OpenSUSE :: Firefox Won't Load / Solution For This?
Jul 20, 2010Firefox won't load. On clicking the icon in the plasma box the bouncing loading icon appears but after about 30 secs it disappears and nothing further happens.
I am running Suse 11.1. Not sure of the original version of FF! I have tried deleting it in Yast and reinstalling the latest version with the same result. It certainly used to work but as the machine is primarily a mail server, FF is not used much.
Software :: Firefox Just Won't Load On OpenSUSE 11.4
May 22, 2011Everything on this computer is running perfectly except Firefox. I have Chrome, Opera, Konqureor, all working; however Firefox just won't load. It was working fine after initial install (4.0b12), but after update to 4.0.1 from the update repository, it stopped working. Seeking into ~/.mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports and I can't make any sense of it. Loading firefox at the console imediately fails and returns no error, and as far as I can see, there is no verbose mode. Same happens with safe mode and any other argument flags allowed. I downgraded back to 4.0b12, didn't work. I downgraded to 3.6.x, didn't work. I updated to 5.0 beta nightly build, didn't work. Moved over to 4.0.1 32 bit version and it DID work. So I am fairly certain that it has to do with one of its many 64 bit library dependencies.

Aug 13, 2011I've just installed a fresh copy of 11.4 and the updates are driving me crazy. My internet connection is up, but the download stops and goes, and when I try using firefox, it takes a minute to even start to load any page. I have the system monitor up and it is telling me that the network is not receiving anything except for these bursts of data aprox. every 30 seconds.

OpenSUSE :: Unable To Get YAST To Load (Also Can't Change The Time) - 10.3
Mar 22, 2011I have just recently found I have a problem under SUSE 10.3. History, I had my PC, an IBM Power Centre box with 4g ram and 2 hard-drives (80gb and 1Tb) fail to reboot after a power drop. Got an error message about the 80gb H/D losing some information. I was able tofix the issues by using "fsck". The PC was able to restart after this, and seemed to be working well.
However in the last couple of days I noiticed that the time was incorrect, it seems the sync for time has switched to normal time too early. Right mouse click to adjust this would not bring up the "adjust time" window. ?Why, unknown. I then decided I would go through "YAST" to do my changes, but now I am unable to load "YAST". I can load it through a terminal window, but there must be some reason why it won't load the GUI? from the menu.? There could be other programs that are also not loading that I have not found.
Q- could something have been lost when I had the H/D reboot issue? And if so is there any way of restoring lost or coruputed OS files?
I have the 10.3 OS on DVD, which is how I installed it, and note that there is a recovey prompt, but need some advise on how to go about it. A total reinstall is not an option at this time until I can get a backup unit running.

Aug 20, 2011few days ago i installed the newest opensuse 11.4 32bit system and all is working really fine.except when starting apache or doing a php -v on the CLI i receive the following error ->

i know this bug has been reported earlier and i found quite a few results in google.i even found one result where the problem was fixed and updated in an additional opensuse repository -> Additional package repositories - openSUSE the repository with the fix is the following -> Index of /repositories/server:/php/openSUSE_11.4 so ... i added this repository via YAST to the repositories in my system without any problems but whenever i do a system update via YAST i don't receive new fixes and patches from the newly added repository!
if i directly browse to the /i586 folder in the repository i see all the PHP updates with version 5.3.7 and the latest updates were done 19 aug 2011 Index of /repositories/server:/php/openSUSE_11.4/i586 but my system still has PHP version 5.3.5 installed and somehow doesn't want to update from the newly added repository for the apache php modules so ... i just double checked and the repository is enabled in YAST ... but I still don't receive updates from there i would like to update to the new apache php modules, to get rid of that php '/usr/lib/php5/extensions/intl.so' warning, but somehow that doesn't seem to work
OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Re-load Grub Following Windows 7 SP1 Upgrade On Dual-Boot?
Apr 28, 2011A few days ago I went to perform the Service Pack 1 Upgrade for Win 7. This crashed out with an error. On researching the problem I found a solution to fix the problem by marking the Windows partition as active. I did this (via Computer Mgmt -> Disk Mgmt). This allowed the SP1 upgrade to work, however on reboot I got an error BOOTMGR missing. This I rather rashly resolved by using the Windows 7 install DVD in Recovery mode to reinstall the Windows Boot manager via bootrec /Fixboot I thought I would then be able to use the Opensuse 11.2 install disk to fix grub.
I use the Opensuse install disk and select Repair system -> Expert Mode -> Install New Boot Loader then select Other -> Reread Configuration from Disk. This adds Win 7 back into the grub menu. I then select OK and get the message "the bootloader was installed successfully". The problem then comes when I click my way through OK and Next to finish the install. At the end of the process I get the message "An error occurred during the installation" and I'm no further forward.
FYI the PC has a single SATA disk installed partitioned as follows:
dev/sda1 100Mb Win System Parkition
dev/sda2 Windows NTFS
dev/sda3 Windows FAT

Sep 18, 2010I have installed openSUSE 11.3 duel boot with Vista and had no problems as the wireless connection and everything is working including Firefox. Next day I find Firefox will not come up after clicking on the icon which is pretty useless when the web browser is not available. All other things come up OK.

Jul 17, 2010I actually have a problem with the keyboard config under Firefox.I'm unable to use 3rd level keyr under firefox, in any other apps the thrird level is working.The keayboard layout is set underkde with the setting toot.and 3rd level set as the "super key" (win key).the problem occur since I've upgrade from opensuse 11.2 to 11.3 with zypper dup (the upgrade as succes without any error) so with opensuse 11.3 KDE 4.4 firefox 3.6.6.With a similar setting under gentoo I don't have this problem nor with my own system base on LFS...
From there I suppose the problem come from a conflict between Suse keyboard handeling and firefox. However I don't know where to go from there.
SUSE / Novell :: Unable To Get PDF In Firefox In OpenSUSE
Jan 6, 2010I've had this issue since OpenSUSE 10.5 and Firefox 2.x. Now I'm on OpenSUSE 11.2 and Firefox 3.5.6. Here's the issue: I log into various sites to get my bank statements, utility bills, etc. They are all in PDF, and they open up acrobat reader and from there I save the bill as a permanent record. The first one I open opens fine. Subsequent sessions with subsequent providers (banks, whatever) opens up a new window as if to show me the PDF, but no PDF is there. Status on the window shows "done." No error messages. I have to shut firefox down, restart, log in again, and then it downloads fine. It's getting annoying.

Jul 25, 2011I just switched to OpenSUSE/KDE4 from Ubuntu/Gnome2. Overall, I am very pleased. However, I have an issue that I have been unable to resolve. That is, Firefox, Thunderbird and Konsole Terminal do not have maximize buttons in their titlebars and there is not any other way to maximize these windows. Also, if I right click on the task manager tab for those applications then the "Maximize" menu item in the context menu is grayed out so it is inaccessible too. The bottom line is that there is no way to maximize these windows. All other applications, such as Dolphin, Chromium, Konqurer, LibreOffice, etc. have maximize buttons and a "maximize" menu item in their task manager context menus. Then, why don't Firefox, Thunderbird and Konsole also have maximize buttons? I am using the Oxygen theme and have configured the buttons on the Oxygen theme to include the Maximize button.

Feb 10, 2010I can't stand it when my bookmarks (especially on the toolbar) have the default icon. Is there any way (whether via extension or otherwise) to load up the favicons for all bookmarks? The only extensions of the sort I've found let you manually add favicons but obviously that's a huge pain for several hundred bookmarks.

May 17, 2010Out of no where Firefox has just decided to not load web pages anymore. I've restarted my router, restarted my wifi card, restarted my computer, *completly* uninstalled Firefox then reinstalled it, still no luck at all. Anyone have any idea how to fix this? I'm stuck using Google Chrome now, I like it but I need the Add-Ons FireFox has (AdBlock Plus, Xmarks, DownThemAll, etc.)
Here are my specs:
Ubuntu 10.04 64bit
Acer Aspire 3680
Intel Celeron M 1.6GHz Single Core
1GiB RAM
40GiB Hard Drive
Basically all it does is sit there saying "Connecting to www.google.com..." for like 15seconds then gives me one of two pages, "The connection has timed out - The server at www.google.com is taking too long to respond." or "Unable to connect - Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.google.com."Google Chrome, Skype, Ubuntu's built in messenger, System Update, and so on connect just fine to the internet.
Ubuntu :: Load Any Webpages On Firefox In 10.10
Dec 5, 2010I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 x64bit and am having a problem with Firefox. I'm currently dual booting windows 7 and Ubuntu. My net works perfectly on Windows 7 and even on Ubuntu I was able to download a NVIDIA driver and 193MB worth of updates for Ubuntu. I just can't seem to load any webpages on Firefox. I have DHCP enabled but I also tried a static IP address but still had no success. I also tried adjusting my proxy settings in Firefox cycling through no proxy, Auto-detect proxy settings etc. but i still could not load any pages.
The error message is always "The connection has timed out. The server at ubuntu.com is taking too long to respond." I've tried other websites and can't load them. As a point of interest I was able to access my routers web config page.

Jun 10, 2009Just installed F11 and found out I cannot load an external security device in Firefox - the dialogue window does not work (Edit - Preferences - Advanced - Security Devices - Load, then the OK button does nothing!). This means you cannot use Firefox (i.e. cannot use F11 at all) if you need to log in through a web page or sign web transactions/documents using a smart card or any other crypto token.
I can't believe somebody released F11 with a browser that crippled! Moreover, this issue has been reported to Mozilla in April, but they did nothing until a second report in late May made them finally realize what they have done... and still Fedora team decided to go for it! how to fix this, or may be an idea when F11 will update Firefox (Mozilla has provided a quick fix for the problem)? I don't want to wait until 3.5 final release, which may be months ahead -- and I certainly don't want to recompile the whole Mozilla stuff by myself -- neither I want to mess up with a downgrade of the browser, or a second installation of a 3.0 version with different prefix.

Nov 14, 2010During downloads, the top command shows the Firefox process at 100% CPU. Yesterday I tried to download an .iso image. After a few hours the Firefox window would not refresh nor would it respond to input. I tried the wget command. It used negligible CPU time and completed in 28 minutes.
This problem is easy to reproduce because it happens every time I download a file in Firefox. It also happens when I use a fresh profile to run Firefox without any extensions or plugins.
This is Firefox 3.6.12 on Fedora 14.

Oct 23, 2010I have an odd problem loading certain webpages (not all) from the New York Times in Firefox.

the page will not load and I see the text "Waiting for graphics8.nytimes.com..." in the status bar.
I did a complete reinstallation of Firefox and it worked fine (yesterday). Today the problem is back again.
I tried the page on a friend's computer also running Firefox in Ubuntu and it worked fine.
I tried it in Windows Firefox and it worked fine.
I have the same add-ons/extensions in Windows as I have in Ubuntu and, in any case, I have removed them all once and tried the page with the same non-result. I also noted that the same thing happens if I try to load the page in Google Chrome in Ubuntu.

But when I run it, and set the Firefox port to:9900 it fails to load any website. The goal is to compress to the maximum the images, and other stuff that uses too much bandwich (like Opera Turbo). I really dont care if a picture is full of pixels, or not. I do not want to use Opera, just to enjoy a fast Internet. I will not install Midori, Iron, Chrome, eLink or Arora. I want to continue with my usual Firefox and opera. The advantage is that in Firefox, I have NoScript, and other several improvements/extensions, which I cant enjoy in Opera.
I think the fault is, to include four different parameters (Address,Port,NextProxy,NextPort) that are probably for the same thing. Also had thought that perhaps there is some way to apply the proxy system-wide, not only in the Firefox settings. Maybe by editing the configuration of Networkmanager?
