i was wondering if any of you have installed frostwire, because i managed to install frostwire from a fedora rpm package, it runs but doesn't connect to network, it says something like this "frostwire cannot find a network please check your firewall settings and restart again"
View 1 RepliesI am relatively new at Linux and am having some problems with an install of openSUSE 11.2. I installed 11.2 on my Thinkpad X31 dual boot with WinXP. It seems to work very well except the network. I looked up swerdna's instructions on setting network cards up. I used YaST to try and set the system up as described in swerdna's instructions. Everything looks fine my network card and wireless card show up in the overview settings screen and everything sets up fine. But when I exit YaST the network doest show up no icon in the system tray and it doesn't even try to connect.
I did go into hardware to see if it was identifying my hardware and my network card shows up as "Thinkpad R40" and the wireless shows up as Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b. As far as I know this is correct. I have tried three other distro's and this one has gotten the closest to working so far.
I installed a new 11.2 and now my huawei e1692 works (thanks to huawei e1692 don't work -

i'm using opensuse 11.3 and can't connect to the internet, my eth0 interface (which would be my modem i suppose) is found and when i "activate" it with ifup eth0, it gets stuck waiting for data (says so in ifstatus). If i try with knetworkmanager it is also stuck and doesn't connect to eth0. If i try to make it connect at boot, it doesn't work either.
I think the problem might be that in windows xp my modem has a "limited connection" but i can connect with my pppoe password anyway, but opensuse won't let me connect until it finds eth0 is working correctly which it never will because of how the internet company configures the modems i think. I don't know with which command i could "force" the pppoe connection even without a good connection to the modem, maybe that would work. But on the other hand, with other distros i can connect just fine so i don't know really.
I have x11 forwarding enabled in /etc/ssh/sshd_config on a suse 11.2 32 bit box running kde I can open x apps on a windows machine using xming and putty just fine, but when I boot the same machine into suse 11.2 64 bit using kde and try using konsole I get: cannot connect to x server
The command I'm using to log in is: ssh -X -l username host I doubt the problem is with the server I'm logging into or it wouldn't work in windows, not really sure what to look for as I've never had a problem using x11 forwarding from a linux client before only windows ones

Frostwire and Nicotine + they both have outdated RPM's for 10.x that dose not support 11.3. They have newer .deb files. What would I have to do to install a .deb file. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Broadcom 4312 wireless chip. I have use the STA drivers that Ubuntu recommends. I can connect quite easily just by clicking on the icon, so this is more than a niggle than a problem.
My network isn't protected as we live in the middle of nowhere (quite literally) and network theft isn't a problem. We also run a self-catering cottage, and let guests have free access to our network anyway, so it is easier for guests to access our network without me having to give them all the key. When I did use wpa, it would start itself up with the laptop, so I kind of know that this might be the cause. Is there any way I can fix it without encrypting the network?
recently I risked a look to the Linux world and I'm happy so far, but now I've got a Problem, I'm unable to solve by myself. I installed Mint (Julia) on my old Laptop to test Linux. The Laptop has a very old PCMCIA WLAN Card with a Realtek rtl8180 chipset. Everything seems to run perfectly so far with one exception: the WLAN doesn't find any Network to connect although the card and the driver seem to be installed correctly.

I have installed WvDial (apparently) but it has no icon or launcher to start it by default, how do i get it to run? I also need basic set up how to. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) and network manager doesn't seem to be able to use my modem to connect to the internet (set up wizard works, appears connected, but then I get page not found error). Hence I wish to use WvDial to try to connect instead.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi'm experiencing some weird behaviour: I have a server running ubuntu 10.04 and two Apple laptops in my home network. Sometimes after booting up the server doesn't connect to the wireless network, but instead "kills" the connection of the laptops. (The network then isn't available for about two minutes - it's showing but it can't connect) On the server the network interface is up, but not associated.
Sometimes the interface isn't configured properly (iwconfig isn't showing an entry) - but in this case the behaviour obviously isn't showing. some information about my system:
Ubuntu Version: Server 10.04x64
Wireless Card: Netgear WG311v3 with marvell chipset
Driver: ndiswrapper+mrv8335x64
This is on Lucid, using a Dell Mini. I installed the required packages for a USB tether to my iPhone. Network Manager recognized it immediately as wwan0, but it doesn't connect. Also, it never asks me for the password to connect to the Personal Hotspot (as it does when I can connect from Windows).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using a fully up to date openSUSE 11.3 and today, I decided to upgrade my KDE 4.4.4 to Factory. The update went without a hitch, everything continued to work, including all of the items in my workspace.So now I am running KDE 4.4.95 and it looks nice. I like the new System Settings where the advanced tab is gone and everything is presented in a single window.
The only snag I have hit so far, is that Knetworkmanager no longer displays the network that I am connected to when I right click its icon in the tray. The screenshot may make clear what I am talking about.I am currently connected via a wireless network, which nm-tool confirms. However, it is not shown in the Knetworkmanager menu.
After installing 11.4, I need to type in the command to update the firmware for a broadcom wifi adapter. Then I needed to reboot, twice, before the system knew to use the adapter (where the adapter wifi light goes from orange to blue).
Then I needed to add my wireless network and type in my key. But the key does not take. If I click on my wireless network icon, it just re-asks for the key and does not connect nor give any other message. Network icon continues to display no connection.
So I need to reboot again.
When the system starts again, the adapter is blue, I click on the icon for my wifi network and it connects without asking for my key and I can then set to start my wifi by default.
Now my wifi works fine.
I've got my Lenovo T60 laptop wireless running without too much trouble, the only problem is when i close my laptop lid and open it again the wirelessconnection is down and i simply cant click on the network icon in the notification area to re-connect as wlan0 is inactive. If i go to System>admin>network i cant activate the interface either as the 'active' button is greyed out, the only way to get the thing to come alive again (other than a full reboot) is to toggle the wireless switch on my laptop off and then back on.Not sure this should be required, i've got the interface configured to start automatically but it doesnt seem to care.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAll settings are correct as far as i can tell. The wep key works on all my windows boxes. When i have connect automatically enabled it never tries to connect. if I go to edit it it pops kde wallet up i put in credentials. wallet goes away then nothing happens. if i double click connection to my router also nothing happens. I have the wep key in there and i even made it visible to make sure.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed OpenSuSE 11.3. The only "extra" package I put in after the install was VirtualBox-ose. The firewall is disabled. I gave the machine a static IP address. I can get to the Internet from the machine. I enabled sshd to start on boot with "chkconfig sshd on" and also verified the service is running on the machine. I can ssh user@localhost from the machine as well.
When I try to connect to SSH from another machine, I get a connection refused. I verify that the firewall is down. I also try to get to VNC -- same problem: Connection refused. I ping the machine for fun. If I try to SSH again, it sometimes gives me a logon? I would check the server logs for the connection refused, but I wouldn't know where to look. I started in /var/log/messages, but nothing seemed to jump out there. I also find it strange because I can RDP to a windows guest running under VirtualBox. The Windows guest uses Bridged Network and DHCP.
I also find it interesting that I sometimes type a "ping google.com" from the 11.3 box and it will just hang - no output. Then I open firefox and get to the internet. All of a sudden, ping starts to give output. Could this be a neetwork card issue? A configuration issue? I don't know where to start.

Both are connected to an Internet box (hub), the OpenSuse one by RJ45 link and the Vista one by Wifi. I would like to share files between them with Samba but I do not succeed in... I have followed this note: How To Samba With openSUSE 11.2 and Windows. I do exactly what is written (except under YaST -> System Services (Runlevel), there is no smbfs service). I also added my user login typing ">smbpasswd -aen my_user_name" in a su terminal. Under YaST -> AppArmor configuration panel, I set nmbd and smbd to "Complain": now, on [URL]... smbd, nmbd and winbindd are running. But on Vista, the OpenSuse PC does not appear on the network.
