Was having an xorg problem earlier now resolved but now the screen is extremely unstable and bouncing. I checked my ATI Fire GL driver and it is installed and working fine.
Is there a CLI I can enter and see the issue or perhaps 10.10 and my drivers are conflicting?
EDIT: I see in synaptic I have nvidia drivers and something called a nouveau display driver. Can I remove those since I run an ATI card?
Recently i installed Maverick on my studio 15 laptop
It frequently hangs.Nothing works and i have to restart manually Is there any other way to restart Why is it hanging frequently?
Also i installed ati radeon drivers using additional drver bundled with Maverick.
After installing it shows d driver to be workinng fine
But while opening Ati catalyst control centre it says d driver isnot installed

i need some help big time. I'm running open suse 11.4 with gnome desk top.the flash player in fire fox 4.0.1 is installed but i still can't get any you tube video's to work or any video's for that mater.i did in stall an add-on called flash -aid. and not sure what happen. so i uninstalled the add-on and un installed flash player a couple of times and reinstalled it.and i still have no way to see any video's at all.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from Lucid via update manager. I removed the video driver before upgrading like it was recommended in some posts but now i can not get it back. If I go to System>>Administration>>Additional Drivers nothing is listed. I tried installing the driver from Software Center but i could not enable desktop effects. After it was installed form SF it was displayed in Additional Drivers as installed but NOT in use.

I am having some problems trying to find drivers for a couple of things that I have for my maverick meerkat 10.10 operating system. and the following items I need help with is a Microtek scanmaker x6 scanner, a logitech usb quickcam chat video camera, and a microphone (which I do not know the manufacturer). were I can find drivers for these three items so that I maybe able to use them. I also am having trouble with hearing videos on line, and have a problem with the drivers to be able to play dvds on my computer which I used to be able to do. there are other problems that I do not want to discuss at this time but will probably find the answers to them soon.
View 1 Replies View Relatedtried to install drivers for FX 5500 today, the one that Ubuntu recommended (173) and the current version (260). Both installs failed when it tried to set up python-support. Returned an exit status of "10". I don't know what that means. I could really use some help, because I just installed UT2K4, and without the driver, I can't play it. I'm running the latest release, as noted in the thread title. Dunno if it helps, but it was a clean install, because an alternate iso upgrade failed and mucked up 10.04.

I have tried reinstalling the NV display driver via "additional drivers" in the live CD, but they do not appear to be being retained on the HD version of Ubuntu. When I go back into the live cd the driver is not installed.
How can I switch the proprietary driver back on in the hard disk when I am running the live disk.
Is there a repair system program?
If not is there a way of forcing an upgrade on an upgraded system so that missing files are reinstalled?
If that does not work what should I do next to get the GDM to load?
I've heard that Compiz is not working in Maverick. Is this true? Has it impacted computers with decent graphics cards much, or is it no big deal? I'm kinda confused, because of the Ubiquity thing. Is that replacing compiz?

My kids are big Lego fans, and since Lego digital designer is quite unstable in WINE I thought I try to give leocad [URL] a try.
So far I haven't had much luck. The stable sources won't compile. I managed to compile an executable from the trunk sources, but it segfaults.
Anyone managed to get leocad working on Maverick?

I have a pc that i have upgraded Ubuntu from version 9.10 to 10.04 to 10.10. Now, in Maverick I can not get rsync to work correctly. The delete option does not work and updated files in the source do not get recreated in the destination. Can someone tell me if I'm doing something wrong:

I updated my ubuntu today from 10.04.1 to 10.10 and my microphone stopped working. There is no connector option in the input tab to choose the microphone. I checked everything in alsamixer and still nothing. I had no problems in 10.04.1.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have finaly gotten the Canon Pixma MP495 working under Ubuntu 10.10, with full resolution capabilities of the printer.This printer is only advirtised as having a max resolution of 4800x1200 DPI. However, I called Canon to get the full range of print resolutions and was informed that this printer is capable of 9600x2400 DPI.I haven't tested this below Ubuntu 10.04 but it should work fine.
For setting your MP495 printer up on your network without the use of a Windows or Mac machine (Fresh out of the box with Ubuntu) you will need to match your Routers SSID to the printers default SSID, and remove any security you have enabled. This will allow the printer to connect to your network.
Printer Defaults:
SSID: BJNPSETUP
IP ADDRESS: Automatic
Once you have done that you will need to activate the wireless lan on the printer.Press the Maintenance button on the printer 13 times until you see what looks like a capital G without the middle line. Then press the color start button. (refer to page 10 of your Network Setup Troubleshooting manual for an actual picture of the symbol) You should see the wifi light on the front of the printer turn on and be solid not be blinking. (If it is blinking check your routers SSID settings and match the Default SSID of the printer as listed above.
Now download angryipscanner AngryIPScanner and install it by double clicking it. It should open in the Software center or with the Gdebi installer. (this may take a few minutes to install.)Once you have installed AngryIPScanner, run it and change the ip range to include from 1 - 254 in the last octet. Then click start. When it finishes look for an active connection with a Hostname like A001BF000000.local. Yours may be different but should be very simular.
The IP address given for that hostname is the IP address of your printer. Open Firefox and type that address in the address bar and press enter. From there you can configure you printer for the SSID, and encryption that you had on your router before the change, and set a static IP for the printer so you can manage it easily.After you change the SSID and encryption on the printer you will have to go back to your router and change the SSID and encryption back to what it was before so your printer can connect again.Now your network should be back the way it was and your printer should be connected Now that you have successfully connected the printer to your wireless network continue with the rest of the installation. Download the drivers for the MP495 . You will be downloading cnijfilter-mp495series-3.40-1-deb.tar.gz.
Extract cnijfilter-mp495series-3.40-1-deb.tar.gz to your Home directory.Change the permissions of the install.sh file to run and an executable by Right licking on install.sh and then left clicking Properties. Click on the Permissions tab and put a check mark in the Allow Executing file as program box. I have been using ubuntu for a year or so with little trouble until now. I have done a fresh install of 10.10 and my second monitor doesnt work. I have Intel G31 graphics. It was working fine with 10.4 and previously 9.4, it displays the bios splash screen and then nothing. System>preferences>monitors does not show it as present at all. Here is my lshw -C video:

I had Bluetooth PAN network working fine in Lucid. For some reason (mainly hardware) I had to upgrade to Maveric. After that my Bluetooth PAN network stopped working at all. I found out that server host do not even expose any PAN or GN profiles. The only profile it exposes is "Hands-free audio". Setting PAND_ENABLE=1 in '/etc/default/bluetooth' did not have any affect. I attempted to start PAND in listening mode and it exposed PAN profile but any connection was unsuccessful. When I try to connect to any other PAN profile it also had no success with 'Permission denied' message.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04 few weeks ago. Everything was working fine until today when I did a partial upgrade and it removed some of the lib files. Now my usb mouse and keyboard is not working. I can move the mouse around but can't click ( left or right ). I have nvidia graphics card. I tried running it under safe graphics mode and when I do that everything works fine except for the compiz obviously. I have tried reinstalling nvidia driver to see if that would make a difference but that didn't work either. I am not sure which lib files did ubuntu removed. I have searched everywhere to find a solution on the web and the only thing I think it might b iz my xconf file iz messed up. I really don't want to reinstall the whole OS and loose all my apps.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had installed pavucontrol in Ubuntu 10.04 to record the sounds being played on the system, by changing the "Record stream for" value to "Monitor of Internal Audio Analog Stereo". I installed pavucontrol in Maverick as well, but here it doesn't capture and show the sounds being played at all, not even in playback (No sound meter bar activity below each entry). The sound can still be decreased/increased and it shows all the devices playing back or recordong. Also if I change the hardware to "Digital duplex" from Analog stereo Duplex" it starts capturing and showing the streams, but then I can't hear anything from the speakers. I even compiled the newest pavucontrol, but still the same.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've upgraded to Maverick but now I cannot get my wireless card working. In Lucid it didn't work out of the box, but worked perfectly by wrapping the Windows driver with ndiswrapper.
I noticed when I installed Maverick that wireless is enabled in Network-Manager and it gives me the option to create a wireless network or connect to a hidden network but it's not discovering/showing any of the wireless networks in range! So it seems as though the card is being recognized but the driver isn't working fully...? I tried wrapping the windows drivers, but that didn't change the situation at all.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Maverick and since yesterday, my wireless hasn't been working. It was working before with Maverick and I don't recall doing any updates that might have changed wireless configurations.
By "doesn't work" I mean it doesn't recognizes any networks, as if the wireless was turned off (there's this button on laptops, but it's turned on). I had that problem some time ago, but rebooting solved the problem, which, now, didn't.
My laptop is a HP dv6420la.

I've been running Maverick 64bit fine on my Dell M1330 laptop until a couple of days ago. After the latest updates (I guess to kernel 2.6.35-24-generic), sound stopped working properly. The sound indicator applet tells me that the sound system is not responding. The login sound doesn't play anymore.
On the other hand Rhythmbox plays and I can hear the music. I can adjust Rhythmbox volume but not the global volume (as neither the sound indicator applet nor the multimedia volume keys on my laptop work).

I recently installed ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) on my new laptop. Sound was working just fine until today morning, when all of a sudden no sound would come out of my system. It is not a hardware problem as sound is working fine on windows.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is a fact I have to share with you. I've tried it on liveCD version, and also have tried to fix the problem, but nothing worked. I even installed ndiswrapper, but the Windows drivers didn't solve the problem:
- the system sees the card (lspci)
- the card doesn't see any wireless network (iwlist)
- no command line manipulation helps (iwconfig, ifconfig)
Conclusion: the network manager is out of order.

In System-->Administration-->Additional Drivers I've enabled the 'Broadcom STA wireless driver' and its noted as 'This driver is activated and currently in use.' Changes I made
- I've activated the Nvidia driver.
- I've installed Boxee (media center)
- I'm using CPU frequency scalers for both my cores.
- I've updated my system and am using maverick-security, -updates and -proposed.
- I've installed b43-fwcutter
- I've installed firmware-b43-lpphy-installer
Other than those adjustments the system is completely fresh. When I suspend or hibernate and activate my laptop again it only shows a backlight-lit black screen and does not continue restoring. Other than the occasional flash my cpu 'business' indicator led does nothing. BUT The wireless led is now on. I've tried the Broadcom B43 driver as you could've guessed from the changes I made, no result. I had to use the 'lpphy' installer(for BCM4312 (with Low-Power aka LP-PHY)), the 'legacy' and normal version both gave an error upon executing the post installation script.
