View 3 RepliesI recently upgraded to Gnome 2.30 and now usb drives don't auto-mount and show-up in Nautilus as a device.
I can mount the drive manually, but it would be nice if this happened automatically when I plugged it in.
how to mount USB sony walkman? i m using RHEL 6.0 downloaded by using torrent. my usb sony walkman is not detected by the system.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt worked fine in every other version of Ubuntu, but now when I plug it in, it will appear in the 'devices' section in Rhythmbox, but not anywhere in nautilus. I am using Ubuntu 10.04, with my Sony Walkman (looks like a USB drive with a screen and buttons)
Is this some Apple-like music security feature? is there any way around it?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 3 u3 type flash drives, 1 Memorex and 2 Sandisk Cruzers, and one non-U3 (JDSecure). The purpose is file storage. All four work perfectly on Ubuntu 10.04 and XP.I have continual problems with the U3 devices on 11.04. Problems vary from not being able to open the flash drives causing screen to freeze until I remove the device from the hub, or I am unable to unmount the device causing the desktop to freeze until devices are removed.Sometimes I am able to access files in the flash, before the freeze. The non-U3 device works perfectly on 11.04, 10.04, and XP.Sounds like a system problem to me. I have google searched this to death, but can't find a solution.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony MP3 player which is a SOK-NWZ-B512F(B) model that couldn't detected by OpenSUSE. I did try on other pen drive which is a Kingston brand, it is detected and a pop-up message mention that I have an USB drive connected.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've tried to get an opensuse box I have to share a directory via NFS. I've failed each time, but I thought that the third time, I'd enlist some help from the forums, if I could. how do I know that the nfs server and not the client is the problem? Short answer is: I don't! That's why nfs (and many netwrk problems) are laborious, you're troubleshooting needs to take place at both source and desitination. Next question, what do I have set up so far? Well, I did download the nfs server kernel stuff (two months back) and /etc/init.d/nfsserver start seems to get set up OK. No errors and the daemons nfsd, idmapd, mountd area all running. So, I *think* that part is OK. I have the share set up properly in /etc/exportfs and have "exportfs -r" it.
OK, now onto the trickier stuff: the client and iptables. On the client pinging to the nfserver box is perfect, and I have rpcbind running. the reported error is "mount.nfs: mount system call failed" though from experience nfs errors don't mean a whole lot. However, I will go off and check now and see if I need a mountd running on client-side too. Then there's iptables .... ouch, that could be a long and painful trek. I don't see any specific ports being blocked, and it's the iptables that the default v11.2 opensuse came with. I did turn them off and the problem was the same, so whether wishfl thinking or not, I'm hoping it's not an iptables issue.
I have been using Linux for a while but I am more used to Debian based distributions. With distributions like Ubuntu, I have been able to get my flash drives to work instantly. However, I have no idea how to mount one in OpenSuse. I do not have much experience in configuring stuff like this because distros usually do this for me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe system is 11.1 32 bit and used to work ok
All the drives function and mount normally under Parted Magic.
Sometimes a cd will mount after 15 mins or so but if it is ejected it will not remount. after that event the dmesg output is 3 times as long. As it is 35K chrs long it is too long to post!
I have changed hardware and cables with no effect.
I have run the repair option on the install disk. I get a cannot find floppy error
It also reports cups, hal, ntp & postfix as errors but if I select repair it still returns the same next time I run the repair routine.
It also says the bootloader is faulty if I select repair I go into an infinite loop so I exit with skip. Anyway the system boots ok and runs just fine apart from the cd/fdd/usb problem
On windows xp when i right-click on the flash video, i can choose 'enable hardware acceleration', but when i do the same for OpenSuse i don't have any hardware acceleration option.
How can i have a GPU/hardware acceleration option for flash?
Any commandline audioplayer I might not have heard before? Which one do you use? I just started using Moc [URL]
View 12 Replies View RelatedMy software RAID setup is as follows.
/dev/md0 (made from sda1 and sdb1) RAID1 /boot partition
/dev/md1 (made from sda2, sdb2, and sdc2) RAID5 / partition
Earlier on I had some trouble with my sda drive, it dropped itself from both arrays, screwing up the mirroring of my two raid partitions participating in the /boot partition. I eventually got everything sorted out and back in sync. (I also have grub installed to MBR on both sda and sdb). Things are working fine regarding that, but since then I've had this issue:
During boot up, I'll get an error message that it could not mount my /boot partition (when fstab is set to either /dev/md0 or the UUID). It claims c9ab814c-47ea-492d-a3be-1eaa88d53477 does not exist!
My fstab:
Code:
[mark@mark-box ~]$ cat /etc/fstab
#
# /etc/fstab
# Created by anaconda on Wed Jan 20 16:34:41 2010

As far as I know, it isn't neccessary for /boot to be mounted always, correct? Although, as I understand, I need to have it mounted whenever making kernel changes correct?
I use a RAIDON unit (SL3610/3620-2S-LB2 - set up with RAID1 and NFS) as a file server and want it to mount at boot. My /etc/fstab entry is
10.10.10.2:/mnt/md1/ulimnt /home/uli/ulimnt nfs rw,hard,intr 0 0
But the system does not mount at boot. SO after the system booted up the command (as root) mount -t nfs 10.10.10.2:/mnt/md1/ulimnt /home/uli/ulimnt mounts the system without problems Of course I can add a login script - but why does it not work at boot System is opensuse 11.0 - network with if up
I have a hard time mounting two external drives on my Suse 11.3. When I use the device notifier gadget both drives get mounted in /media/<drive name>, the vfat drive is read-only though. However, I would like to mount both drives under /<drive name> in separate directories and rw. I looked at the devices in /dev/ and entered the device name to fstab, set the mount point, file system (vfat, and ntfs-3g) and set 'rw,noauto, exec, user, sync 0 0'.
This way I could mount my vfat drive read-only under /<drive name>, but not the ntfs one. After a reboot i noticed that the external drives get different IDs in /dev. E.g. what I had in my fstab under /dev/sdc1 got /dev/sdf1, and /dev/sdc was unknown. I am doing something wrong here, what worked in 11.0 does not seem to work here.

When logged in as my normal userid to OpenSuse 11.2, I cannot get Banshee to recognize my Creative Zen MP3 player. The player does appear as a device on the desktop and I can access files on the player through that icon, but cannot get Banshee to recognize it so it can be managed in Banshee. If however, I log on as root, Banshee recognizes the device without a problem.
The log file in ~/.config/banshee-1 shows the following:
libusb couldn't open USB device /dev/bus/usb/001/004: Permission denied.
libusb requires write access to USB device nodes.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running a Postgres server and after I did the whole installation I realized the Postgres data was set in /usr/pgsql/data. Sda1 is just 10 Gig so I decided to re-organize the partitions to be able to move /usr to say /dev/sda7 with a mount point as /usr. The / partition is on the only primary partition and the rest is on an extended partition. When I tried to resize the primary partition GParted did not give me that possibilty so I decided to move /usr
Original partitions:
sda1 / 10 G on primary partition this includes /usr /var and all others
sda5 swap 2 G on extended partition
sda6 /home 140 G on extended partition
So I did create another partition using Knoppix and Gparted the disk:here is the new picture:
sda1 / 10 G on primary partition this includes /usr /var and all others
code....
I did rsync to copy all the file to /dev/sda7/usr and then mv /dev/sda7/usr* /dev/sda7. I stop the postgres database and services then I mv /dev/sda1/usr to dev/sda1/poufusr . When I rebooted it reports errors from kbd files on /etc File not found. It brings me to a terminal (No GUI) I did a check with :#mount: nothing is reported about sda7
What am I missing ?
Its annoying to unmount my flash drive twice.. its not a major problem actually but its kinda annoying , its whenever i plug-in my flash drive.. everything works well except when i need to un-mount it.. I usually unmount it twice using right-click of the mouse, then it mounts itself back, so i have to unmount it again.. Is there any way to control this? How do i setup the auto-mount option for USB flash drives?

Flash doesn't load and the light at my webcam doesn't switch on at all. Things to note:Cheese works so I know my webcam in Ubuntu is functional. I've tried purging the flash plugin and reinstalling it. It doesn't work on Chrome and Firefox so it's definitely only a flash problem. I'm not using any medication so I know it isn't me just imagining it. View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I insert a DVD movie, it won;t show up to play. I can't see it when I click on the My Computer icon, and it doesn't show up in the device notifier. I have tried a couple of different DVD's and a couple of different OpenSuse 11.4 computers. This would leave me to believe that it is a setting issue that I am missing. I have never had this issue before with other OpenSuse versions. All I had to do was install all the codecs required and voila!
View 9 Replies View RelatedThrough some recent update, which one I am not sure, my system no longer responds to removable media such as flash drives and insertions of DVD/CD disks. Whereas before, for instance, if I inserted a USB flash drive, the "Device Notifier" would pop up, tell me that a new device had been detected, and ask me what I wanted to do with it, now nothing. "My Computer" (sysinfo:/)does not update either. The kernel knows the device is there, since I can see it when I do "lsusb". OpenSuSE x86_64 11.2.

Questions:
1) How can I learn which packages I've deleted or installed to make the changes back - I mean install deleted packages and delete installed by mistake?
2) Is there an instrument to make a complete system roll-back to some time point?
Because I was getting some package errors, I ran the Repair Installed System option that shows up after boot. During System Check when earching for package databases,YaST2 is not able to find /var/lib/rpm/Filemd5s. After a while, a YaST2 box pops up and says that it Successfully rebuilt the package databaseïbut I get the same error when I run System Check again. I've chosen both Rebuild Package Database as well as Revert to Original Package Database (saved by YaST)In both cases, it saysat it was successful, but the same error occurs the next time I run System Check
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo the only experience I have with Linux is all from Ubuntu, and I just spontaneously decided that I needed a change...two days later my triple boot Macbook Pro got slimmed down to a dual boot OSX/OpenSUSE 11.2 machine. But there are some general problems, and I have absolutely no idea how to solve them. First, wireless isn't recognized at all...there isn't even a space for wireless connections. Second, I haven't been able to get compiz to work yet, and I can only suspect that the system doesn't recognize my video card, or the driver isn't installed. Yet again, no idea how to fix this.
