whenever i oped an audio program, it doesn't work. for example in ardour it says, "JACK is running as another user".I think this is the problem for most of them.I searched for JACK and found a folder and it says the user's name is root.

In the preferences I set the format to FLAC but when it's done and I open up the file manager, all the files are mp3. When I try to play the file with Songbird it tells me it can't read the codec. What's going on? I've extracted the music off of CDs before.

View 2 Replies View Relatedyou have an onboard soundcard that you have or may not have disabled in the BIOS, and you intend to use headphones with a USB sound card with headphone and microphone jacks (or no mic jack, it doesn't matter), but you notice that the headphones are detected. Alsamixer provides an interface to control the volume, etc etc, but still the headphones do not work..In my case, the module snd_hda_intel was being loaded for my onboard soundcard that I had disabled in the BIOS before booting the computer for the first time, and even though I tried to "activate" the USB headset in alsamixer, I still couldn't get the headset to work.
Solution as a trial: Open a terminal, and look to the code section for what you need to type.A big missing key to my puzzle is how to simply restart and/or reload a module so that it isn't necessary to unplug and plug back in the USB device. Can't I just re-discover the USB devices? (or other such hardware, such as a PCI card, or otherwise inaccessible component?)

When i open an audio file, it goes foreward with steps like 5 secondos and i can't listen nothing. Videos i can see, but with no audio, and ..... videos go at like 2x speed (and also here no audio). I tried booting with the 2.6.35.27 kernel, but doesn't change anything.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 10.10 with an EVGA nForce 730i Intel mobo with onboard HDMI. Video output works. Audio output does not. I'm trying to output both to a Samsung HDTV.
I tried booting to a bootable drive with Ubuntu 11.04, and no audio.
I've essentially tried everything in every other thread. I'm using alsa mixer, I've muted S/PDIF, my settings all have HDMI output selected.

I have Wine installed in ubuntu/Kubuntu Jaunty and I can play games like Roller Coaster Tycoon fine in it (it works great and has sound) but when I try to use my disk for Ear training (which is an .exe file) I can view/use the program perfectly except there is no sound, the disk works in the school computers so I know its not faulty, but the sound just doesn't work in Wine.
I changed the format in Wine to all the different Windows (Vista, XP, 2000, etc.) and the sound didn't work in them either, everything in Alsa mixer is turned up 100% and I've tested it with both my head phones and computer speakers, but theres never any sound.
I've seen this problem on dozens of different forums but I haven't found anybody with my specific problem or a solution that has worked. I have an nVidia GeForce 8400GS which I just installed in my Debian box and I can't get the HDMI audio to work. I feel like I've looked everywhere on the internet for a solution to this and I just can't find one. It seems that everybody is able to see their nVidia audio device using aplay -l and then the solution goes from there.

I recently installed Ubuntu on my HP Pavilion dv4-2012br and am really enjoying it, except that it is conflicting with my sound card. The only way I can hear some sound is going into System> Preferences> Sound> Output and selecting "Internal analog stereo audio" which makes the sound hollow and not at all pleasant to listen to music. When I mark "RS880 audio device [Radeon HD 4200] Digital Stereo (HDMI)" the sound is not played.

EX: dns2tcpc -z dns.domain.com -l 8888 208.67.222.222 Works, and I can use SSH to port 8888. However, if I try to background it, like: dns2tcpc -z dns.domain.com -l 8888 208.67.222.222 & Then trying to connect to SSH won't get any response
Now, I know this is a bug in dns2tcpc, and I really don't feel like compiling it or anything (I may have to), so is there any way to "trick" an application into thinking it's running in the foreground (like typing the command from the terminal window)? I had originally followed the advice at Mauriat Miranda's Fedora Nvidia Driver Install Guide [URL] for installing nvidia's display driver on my HP Pavilion system 64 bit running Fedora 11. I had used his first method which just installs the relevant kernel module kmod-nvidia from RPMFusion. He also suggested an alternate method: obtaining Nvidia's installer NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-185.18.36-pkg2.run and using that. I downloaded it from Nvidia, but I didn't run it.
I recently lost X. This had happened previously after a kernel upgrade, and I just used grub to boot an earlier kernel to recover X, and then installed the upgraded kernel module to fix the problem. But this time, being deeply involved in something else, I panicked slightly, and, using dumb terminal mode I ran the Nvidia installer. It asked me to make various choices and in response to my answers, it decided to compile a new kernel module. This recovered X, but I then compounded things by installing the updated kmod-nvidia.
I realized afterwards that using both methods might create some conflicts, but X seemed to run properly. (I can tell because graphics in the program Maple doesn't work properly with the default drivers provided by Fedora 11.) Since then, when I restart nvidia, I get.

I have an HP Pavilion dv5 and Opensuse 11 with dual boot (windows and linux).. When I try to disable the sound using the hardware switch, it does, but when I try to reenable it it doesn't work.. it shows the same image that I get when I try to disable the sound.. The only way to reactivate using switches is to press vol +.. I have the lastest kernel and the lastest BIOS upgrade.

I would like to know how to troubleshoot, and fix this problem if possible (even a workaround would be great).
I was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.
Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.
I'm using 'Adobe Flash plug-in 10.3.183.4ubuntu0.11.04.1', installed from the package repos on kubuntu, and since the last update, it has broken all flash functionality in both rekonq and firefox.I have tried removing and reinstalling the package multiple times, both with and without the browsers open. Can anyone suggest a way to restoring functionality?
