write, measured with dd of a huge file (interrupted with kill -USR1 [pidof dd]).
Read performances are still around 90MB/sec, using hdparm -t , repeated many times , figures are constantly around 90MB/sec. I suspect some libata issue , in old kernel the raid was seen as hdb, now is sdb, some driver(s) of the PATA disks may be responsible. I've used the driver, from Highpoint v2.19 , the latest driver is broken (causes kernel oops during format of raid), I've informed Highpoint.
Here some info :
hdparm -i /dev/sdb :
HDIO_GET_IDENTITY failed: invalid argument .

I installed it on a Dell Inspiron 531 with the GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 built in video card. From the recommend driver list I installed NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current) [Recommended
Well, turns out it should not have been recommended. I had restarted and all I got was a low res ubuntu logo and a boot right into a full screen terminal. Tried startx and got a no screens found, I look online for about an hour last night and decided to just reinstall, which takes a couple hours when installing all the packages.
I have done more research today and found to install the latest linux x64 driver from nVidias website, which I did, but it does not run. I followed some more instructions and it said to do a sudo chmod +x <file> which I did, and it starts to open and I get You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing.
Im starting to get a little frustrated here, guess Im just used to a lot of the ease of windows and assumed that something like installing a graphics card driver would be easy.

There is one thing missing (I think) a clear guide to clearing out Nvidia and replacing it with nouveau. For all but hardened gamers, nouveau on 11.4 delivers. It also removes one more barrier to what I think is the intended goad of Tumbleweed. The problem IMHO is not that there are no clear guides. The problem is there are too many. No sooner does one person do a guide (that is clear) and someone else who does not like some point writes another guide that they think is more clear (but in fact is less clear in other aspects). And this goes on ad infinitum.IMHO we have too many guides - many of which are sufficient clear ... but the VAST number only serves to confuse users more.
Having typed that, IMHO this is NOT a Tumbleweed specific issue, but its MUCH WIDER in scope and hence does not belong as a discussion in this Tumbleweed thread.

No wireless networking. The ethernet works fine, and the wireless interface itself works well in Windows 7 (dual boot). Tried: Ndiswrapper, notoriously quirky, does not seem to work with the XP driver (the oldest driver available for the RTL8191SE). The linux driver offered on the manufacturer's website lacks any installation instructions. I have no clue how to install a linux driver. SUSE seems to have two network managers that are constantly complaining about control: Network Manager and Yast. Neither are great and I am left missing my Ubuntu.
However, my audio only seems to work on SUSE. I have tried almost every distro on this machine. Ubuntu lacked sound and wireless, Fedora played startup sounds, but would not play an mp3 or wav file (fiddling with the mixer did not help). And Fedora also lacked wireless support. PCLinuxOS, my favorite, lacked sound and wireless. Tried some oldies too. ELE, DSL, Puppy, Ubuntu Netbook remix, Vector, Browserpuppy, Crunchbang, Cruncheee (just for experimental sakes) and probably others I am not remembering. So far, installing a free linux distro has cost me 14 dvd-R's and countless hours of installing, reformatting and reinstalling. Part of me really wanted crunchbang to work, as I love the minimalism and blacked-out theme.
I need wireless network access. The wireless light remains red in Linux and pressing the key does nothing to start the device. In Windows 7 it always lights white and works perfectly. Why hasn't SUSE adopted a gui for ndiswrapper? Other distros have it. Why is my brand new laptop, which is by no means abnormal in make or configuration, not 100% supported natively by any Linux distro? I just updated to the new kernel yesterday. So I should be running the most modern operating system available. Yet good-ol Windows 7 is my only fully functional environment.

How do I check if I'm using the Nouveu driver or the Nvidia Binary driver? I thought things were running nicely with the free driver because I had compositing working on my dismal graphics card... But scrolling in firefox is slow/laggy so I tried installing the binary driver with 1click install. But I restarted and still have the same problem. I think I might still be using the nouveu driver? Actually, scratch that last sentence. I just did lspci -v and got this output:

I had a problem with using ndiswrapper to install Windows driver on Netgear WN511TA wireless adapter card. Problem solved by replacing Netgear WN511TA with Airlink101 AWLC6080 PCMCIA wireless adapter to work in my triple-boot XP Pro/Ubuntu Karmic/openSUSE 11.2 Toshiba laptop and using the latest Linux driver version 2.3.0.0 dated January 29, 2010 from Ralinktech site. I followed driver instruction in a Ubuntuforums tutorial (Howto: Ralink RT2860(m) PCI(e) RT2860...on Intrepid).
I am wondering if I can use the same Linux driver (RT2860sta) for openSUSE 11.2 on my triple-boot XP Pro/Karmic/openSUSE laptop, ie. copying over instead of building and compiling driver from source again, because I don't quite understand the build instruction given in the README file of Ralink's Linux driver file. Specifically, I don't know how to "define the GCC and LD (?) of the target machine, and define the compiler flags CFLAGS(?), modify your need (?)", etc. I already have gcc, cpp and make installed on the Ubuntu and openSUSE parts of my machine. I did try ndiswrapper in openSUSE but it doesn't work for the Windows version of the latest Ralink driver (error: invalid driver rt2860.inf).

No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly. install the ATI driver appropriate for you ATI hardware, or configure using aticonfig."

I just deleted my windows XP and installed Ubuntu 9.10 earlier this morning. I used wired connection to get drivers for my wireless network card.
When I did lspci, the very last line states:
Network Controller: Broadcom Coporation BCM4311 902.11b/g WLAN(rev 01)
I used the System -> Administration -> Hardware Driver and found 2 drivers. I have tried them both to connect to my D-Link Router. Neither of which worked.
For Broadcom B43 Driver, the wireless is able to detect wireless networks. However, it fails to establish connection.
For Broadcom STA Driver, the wireless cannot even detect wireless networks available.
What is the issue here and how do I resolve it so that I am able to connect onto the internet wirelessly?

i have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my Dell XPS M1530. Previously, i got the bcmwl proprietary driver to work when i was trying the live cd. for some reason, when i installed it however, it did not work the same. when ubuntu booted when i installed it, it did not sense the proprietary driver. so i went in to the ubuntu disc itself and got the bcmwl driver and the dkms packages. so i try to install both of them with dpkg -i as root. dkms installed successfully, however, the bcmwl driver gave me this:

Since the last driver error I had posted the thread was starting to drift WELL off the original issue so now I am opening a new thread since it IS a whole different problem in general; So, I was having issues with my driver not being enabled. After I installed it manually it appeared to be correct how-ever when I ttried to enable special effects, and compiz, it didn't work. And even after a correct installation of the driver some windows when they pop up look like static then appear.Graphics card is an:nVidia 6150SE onboard card.I know it can handle compiz, and effects, because it did before on the other version of ubuntu I had.

Is there a CLI I can enter and see the issue or perhaps 10.10 and my drivers are conflicting?
EDIT: I see in synaptic I have nvidia drivers and something called a nouveau display driver. Can I remove those since I run an ATI card?
