just installed openSuse on my desktop. Ever since I've been having problems with screensavers. When I open screensaver preferences, I can click on and see previews of all of the 2D screensavers, but the 3D screensavers just give me a black screen as a previews (even when I ask for a fullscreen preview). how-to fix this situation so that I can run 3D screensavers?
View 5 RepliesI'm running KDE, with 11.2 32-Bit. At first, my screen saver worked just fine, coming on after 130 min, being just long enough to watch a movie. Since changing the screen saver, but not the duration before activation my screen saver comes on every 20 min. I have tried changing and saving settings in YaST and going back to the original choice of screensaver, neither of which have worked.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI run a molecular biology lab and we like to run the "Molecule" GL screensaver in order to look cool (I know it doesn't actually save screens, and it wastes energy, but you know..). I'm about to install Opensuse 11.3 on all 24 of our laptops and I find that the number of GL screensavers installed as standard is greatly reduced from previous Opensuse releases. Any idea where I can get the "Molecule" and other screensavers?
I am running KDE and have the following relevant packages installed:

xscreensaver
xscreensaver-data
xscreensaver-data-extra
gnome-screensaver
gnome-screensaver-extra
This apparently gives me just 8 GL screensavers - there used to be a great many more?
I recently updated to OpenSUSE 11.3 with KDE 4.4.4 . I do not find the great series of screensavers which existed in previous versions. I look in sysemsettings, desktop, but there I find only two version of blank screen as screensaver and no way to install something else.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just noticed that my screensaver was not working in Fedora 14 x86_64 / Gnome. I searched in Yumex on "screensaver" and reinstalled all that were marked as installed, but no joy. Not only does the screensaver not come on (it is set to 30 minutes) but if I go into Preferences > Screensaver and click on one of the choices it does not display the selected screensaver in the preview window. That is, none of them display except Floating Feet and Floating Fedora Bubbles. What is going on is to discover where those two screensavers come from as opposed to the others. i.e., what packages are they from?

I just install rss-glx, - the really slick screensavers package, but there are no new screensavers being listed in the GNOME preferences panel in F13. How do I get these nice screensavers into the screensaver preferences?

Just for giggles, I booted a Kubuntu 11.04 CD, updated the sources.list, installed rss-glx and was able to use the rss-glx and other opengl screensavers. The reason I say opengl is because those are the ones that I use but no screensavers work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am unable to load the GUI in opensuse 11.1. When booting I get the normal opensuse loading screen but about half way through the screen goes black. If I hit alt-f1 I can see the start up info. The problems looks like when it tries to load gdm. It shows a couple of Warnings saying "GdmDisplay: display lasted .8135.. seconds. The findal warning says "GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maximum number of X display failures reached: check X server log for errors." I did do a couple of updates yesterday before shutting down but am not sure what they were.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed 11.2 from the live install, choosing Gnome. I ran the updates, then uninstalled several pieces of software that came pre-loaded. Then I noticed that the menu Gnome editor didn't work all of a sudden. I noticed that the "desktop background" right-click didn't bring up the appearance preferences dialog. Then I couldn't add anything to the panel. I never logged in as root or anything like this, or did anything other than install updates/uninstall a few applications (Evolution, etc) So, I rebooted.Then, instead of getting into Gnome, IceWM login screen loaded. Then IceWM. I guess this is a fail-safe in case the DE doesn't load
View 7 Replies View Related11.3 install with gnome desktop on old PC (it's not near me, can give spec later if needed). If one goes to start open office suite, writer, calc, etc. You get the open office splash screen with suse and the meter gets almost completely loaded (probable 99%) then it just stalls. Within a minute or two the screen disappears and no open office. Any ideas It was a fresh install and I haven't added anything other than multimedia packages and KDE base/apps. All other apps. load fine. Should I remove OOO and then add it again?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter installing QtCurve 1.8-41 from software.opensuse (I've been playing around with themes), whenever I try to boot my computer, it gets to stage 1 of loading (the less colorful splash screen), and about halfway through loading that, the screen goes black and a box in the top left corner says: "Could not start kdeinit4. Check your installation". I'm then taken to failsafe, where I login. When I try to run kdeinit4 from the command line, I get this error:
kdeinit 4: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libQtSvg.so.4: undefined symbol: _ZN14QObjectPrivate15checkWindowRoleEv.
I've tried uninstalling through zypper, but it can never find the package I specify. I'm on 11.3.
I have downloaded FireFox 4 RC (wow - fast!) and have a Flashplayer issue - the FarmVille game which uses the FlashPlayer does not load - the message was:

Please do so by clicking here I did just that - usually Adobe website will tell you if your FlashPlayer is already up to date for the browser you access with it, OR, give you the option to update (which I did in my case) - but after updating, it still does not bring FarmVille up, and I get the same message, click the Adobe Link, and offers me to update it again.
Anyone know a workaround - because the new Firefox has the speed like Google Chrome does, and FireFox has been my favorite for years, but I have resorted to using Google Chrome for the past several months due to its speed (I have only 1 MB DSL download speed, and it seems that FarmVille is better with such speed).

My Skype is not running at all. I have recently upgraded my Opensuse to version 11.3 and since the upgrade Skype will not run.
When running the skype from the command line the error message that I receive is "segmentation fault".
I have read another post on the internet that talks about Video drivers.
On the previous 11.2 opensuse that I was running I had the Nvidia Propriety drivers. Now I have the opensource versions.
Firefox won't load. On clicking the icon in the plasma box the bouncing loading icon appears but after about 30 secs it disappears and nothing further happens.
I am running Suse 11.1. Not sure of the original version of FF! I have tried deleting it in Yast and reinstalling the latest version with the same result. It certainly used to work but as the machine is primarily a mail server, FF is not used much.
I am loading a CD with a video on it. Nothing happens. The device notifier does not even do anything. I have tried several things with the device notifier or CD player but no luck at all.

To me those are 3 mysterious values, which most likely refer to some average CPU usage and this is all I know about it (not sure if it's true).What is the maximum value for this parameter (I guess the minimum is 0.00) and what does it mean ?

View 9 Replies View RelatedFollowing a zypper dup and turning my computer off for a few hours; when I rebooted, I got a message saying, "error: you need to load the kernel first press any key to continue . . . " And then it goes back to the grub menu for of the same if I select openSUSE 11.2.SystemrescueCD won't boot it. I've tried to "repair installed system" and "rescue" with my openSUSE 11.1 DVD -- it won't even acknowledge (as it were) the presence of 11.2 or the system on the other hard drive (though it does recognise the partitions).The PCLinuxOS 2009 KDE and GNOME live CDs will redo the MBR of installed systems (at least, as far I know, PCLinuxOS is one of systems). In my experience, the 11.2 live CD won't. I was hoping the 11.1 DVD would. What to do?

When then selected dvorak at session login, still wouldn't switch to dvorak. When checked loadkeys and other places in config files and system settings, all said dvorak -- but still could only get qwerty.
