I have a small audio problem: the Audio that exists from the back of my PC is working like a charm, but the one that cames out from the Frontal output doesn't work at all. It works well on OpenSuse 11.2, but it's not working on opensuse 11.3.

i just upgraded from Skype 2.0.0.72 to 2.1.047. Now my microphone isn't working anymore and i cannot select it in the skype options. From now on i can only select the PulseAudio server ..
So i have read some howtos for PulseAudio. They say i should starte PulseAudio Volume Control. ok.. Now i should go to the tab "Recording". This tab doesnt exist on my pc. I upgraded to the latest version of this volume control. It still doesnt exist.

For some reason on any application that uses sound, but doesn't allow me to specify the input/output audio devices I don't get anything. I want all audio to go to my USB Headset, and not the onboard soundcard. To start off with, here's alsamixer: Here's a screenshot from Mumble (voice chat) that shows that I've set the USB headset device in there, and it works 100% fine on Mumble.

As you can see from the alsa-base.conf above I've tried specifying snd_usb_audio as the default device, but it's not working.
When I installed my 64 bit system of Ubuntu 10.04 the sound worked very well and I were very happy. The problem started however when I installed Skype which uses pulseaudio. As soon as I start skype (or any other application that uses pulse, HoN for example) the applications sound output or input does not work at all. If I have pulseaudio started in some way, applications that I suppose do not use it like spotify or flash player stops to produce sounds. And when I type "pulseaudio" in the terminal it gives me this:

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 in a Dell XPS M1330 laptop with Intel gma X3100 integrated graphics. I occasionally use it for watching movies in an LCD TV, however when I connect it I can get it to output video fine, but audio is a no go, when I select hdmi audio in the sound options I get no sound.

When I try to disable the sound using the hardware switch, it does, but when I try to reenable it it doesn't work.. it shows the same image that I get when I try to disable the sound.. The only way to reactivate using switches is to press vol +.. I have the lastest kernel and the lastest BIOS upgrade.

I have checked alsamixer and pulseaudio nothing is muted, tried all sort of different combinations and pulseaudio actually sees that mplayer for example is playing music, or skype is in videocall and using the sound device, but nothing is coming out of the speakers.

I'm trying to plug my Cinemizer video goggles [URL] to my notebook. The resolution is 640x480 (yeah, I know) and I go from VGA to RCA to 3.5, which is needed by the device. From a cable oriented viewpoint this should work, but Fedora doesn't recognise the googles as a second monitor. how to enable vga output with a 640x480 resolution? This is extremely important for me since I need it for a personal project as well as for my work.

In the preferences I set the format to FLAC but when it's done and I open up the file manager, all the files are mp3. When I try to play the file with Songbird it tells me it can't read the codec. View 6 Replies View Relatedyou have an onboard soundcard that you have or may not have disabled in the BIOS, and you intend to use headphones with a USB sound card with headphone and microphone jacks (or no mic jack, it doesn't matter), but you notice that the headphones are detected. Alsamixer provides an interface to control the volume, etc etc, but still the headphones do not work..In my case, the module snd_hda_intel was being loaded for my onboard soundcard that I had disabled in the BIOS before booting the computer for the first time, and even though I tried to "activate" the USB headset in alsamixer, I still couldn't get the headset to work.
Solution as a trial: Open a terminal, and look to the code section for what you need to type.A big missing key to my puzzle is how to simply restart and/or reload a module so that it isn't necessary to unplug and plug back in the USB device. Can't I just re-discover the USB devices? (or other such hardware, such as a PCI card, or otherwise inaccessible component?)
I have a StarTech USB audio adapter which I have been unable to get output from in Suse. Pavucontrol allows me to adjust the output to this device, and even shows some signal when playing media. However, no output makes it to the headset/speaker jack of the USB device. There does not appear to be any issues with playing media to the internal sound card & speakers of the computer. I booted up a Live Ubuntu disk, the device was recognized, and output made it with no problem. This leads me to discount a hardware problem. I'm running Suse 11.4 on a Lenovo Thinkpad T420s.

I feel like I've looked everywhere on the internet for a solution to this and I just can't find one. It seems that everybody is able to see their nVidia audio device using aplay -l and then the solution goes from there.

But for some reason, when the laptop is on battery I don't get any sound and all, from the 3.5mm or the speakers.

When i open an audio file, it goes foreward with steps like 5 secondos and i can't listen nothing. Videos i can see, but with no audio, and ..... videos go at like 2x speed (and also here no audio). I tried booting with the 2.6.35.27 kernel, but doesn't change anything.

I tried booting to a bootable drive with Ubuntu 11.04, and no audio.
I've essentially tried everything in every other thread. I'm using alsa mixer, I've muted S/PDIF, my settings all have HDMI output selected.

The only way I can hear some sound is going into System> Preferences> Sound> Output and selecting "Internal analog stereo audio" which makes the sound hollow and not at all pleasant to listen to music. When I mark "RS880 audio device [Radeon HD 4200] Digital Stereo (HDMI)" the sound is not played.
