I am running Windows 7 inside Virtual Machine Manager - running on Cent OS 5.6. My problem is that the Windows 7 'Window', is only about half the size of the screen. Is there any to change the resolution of the OS running inside Virtual Machine Manager?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Puppy from a usb in Windows 7 using Virtual Box and I can't get the 1280 x 800 screen resolution to work. The probe doesn't recognize my monitor initially in the video setup. When I choose this screen resolution in the xorgwizard it ignores the resolution I select and uses 1600 x 1200. If I try to reduce the resolution in the resolution changer, it decreases the window size but the desktop stays at the same resolution effectively cutting off the majority of the desktop from view. I have been trying the intel, radeon, vesa, and vmware drivers but none of them seem to work. Do I need to install a special video driver? I am using a unibody macbook.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 3 boxes running opensuse-11.4 64 bit - Phenom-I 2.6 GHz, Intel Q9400 quad core 2.66 GHz and Intel SU7300 dual core 1.3 GHz (the last one is a laptop). When I run a KVM virtual machine and load it quite a lot all host OS freeze. Interestingly, the laptop works the longest (hours), while the fastest system with Q9400 freezes in max. 10 minutes. After a hard reboot there is nothing in /var/log/messages This bug is 100% reproducible. The guest OS is either RHEL or openSUSE. Is it a 11.4 bug or I am missing something? Have not tried the same hardware with RHEL-6.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to experiment with pacemaker, and for that I'd like to start kvm virtual machines with the snapshot option, so that as soon as I stop the vm, all changes are gone and I can start over. Since I couldn't figure out how to setup networking (vm - vm and vm - public) with a kvm commandline without disturbing the Network Manager, I used the Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) for this.
It works now, but I cant see how to use the snapshot option with the VMM. On the other hand, I cant see how I start the resulting vm from the commandline. When I look at the process list, I see the command with these network options:

I setup a private network from virtual machines and one of the machines is the DHCP server for the group. I want to specify a next-server for the DHCP server but I'm having trouble connecting to any of the machines that I lease IPs to. I'm just trying to do a simple ping/ssh to 10.0.0.252 (a machine with a lease) but it doesn't seem to respond. I'm assuming I need to be able to connect to my next-server but maybe I'm wrong.

This is my first posting as a Linux Newbie. I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 inside of a MS Virtual PC on my Vista machine. Everything seems to work beautifully and is stable. However, I would like to use a resolution higher than the current maximum of 800x600. I've poked around on the web and have tried various tips. I tried using the xrandr options which added a higher resolution mode, but when I would try to set the output to that resolution, I would get an error message to the effect that I could not exceed the current maximum of 800x600.
I tried to cobble parameter values together and create an xorg.conf file, but every iteration seems to produce a bunch of colorful vertical bars within my Virtual PC window, and I would have to blow away that virtual PC setup and rebuild it (along with reinstalling Ubuntu). As I said, 800x600 is not a show stopper, but I would like to take advantage of the real estate I have with my display. These "fifty-five year old" eyes could benefit from the larger size. FYI, I did take a stab at installing Virtual Box, but got the infamous "blue screen", so I would rather stick with what appears to be a stable virtual PC base.
With the default boot set to runlevel 5 you have a login screen that provides a menu to choose which desktop to run (KDE, Gnome, etc).
My machine is set to boot to runlevel 3. How can I switch the desktop from the command line before starting X?
Fedora has a nice little utility called switchdesk, but can't find anything like it for openSUSE 11.2.
I have set up a virtual machine under VMware Player 3.1.2 in Debian. Operating system of this virtual machine is a Windows Server 2003. I would like to periodically test this Windows Server 2003 installation for viruses. Obvious solution would be to install an AV software under this Windows Server 2003 installation. However, I was wondering, is this possible to use NOD32 for Linux or clamav in order to test this Windows Server 2003 installation for viruses? Is NOD32 for Linux able to detect viruses inside the .vmdk file?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can't change the resolution beyond 1024x768 on my Dell Latitude D600 running 11.2. It's got a Radeon Mobility 9000. The only fixes I've seen involve the Intel 915 chipset not this one. I've changed it in sax but even though it says it should be 1400x1050 it remains at 1024x768.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having some issues with a windows virtual machine. The system is Fedora 11 and the virtual machine is Windows 2008 Server. If I start the virtual machine from the virtual machine manager, it only has a single cpu despite my setting it to eight. If I start the machine from the command line, I can get four cpus but not eight. In both cases windows seem to display the eight cpus in the device manager (or whatever program it is). It has been suggest that windows was imaged on a four core machine before being loaded on the eight core machine and that something in windows is maxing at four cores. But that doesn't explain why the virtual machine manager can only start one cpu. I just played around on my home machine with a fedora 10 live cd and it recognized the two cores on that machine and used them from the virtual machine manager without problem. Also upped it to three cpus without problem.

I can remote in nicely when needed (try to do as much as possible via SSH) while not having to boot into and stay on Gnome on the server and run VNC.I noted that when I try to start the Virtual Machine Manager from an NX session, I get an error that VMM is "unable to open a connection to the libvirt management daemon". libvirtd is running, however. And, when I startx on the server and try there, VMM works fine.Is this an inherent problem with the use of VMM, or something correctable?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI used my fc13's "Virtual Machine Manager" to install a FC14 vm image from a new iso.After a week of 8 hour days I got fc14 installed, I think that the "minimal" install option was bad. Now it takes yum 15 minutes to get warmed up. and about an hour for 1 simple package.(It was going in the background while working on other stuff, causing the cpu fan to roar with the extra load)It would be easier to install Fedora on an abacus or perhaps water clock.
